Hoka Speed Goats solved all my feet issues. Very wide toe box and great cushioning. So much pain hiking and walking until I finally spent the money to get them. I cannot have ANY pressure on my feet across my toes and arch. Please try them.
Congrats on the huge milestone! I’m adding the alpaca farm to my must-stay AT list for my thru hike next year 🤩 For your shoes - are you sizing up? I’ve increased a whole shoe size since increasing my trail running miles - it’s very normal for feet to “widen” as you put consistent miles on them. I know this video is pretty old, so hopefully you’ve worked out the shoes by now!
Awesome, congratulations on the 1/4 way mark. Hope you have gotten the shoe/feet situation solved. It seems everyone has battles with this issue. I know my feet changed size from backpacking. Glad your finding time to enjoy things on trail, to many people rush right by so many things. Enjoy your time on the trail it will go by quickly.😀
Don't know if it will help, but I reduced pressure on my lower foot in the past with a "lace lock" that let me keep the ankle tight and the toe relaxed. It's basically taking one of the spots where the laces cross across the arch and looping them over (like the start of the bow knot). That creates additional friction at that spot and lets you set the tension of the lower half less than that of the upper half. Ultimately, I've found shoes that fit better (or my feet have adjusted), but doing that was a foot saver for me early on. 🤷♂️
Congrats on 1/4 way, Rissa. I did my thru hike last year and used Altra Lone Peak All Weather Hikers (3 pair) the whole way. Loved them! If you liked that hostel, you’ll love The Notch Hostel in NH, and The Maine Roadhouse in Stratton, ME.
Congrats on making it 1/4th of the way. I'm sure switching back to the older shoes will be the right choice. Ohh and that hostel, looks like the nicest one so far.
Congratulations on your 1/4 way there!! Even with bad shoes. So image once you finally find the right fit how much quicker it will go. But not to quick. Enjoy every moment.
I love your narration! Definitely keep showing the good and bad (hopefully more good for you 😊). Thank you for sharing your adventure! A shoe company should be salivating to find your perfect shoe and sponsor you - could be a Cinderella campaign 😅.
Shoes definitely make a difference! The Altra's have a nice wide toe box. I use them, but I still have to put arch supports in. So, not perfect. I hope you find a shoe that works great! Congratulations on getting 1/4 of the trail done!!🎉
Congratulations on 1/4 way to Mama K! Hope your shoe situation is sorted out by now. Gorgeous trail today and Quarter Way Inn, coffee, hammock, a familiar face and fireflies all did you good.😊❤
Woohoo! One-quarter of the way! Congratulations! Loved the scenery leading up to the hostel. Loved the fireflies! I did see them in the video. No shoe expert here. All shoes are not made the same especially when it comes to sizes. Road Runner Sports has an excellent article about this titled, " No Standardization of Shoes Sizes between Brands". Good to know you have an option to revert back to your previous shoes. "There is no thing as a perfect shoe....." Keep trekking! You're doing great! PS HYOH
Congrats on 1/4! Shoe problem… have you tried different lacing patterns? Often when breaking in new shoes/boots, I’ll lace a skip through the 2nd and 3rd (maybe 4th) eyes to allow the materials more flex until broken in. I must compensate for the loosening by tighter and higher lacing at the top.
Congratulations on making it 1/4 of the way to Katahdin!! The Quarter Way Inn was a lovely place and looked so elegant for a hostel. I love her "watch the fireflies" dictum. I guess we can say that Michael is a friend indeed for a friend in need 🙂 Wish you could get fitted by an expert and get the shoe issue resolved. I guess we'll find out on another video. Thanks for sharing about churches' ministry on the Trail. God bless you as you continue your hike.
Goodness! What shoe issues you’ve had. I know there’s a long delay…Hope you’ve found your Cinderella slipper by now!!! And big congrats on 1/4!! When we were thru there, the owner of Quarter Way Inn said she put the sign there…that’s her section to maintain. We loved our stay there…and I have her necklace!
Awww, kitty 🤩.... dang girl, you just have not been having a lot of luck here lately 😓😓... hopefully, those shoes break in fast 😢.... im glad to see you ant ashamed of speaking about christ on here. That awsome 🤩 weall came from adam and eve. And we all sinned in them. For all have fallen short of the glory of god. And it's all about repeating and comeing to Jesus christ. But like you said a lot of churches are in it for the money. But I believe the churches that are helping out hikeer Genuinely care. Only because you mostly out in little towns. Away from big cities and people out in the rural parts. Are much nicer in general than your city people. I live near Charlotte nc and I hate it. But when I go to the mountains everyone is layed back and chill up there that's just my 2 cents.... congratulations on 1/4 the trail done 🤩... what what a hostel ❤
I am so glad that people are being the hands and feet of Jesus to show God's love to the hikers. It is so nice that you had a great place to relax for awhile after a painful day on the trail!
Every video is talking about your feet and how many different pairs of shoes have you tried? Either get a bigger size since your feet seem swell alot or find a doctor and find out what medical condition you have that cause your feet to do that. I work 10 hours a day on concrete and doctors have said get a half size bigger than what you normally wear. But the constant complaining about your feet really detracts from what you are doing. Michael also seems to be jumping through hoops for you instead of concentrating on his hike.
Why are you on this or any AT/PCT type channel? You don’t have the attitude of anyone that has done a week out on the trail, much less 1/4 of the AT. Truly, God bless and I hope your life and attitude gets better.
Have you tried Brooks Cascadia? They are lightweight, have a really wide toe box, a mild drop, and a rock plate. Might be worth a shot. Thanks for giving me a window into your AT journey. I'm enjoying your perspective and videos. 🥾🏞⛺️⛰️🌄
