Day in London Riding the Class 455/8 EMUs

With the Southern Class 455/8 EMUs coming to a end in May, SimOnTrains spend a day in London riding as many Class 455/8 EMUs as he could!
Starting at London Victoria travelled to different locations on the Southern Rail Network to try and ride on 28 Class 455s which were in service on that day... However does this go to plan? Well there is no plan of such than riding trains and only on a Class 455 ride

Sometimes the best plans is no plan at all and this is awesome! Damn Buses get lost so Cyber can film! You managed to get 24/28 which is still a goose result! This wasn't the final time, 13th May 2022 I did managed to get a final ride between Norwood Junction and East Croydon. ended my ride on 455805

Great video Simon. I managed to get on 2 Class 455s when I went to Epsom a week ago. I got on 823 to Sutton from Epsom and then 842 to Victoria. It was nice to get one last ride before their withdrawal

I think alot of the train lovers around the UK will be moved by the loss of this soldier of a unit!! As a South londoner this is definitely within alot of our childhood memories whether your 40 now or 23 (like myself) such an iconic train.

Excellent video, Cyber! Great intro even if you did get videobombed by some buses and really well filmed and edited throughout. I wonder how many of the train classes introduced in the last decade will last for 40 years like the 455/8s did?

Your final 2 sets were probably also on London Bridge- Beckenham Junction runs as that runs 3 diagrams all of which used to be 455s

brilliant i will certanly miss the Southern class 455s ive rode them on some routes around london over the years and even tho i havent been filming trains for very long i enjoyed filming some at Balham Peckham Rye Wandsworth Common and Wandsworth common park this year but seriously they are good units and its going to be weird not seeing them when i next do South London within the next few months anyway keep up the awesome work

I've noticed alot of drivers actually put them into full throttle this week with the last uses. Maybe it's just me noticing or perhaps they know and wanted to use the train to it's max potential without worry of maintainence costs?

Excellent video Simon. I reckon it's one of your best; interesting with lots of varied locations. Good to see Waddon, as I know that station quite well. You could've caught a tram, rather walk from East to West Croydon. though. Finally, did you actually travel in each of the 24 units you saw?

I was thinking about catching the train but when I left the station it was a six minute wait so just decided to walk it instead. Honestly I may had done since there was quite a fair bit of repeat units I saw.

Are they getting scrapped or sent elsewhere? Are the trains old Connex rolling stock? I thought they were uncomfortable as there was no air-con in summer.

Yes all 46 units will be sent for scrapped as far as i know, these units date back to the Newtork SouthEast era of the 80s
