Love your work. You shoot very well . I weigh bullets and have done for a few years and am confident its worth my while but about to add rim thickness sorting as well. I was very impressed with the low speed variation on that ammo being very consistent. I don't have a chronograph so am always interested to see the different results you get with various ammo that I learn from and appreciate you going to the trouble of sharing it with us . I have found Lapua to be the best for the last 3 match rifles I have shot but with my latest custom build I will try the various offerings from Eley again. I think for the minor difference between the 12 months cards it might well be a different lost of ammo and the bit of wind variation and no sleep to be lost there. KEEP AT IT and sharing.
I did not think about that. I guess I was looking at the Standard Deviation thinking 7 was good and I can get great groups with ammo that had a SD of 7. I’ll have to pay attention to the velocity. Interesting enough that I forgot to mention in the video my smallest .21” group was unsorted.
I believe lot testing and finding the right ammo for your rifle is more important than weighing, measuring and sorting. The chrono helps verify the consistency of the ammo, then put it away while you shoot. The trigger upgrade is important. I just installed one and it improved my groups tremendously. Thanks Eric. I am about to find out how important ammo sorting is. The ammo I have been shooting and competing with is about to run out. I looked at my results of my lot testing and bought what I thought was the next best lot. We’ll see how I do in the next month or so. Regarding Triggers I 100% agree, With that said I had a competitor who replace a tigger in a Tikka with a Bix’n Andy and it ended up hurting his scores, He put the stock trigger back and his scores went back up. That was a first, we are not sure what to think of that.
Looks like you may have been holding the rifle too tight. I went to free recoil.. still very good shooting with mid grade ammo. I'd like to see you do one with the CenterX ammo your rifle likes.
Richard it’s been a while. As I recall something did not seem quite right with my hold. I was thinking the same regarding Center X. Because you asked I will believer.
Man, inconsistent wind on a 40gr pill, leaving the barrel at just over 1000fps, can do funny things. I'm with you, I'd rather have a super consistent wind rather than an imperceivable wind. If you take a spotting scope on a day lacking perceptible wind and roll your parallax in and out, you'll see the mirage do all sorts of crazy things. 40 grains subsonic is affected by alot. On those days, get a 1-2 inch steel circle target and just have fun...paper can be frustrating at times. I have 2 CZ457's one chassis model and the newest match model with the Manners stock, they both do the same thing...some days are great, some are not. Sorry this is so long, but one more point. I sorted rimfire for awhile by rim thickness, and then looked at them through a microscope. Some rims are concave, convex, and some are flat. I came to the conclusion that rim thickness is hard to determine, and weight sorting is the only thing that seemed sensible. Anyhow, good shooting to ya!
