Hmm that's interesting. I always heard he was pulled over for speeding on his horse in Washington during his presidency... that would've been from 1869 - 1877. But maybe that was a different incident.
Just wondering is your pack a Gossamer Gear pack. The reason I ask is I have heard of that issue with their packs happening, the chest strap buckle breaking. Getting closer to the end. Enjoy
I'm glad you were able to eventually get a ride to and from town! Cool that the people who gave you a ride back watch AT hikers. You had some fairly hard hiking this day. But -- aren't you getting tired of ramens by now? Hmm, 1666. Are you sure you don't mean 1866? Hopefully you are not going backwards! For 1866, I liked the Civil Rights Act, but someone else mentioned it first. So I'll say that on June 14th in 1866, the Austro-Prussian War ("Seven Weeks War") began when the Austrians and most of the medium-size German states declared war on Prussia.
1866: The US Congress overwhelmingly passes the Civil Rights Act. President Johnson initially vetoed the bill, but Congress overrides the veto on April 9.
