I am so very happy that you got to do the Virginia Triple Crown, dragon, tooth, McAfee knob, and tinker cliff; mcAfee knob is often reported by those that have finished the entire Appalachian Trail as one of three of the best views on the entire trail with many saying that doing the Virginia trip count is probably the most recommended if you ever had to hike any part of the Appalachian Trail is to do that to get a sense of the trail and I think everything you all talked about the ups and downs the views and how you approached it pretty much supports that too. You have to be so proud of what you’ve accomplished you make it look simple and yet we know it’s not you’ve attacked it with such wonderful zeal and openness. You see the little things of nature the story about the little bear the fear to get the heck out of there all those things, but yet you’ll stop and look at a little flower or a rock formation or a group of ants carrying off their prey, you have made so many of my nights and mornings and enjoyable just to view and share with me everything that you have done. I can only thank you from the bottom of my heart so much and if I can this year, even though I turned 72 this past June 6, and I’m battling with some pain in my neck. I am going to try to do the triple Crown. I am so gonna miss your videos. I know the decision you made is the right decision for you, but I am so gonna miss seeing your faces here in your voices and just the exuberance of how to enjoy and live life and such a loving and caringmanner. Love and lots of hugs.❤😊
At 2:13 -- Go Birds! What lovely and kind people to host you guys. They are typical of the hiking community, I think, but that doesn't make them any less special. Edit: Looking forward to the next day's video to see if that whippoorwill let you get any sleep, lol.
🚶♀️🐻👟👟🚶♂️🐻🐈👟👟⛺🌞 that was very nice of Jack and Jen and River so awesome glad you got to see the little cub and not the mama I would have kept moving on to McAfee knob is just beautiful and that was very good picture of you two bears love and light to you both stay safe and happy hiking and goodnight Ellie 🐈😺
What a beautiful day, lovely weather, fabulous views, the Shutterfly book will be amazing! The bear cub, yikes! I picked up a Hiker at Winding Stair just after a half grown bear had come out of the woods and right down next to him. He grabbed a picture and the movement scared it back to the woods above. He was sitting down, so he was excited, ‘til he thought about the probable mama and sibling just up the hill. Your tiny cub would have come with a fiercer mama, I’m thinking. The wildlife you come across is so amazing, you guys are really quiet. 😅❤. Gail in Franklin, NC
Good night glad your bear experience was not as serious as it could have been. Love the videos. So happy you guys are headed to the Shenandoah section. I did it in September and it was great. Lots of views and great to hit the waysides as well.
Wow, what a lot in a video! Those boulders were really something! I kept showing my husband, saying, “Look at this! This is in Virginia!” (We live in Virginia. Had no idea)
I've loved watching your journey so far! Even my wife, who is not into backpacking whatsoever, and normally doesn't like to watch a lot of what I do, has come to look forward to your posts! We both have been taken in by how wholesome and genuine your videos are and give you both all of our best wishes and blessings 😊 I am very new to backpacking and just getting my feet wet on the Colorado Trail. I've been curious to know what pillow you two are using. It looks so comfortable!
I just loved everything about your hike today! It was beautiful! 😊. So glad you lost baby bear 🐻 before momma came around looking for her! Loved those baby deer! So sweet! So glad you are a triple crown winner! Congratulations 🎊🎈🎉. Rest up and hike on!! 🥾🇺🇸🏕️🧗♀️
You were blessed with beautiful weather for the remainder of the triple crown. 😊 The photos of you 2 on McAfee Knob were so lovely. I would have hustled ahead of the cub too. You definitely did the right thing. I remember encountering a mama moose here in Maine and oh boy. 😮 I put as many trees between her and I as I could and made my exit. Once again, solid day of hiking ladies. 💪 Rest well MB, LB, and EB. 🌲🏕🌲
I love your video sharing the birdsongs of my favorite birds. The wood thrush and the whippoorwill. Hopefully you will have a restful sleep with the lullaby in the calling.
