Day 37 | Appalachian Trail Thru Hike 2024 | 300 miles & the Cookie Lady!  

Little Bear impresses me more all the time. In my world there are not many 11 year olds that have such a genuine appreciation of nature and the beauty of the trail. Love watching her admire a view or discover a bunny. M.B. you are doing a superb job. I vote with the replies that say the metal is a boundary marker of some sort. Cheering you on.🎉😊

I remember stopping here on a chilly and raining morning last year on my through hike. It was great to get a fresh baked cookie, empty my trash, and get some good fresh water. Cookie Lady and her hubby were very nice. Def a high point that day for me.

I started watching you after your 13th day. I was somewhat skeptical after having hiked a lot myself. My husband and I used to hike on all of our vacations. We are not able to do as much anymore. He is 82 and has dementia and along with so many other things I have mourned the loss of those times. So now I hike vicariously through and Little Bear. Thanks for taking me along!

Cookie lady’s husband gave me a ride into town last year. They are true “Trail Angels”. Got more rocks to come getting to Erwin, but nothing y’all can’t handle. Y’all are fixing to hit cruise control

It never fails to amaze me how well these animals blend into their surroundings! When you first mentioned the bunny, I couldn't see him or her at all. Then you focused closer and still no bunny. Finally, when you were on high magnification, I saw the bunny. Happens with snakes too, which can be disconcerting. I once hiked with my brother in law in late fall, and he pointed at the base of a tree in the leaves and said, look, there's a copperhead! And I just couldn't see it, even with my face really close. I finally saw it but was spooked the rest of the day, worrying about stepping on copperheads!

Did Little Bear call her Grandpa, Papaw? That’s what my Grandchildren call me. Congratulations on reaching 300 miles! Gratitude is sooo important. Great job Mama Bear!👍🏼🙏🏼

MB, thank you so much for the tributes to all of your friends and family who are supporting y'all. Especially the one to your Dad. So glad you still have both of your parents to enjoy this with. My Daddy would have been so supportive of something like this. Once again, LB, you are becoming quite the actress and commentator! So fun to watch your personality really growing on this trail. You may be like that all the time at home but for us who are just getting to know the two of you through this journey, it is fun to see your expressive personality. I love rock scrambles but they DO slow down progress! Be safe out there and God bless both of you.

Congratulations on 300 miles. 🎉 I think you are a bit away from it, but I saw on Cspt Jack hikes that there’s a couple rat snakes residing in Baker Oven Knob Shelter. He slept on the picnic table. So as you plan ahead you may want to consider that info. It may not be relevant when you get there, but hope it’s helpful to know as you look ahead.

Y'all are about to enter one of the most beautiful sections of the trail with several Balds and stunning scenery. Personally one of my favorites and I have hiked it several times since my 2008 thru hike. Enjoy

Hi Bears, Congrats on reaching 300 miles. Can you believe you've walked that far? Did you know that the original Cookie Lady is further north. The lady herself died but the new owners of the property have contnued the tradition. You can even camp there and pick blueberries in season. A neat place. I believe the marker you asked about is a NGS/geological survey marker.

The pipe in the woods had a mark on the cap, best guess would be an old survey marker for someones property. Congrats on 300 miles.

Another great video. I section hiked that part, Allen Gap to Erwin, about a month ago. I missed out on the cookie lady as it was too early in the morning when we passed by. Maybe next time. Y’all are doing great and your videos make me smile every morning. Happy hiking. Stay safe and stay well.

Up on viking mtn there are logging access roads that are close by the trail. If you look on bing maps you will see the roads paralleling the AT to the north west side of the trail.

Woohoo 300 miles and the cookie lady all in the same day. Another vlogger named Sunny also pointed out the abandoned van. She walked up to it and it looked like someone may be living it!

Great views, it was all very foggy when I went thru there. Licklog Gap? Only about a mile more to Jerry Cabin shelter and water, plenty of tent sites. Keep on trucking, glad you got to see the views!

The metal pipe in the woods is either an old sewage clean out pipe OR where they would fill the oil tank. You will be rock rambling up by roan mountain and over by laurel falls by boots off hostel and detain a lake. In college buddies of mine and myself would go chill out in the catch basin pool at laurel falls in the mid 1989's.
