The mermaid journal is beautiful, and the spine is great. Nathalie from Linedotarrow does beads and buttons on her elastic spines which are very effective. X

Yes, in California we covered our textbooks with paper cut from grocery store heavy duty brown bags. Apparently that is where my love of paper crafting started. This project really didn't interest me to start because I don't really care about mermaid paper. I watched because I think you are incredibly talented and you always make me laugh. ("Give me glue and tweezers and I can entertain you for hours.") By the time the journal was being finished I felt myself wanting to go find the paper! Now I love the mermaids. Great fun watching you create Margreth!

In the USA we covered our books as well. I loved making my cover with paper bags so I could write and draw on them. Sadly I dont think they do anymore; at least not where I taught.
Definitely not my style of papers, but it’s very nicely made and very cute for a mermaid fan. My daughter would like it. 🥰 I’m not a frilly person, but I have to say, every time you put beads on something I think…what can I put beads on?? 🤣 I love the sound they make. We covered our books as well here in the US. We used paper grocery bags and folded them to fit. 👍🏻
Try cutting your corners in a curve about 1/8" away from corner. If you are going to cut it take those pieces and glue them into each corner and then glue sides and ends down. Even if you have a gap it won't be noticed. Use cut off corner same place it's cut from.