First time I have written, although I enjoy following your progress most every day. Thank you for such interesting comments on your journey and your honest highs and lows. Especially loved the closeup of the ants moving the bee. And your account of how you felt as you hurried away from the cub…. wow! I realized that it made me anxious right along with you. As a retired university educator, I keep thinking about the amazing knowledge base that LB will take with her as she eventually moves through high school and college. Best wishes and prayers!
I wish at the end of your day you would have let us just listen to that whippoorwill. They are on the endangered list now. What a treat to get to hear one.❤❤❤❤
Awesome ending to a beautiful day! Perfect weather for finishing the triple crown of Virginia! You were definitely blessed by that couple and their precious pup. River didn't want you to leave. Great photos of McAfee Knob and Tinker cliffs. I glad that you didn't run into Mama Bear for real! I hope the baby cub reunited with its Mama. I'm glad that you didn't get confronted with her. I imagine it was scary in the moment. Stay safe
Another great day. You two are so funny and cute when you do your closing! McAfee Knob is iconic and the photos are lovely. Scary bear cub encounter! My thoughts are with you. Love and hugs. R ❤❤
Lovely photos of the two of you on top of McAfee Knob! How neat to take the time to film ‘the teamwork of the ants making the dream work’! What a beautiful area! Go big or go home! I love the whippoorwill calling in the background at your wrap up! Great video! You guys are rocking it!!!!!!!
Sounds like it was a great day! Tinker Cliffs and McAfee Knob looked beautiful! Glad you had nice weather to enjoy the views! Oh my gosh, your baby cub experience seemed like a similar situation my husband and I had a few years ago on a day hike! I can see how it can be a character builder and a highlight at the same time!
Those pictures are amazing!!! I’m so glad you didn’t see the mama bear! I would have been terrified too🥹 you have really been blessed with awesome weather for the triple crown! Those views are so amazing 😍😍 I loved hearing the Whippoorwill 🥰🥰 Enjoy your zero💕💕💕💕
Good morning .. great day with memorable experiences.... "Hey Little Bear , Meet Baby Bear" .... ... If humans could work together like that group of ants ,, miracles could be accomplished.... Stay Safe and God Bless...
Hi Guys, Day 74 was fantastic. Loved the views at the triple crown locations. Exciting that you were able to be there. McAfee Knob was beautiful. We are loyal followers of your daily podcast and are sooo appreciative that you share your adventures with us. I'd like to know more about what you do as a life coach. I think some us might need your help. Blessings and Safe travels on day 75!!
Such awesome hosts. The memories the two of you will have forever of McAfee and those photos priceless. Great views and miles.Thank you for sharing your hike.🌲👏
We truly enjoyed your company and absolutely loved spending time with you both. River sends hugs and tail wags! Your Mcafee day looked AMAZING!!! Cherish those beautiful pics of Mcafee❤. Jake and River and I saw what we believe was a Momma bear the same distance from the main road last week. Maybe your baby cub's momma! Her behavior suggested she had a cub nearby.
What a day is right! You got the day every AT hiker dreams about for this section. I like LB saying she's not afraid of heights. She's just afraid of falling of the mountain. Exactly my thoughts too!
Great pictures of Mcafee knob and tinker! You both look great 😊 I’m glad there was no issues with the bear! When we were there someone lost a backpack to a bear at Catawa shelter ( I think that’s the name) just before getting to the knob! Glad 🙏🏼 you’re good!
Loved watching the ants, living their best life!!! What a nice reminder that as we go about our lives, there are so many other creatures going about theirs that we aren't even aware of! What a wonderful world!
What an exciting day...McAfee Knob and Tinker Cliffs...not to forget the little cub!! That Whippoorwill would drive me crazy at night. Happy Trails...Winkle
Oh my goodness the photo on the ledge is amazing! More fabulous views. Momma bear, little bear and now baby bear. What a treat, glad u didn't get to see momma. Safe travels 💗
Not sure if they are considered endangered yet or just in decline, but that was a whippoorwill chirping away at your campsite. Don't hear them very often down here anymore.
