Hi Phil! I‘m a PsyD in clinical psychology too and currently also work at a Neuropsychological Practice for diagnostic practicum! My mentor recommended to really focus on the CCE process and trying to stick to the rules right from the beginning so we internalize them (following the manual’s instructions verbatim, knowing which tests we need to administer etc). Really enjoy your channel, thank you so much! 😊

If you don't mind me asking, what's something you have found challenging so far with neuropsychology?
@philsguidetopsyd

Maybe just report writing? It takes some practice articulating neuropsych terms in a report but also explaining it in simple terms to a client/patient

Thank you for the video Phil! Do you use neuroimaging in your program? And how much of neuropsychology is neuroimaging nowadays? Thank you!
@philsguidetopsyd
@philsguidetopsyd Год назад
Hello! Great question, neuroimaging not as much for me, but that's mostly because I was in a private practice. I believe neuropsychologists who work in academic medical centers, hospitals, etc. might work with more of the neuroimaging although I would say it's a small part. Most neuropsychologists just focus on testing, so giving tests to diagnose adhd, dyslexia, autism, dementia, and that sort of thing. Neurologists or physicians may do more of the neuroimaging and but a neuropsychologist may work closely with a physician or neurologist to determine treatment for a patients while evaluating findings from neuroimaging with a physician. Hope that helps!

Hey Phil, are you using q interactive? You didn’t mention scoring so I assume it’s done automatically online? Also could you provide insight on how often you use Pearson materials vs other companies if at all? My practicum uses like 90% Pearson.
@philsguidetopsyd
@philsguidetopsyd Год назад
Hey great question! a good number of assessments are actually scored manually like the WAIS, MASC/BASC, and other instruments but we do def use q interactive for many of the self-reports too. It's probably about 50/50 manual/automatic. and as for pearson materials, yeah I'd agree for us we use a good amount of pearson materials, the dementia instruments maybe not as much from pearson but similar for you 90% Pearson most likely.

Hello Phil.. I want to ask tat in Neuropsychology field does it include brain radiology..like neuroimaging and analysing them and based on that giving therapy and conducting tests...is it the job of neuropsychologist is like that?
@philsguidetopsyd
@philsguidetopsyd Год назад
HI, great question. Not necessarily, the field of neuroimaging is more common for neurologists. Neuropsychologists give tests, assessments, and recommend either therapy or other forms of treatment. Hope that helps!

And can you give some opinion on what I can do after MSc Neuropsychology like without doing the psyD..is it possible that I can work in hospital after doing MSC
@philsguidetopsyd
@philsguidetopsyd Год назад
Great question, depending on where you live has the biggest restrictions. In the U.S. a masters is not enough to work independently so students have to work under the license of a mental health professional.
@elijahbyrd68
@elijahbyrd68 Год назад
What if your PsyD or Ph.D doesn’t have neuropsychology do you need to get a certification or take a couple extra classes?
@philsguidetopsyd
@philsguidetopsyd Год назад
Good question, some people just graduate with whatever degree they have in clinical psych phd/psyd and then once they are working obtain neuropsychology experience through work, training, supervision, and clinical cases. Once they have enough experience they can start to look at board certification in their respective state. So in other words even if you don't go directly into a neuropsychology program you can still be a neuropsychologist after you've graduated. There are post docs and clinical hospitals available that offer neuropsych experiences once you a licensed psychologist. It just takes a little bit more work/time to get that neuropsychology specialty but it's doable.

Hello! I'm a freshman in college, but I'm interested in becoming a neuroscience and psych major to pursue Neuropsychology. However, could I still get into medical school (granted, if I have a high GPA and am a good student) if I earn a BA in psychology and a BA in neuroscience? Or should I purse a BS in both of the majors? Thanks!
@philsguidetopsyd
@philsguidetopsyd 5 месяцев назад
Great questions! It really just depends on your goals! It might be helpful to have conversation with a medical doctor about what to major in. Typically clinical psychology programs in the U.S. take all sorts of majors so it depends on the program/student. Best of luck!

Hi Phil, I am bit confused on what path to take I am mostly interested in studying brain functioning, brain abnormalities and what causes them, how can we treat them. Was thinking clinical psychologist, psychiatrist? What’s your opinion
@philsguidetopsyd
@philsguidetopsyd 10 месяцев назад
Good question. If you want to do therapy/assessment of neurological disorders clinical psychology is a good choice. Psychiatrists mainly deal with medication. One option you could look into is being a neuroscientist or neurology which both also deal with the study of the brain and brain abnormalities while also discovering how to treat them. Hope that’s helpful info, best of luck

hi im interested in doing neuropsychology and came across your video which i find very insightful! i just finished my undergrad psychology degree and looking to do a masters. i’ve not seen many neuropsych masters but have seen cognitive/clinical neuroscience MSc’s which seem interesting, would you say these two masters would be good for neuropsych? or would a masters focused on neuropsychology be better?
@philsguidetopsyd
@philsguidetopsyd 27 дней назад
Great questions. Depending on what country you're looking for schools, in general in the U.S. there aren't really any neuropsychology masters, since a neuropsychologist needs a PhD/PsyD to practice independently, so many students go into a PhD/PsyD clinical psychology program with a neuropsych focus or track. In other countries, they may have a neuropsych masters, which dictates what the person can do, so depending on what you'd like your ideal career to look like either the cognitive/clinical neuroscience or the masters in neuropsychology may be best fitting for you. Shadowing professionals in the field or doing internships may help narrow down the choice. Best of luck!

Hey Phil , I am confused about my field , actually my Interest is basically to know How Minds Works in both ways • Biologically • Psychologically So, which Field is better for me Neuroscience or neuropshycology ==== i think if I choose Neuroscience It's Full of Biology { Is I am Right } # love From India ❤️💜

Hello! Thanks for the support. Yes, neuroscience courses are full of chemistry, biology, psychology and physiology. Both fields deal with explaining how the mind works. What often helps is working backwards and knowing what you want to do for a career and maybe shadowing a neuroscientist or neuropsychologist can help you determine what to focus on. Hope that helps!

@philsguidetopsyd

I'm not sure about other countries, but in the U.S. there's not really a masters in neuropsychology, because to be independent you need a phd in clinical psychology first then there's specialty after that.