What a GREAT day!! Little bear met baby bear. Plus 2 iconic spots on the AT. You 2 are true thru hikers now taking those elevations in stride . Love the whipperwill at the end. Too funny, Ellie hiding in the background on your closeout. I had to go back & watch it again. Yep she is there!! Thanks again for sharing your journey. Happy Hiking!!😊
Good video, with lots of beautiful views from McAfee Knob, and some pretty mountain flowers 🎉, and a baby bear and some deers and baby deer, so let's keep on hiking 😊😊
I've seen and learned things about the AT I have never known. It truly is incredible! And I appreciate both of you sooo much 😊 Super job!! Lovely place to be
I can clearly remember spending a sleepless night in the woods waiting patiently for the whippoorwill to hush. It seemed like it would never happened. I hope you both got some good rest.
I wonder if the cub was orphaned. Are you able to contact the wildlife department/park ranger in the area to inform them there is a potential orphaned cub? Love your videos! Congratulations on your journey!
You had such amazingly gorgeous weather for the triple crown! Absolutely stunning views from up there. I can't wait to get to see them for myself 😊 I hope the baby bear's mama found him soon. They are so so cute, you just want to hug them, but mama bears can be scary for sure! 🐻 Bears are my favourite animals, after my dog of course 😁 Hike on bears, you're doing great! 🌞
Beautiful hike and so many interactions with Nature! 16.4 miles! Wow! The vistas were amazing! The ending of your video, that beautiful bird singing repeatedly was glorious. Elle hiding in the corner but Little Bear says, Elle make your presence known! 🤣. Forever onward, Bears!🧸🐻🦌🐜🐜🌻🌼🌺🌅🥾⛰️👍
Thought of Little Bear this morning when I was fueling my lawn mower and there was a snail on my gas can. She would have spotted it right away!! 😂 Hike On and be safe!!
When I hiked the AT in 2021, I was coming into Daleville and heard a rustling in the bushes to my right. I stopped and the rustling stopped. I started walking and the rustling began again. Then a tiny bear the size of a housecat came waddling across the trail. I booked it so fast. Never saw mom. I was so freaked out and didn't stop "moving with a purpose" for a full mile. It's wild that the same thing happened to you in the same stretch!! Those baby bears must be real curious!!
Hey you two, keep an eye out for Kristian Morgan ( Captain) today June 6th. He is northbound attempting a record AT through. He is averaging 55 miles per day. Wish him on!!!
What a wonderful day you ha 35:19 d. A visit with friends, beautiful weather, amazing views & a brief although scary visit with a wild bear cub! I’m sure that would have been the highlight & character builder of my day had I been in your shoes!😄 Glad you both used your heads & got a move on up that trail! I’m pretty sure certain that its mother wouldn’t have been pleased about its interest in humans! Happy Hiking!
What a beautiful day you two had today and being able to hike in beautiful weather and get the triple crown done all in one day that's really awesome. Wishing you two a blessed beautiful day tomorrow hiking in to Dalesvile and getting some rest and relaxing. 😊😊😊
What an exciting day from beginning to end! The iconic McAfee knob picture! 🙂 Awesome picture of LB on the rock silhouetted against the sunset. Baby bear incident was so scary. Hope that's the last one you see. G'nite, Elle, you rascal!! Prayers for your continued safety.
Another awesome video! A tramily... Mamma Bear, Little Bear, and Baby Bear😂. It's very rare to see a cub on trail. Mom might have been up in a tree. I saw a mom and two cubs running away from us hikers several years ago near Old Orchard Shelter. Those ants are amazing. Imagine 20 people carrying a bus. People could learn a lot from ants. Congratulations on the triple crown. Beautiful videos and stills. May God continue to keep and bless you both!
Congratulations on completing the Virginia Triple Crown! So glad you had such a wonderful, beautiful day! Have you run into any problems yet with biting insects or poison ivy, oak, or sumac? Sure hope not. Take care and see you tomorrow! 💞🐻🐻
So awesome you met Sassafras and Teacup we hiked with them last year . I called them Bear chaser , because they chased a bear away from our our food bags. I always enjoy your videos.
