This documentary will take you on a journey through a police officer's day. From beginning to end, you will find out what it is like to be John R. Holmes as a cop and as a person.
I would like to give special thanks to the Bloomington Police Department for the permission to shoot this documentary.

Silly comments aside, this was a very well done short documentary of a Law Enforcement Officers day. It showed not only a minor infraction traffic stop, but also a incident where the officer had to react fast to a situation. Very Very Well Done.

***** You're most welcome. We are known to be fairly (or very) silent up here; an entire coffee break of 15 min. at a workplace might consist of a couple words or sentences and then silence whilst everyone's enjoying coffee and a cinnamon bun. That's part of our culture up here; hanging out in silence is socially accepted here.

This was comforting to watch. I wasn't sure about my future, and I just applied for non-sworn peace officer training with the academy. I am more than qualified for other county and city jobs, but to my dismay, no luck. I am tired of staffing agencies who have no intention of getting you hired permanently, and seems like this is the only job where I can make a sufficient living for myself to live in the world, while also taking pride in knowing that my life would be with purpose for the sake of good.

Alcohol and opiates in general, then next comes meth then the heroin so yeah, guess you are right. Cannabis will be everyones favorite choice, maybe not using as much as a pot head but they would drink less on 1 joint or bong a week. But once all those pain killer popper switch to heroin or use it to get opiate fix then that demographic has shifted, even if they used heroin once or twice.

my advice would be to go into the military for military police which is open for women and be a k-9 handler and get the experience so when you get out you can be fast tracked past other officers who haven't done it yet plus the military will pay for your college it will be tough work but very doable best of luck.

Well whether or not you got into your local pd idk, but I'll answer your questions 1. Yeah, that is kinda hard. If you can my personal suggestion is do running/jogging/biking daily when you can before work. 2. With the majority of agencies it would be after a 3 month (8-12 week) FTO period. 3. Depends on department, but usually 2-3 years as a patrol officer.

I am from the other side of the ocean, in the UK, and hope to make it in to the Emergency services one day, this video was pretty interesting, since in my job, I am a Security Officer, and the morning part is pretty similar, except the rest of my day is not nearly as exciting, as what I imagine being a Police Officer would be like, and we don't have the PPE that Security in the US would get either unfortunately, anyway keep up the good work out there, Id help an officer in need any day.

My life was mess as a cop. Family time was tough from day one academy to my 5 years on the force. I lost weight and gained it on my belly. I was working nights which made it harder. I felt dirty because of the people I had to deal with. Listen Folks in the force meant you’re going to touch people you’re going to touch things that I never meant to be touched so don’t think that your hands are going to stay clean while on duty. I had a kid that wanted to be a police officer and he said that he could eat his snacks all day in the car. Let me tell you something there is no sanitization that will sanitize the things you will touch while on patrol. Law-enforcement is not for everyone and yes sometimes it’s fun But that’s only if your reserve officer that works here and there

I would like to know more about life outside of the work, I'm only 16 now and I have a few career ideas, I definitely would like to be a Police officer but first I would just like to know how it has effected your life outside of work? has it made your friends kinda run off a little? (If you had any bad friends through high school or something) im not one of those kids who thinks being an officer is about police chases and shooting bad guys or any stereo typical teen/kid thought like that, but I am very interested in being of help to people, I've always seen the ways most look and think of officers and I would love to be called "a cool cop" I just know that since I got my license and every time I see an officer I immediately get nervous, I just would hate to screw up in general but In front of a cop would be a lot worse, I have been pulled over once for not having a front license plate, and it went smoothly, but besides all of that, I just wanna know how much different to people treat you knowing your an officer? How to people treat you while on duty?

miloman812 I have been a police officer for 2 years now, in high school everyone knew i wanted to be a police officer, yeah it pushed a few friends away. But you know as well as i do, the true ones stay. Even though iv lost a few friends iv gained so many through the department i work for. And these men and woman iv met have pretty much become family to me. not only have i made friends in this department law enforcement has a natural bond with other agencies i can walk up to another officer and have a normal conversation as if i known them for years its just this line of work and the people in it are all family regardless of race/gender/ or the agency you work for. Has this changed my life? Not at all you need to know what kind of work you're getting yourself into. Growing up at the age of 16 I found a department i liked which was my local sheriffs office so i went in and asked if i could do a ride along which sits you inside of a police officer and you can spend the day with him. (Obviously with your parents consent you also need to sign a few papers) doing this completely let me know what i was getting into! At first i was riding 4 hours with the guys than 6 than 12. It prepped me so much and helped me get to know the guys before i applied with them (Honestly helped me get on with the department a lot). How people treat me? Always know society will always hold you to a higher standards than anyone else, just because you wear a uniform, badge and a gun. Alot of my friends started calling me sir even though im younger than some of them (Friends iv had before the department). As a rookie starting i wanted to let everyone know i was a cop, show off my badge and gun. But as months, years went i noticed police aren't looked at as hero's anymore and become targets. Arresting so many people you will be recognized by people you don't want to be seen by. Often I have my family walk 20 ft in front of me just so if i am seen bad people don't know that is my family. And be ready for media to slander you and make you out to be something your not. All cops shouldn't have to suffer just because of a few bad cops. When a teacher rapes a kid. Only that teacher is bad. And not all of them. It sucks. But being in this job i honestly cannot see my self doing anything else! Iv had many great times and saving someones life and being recognized for it and the praise is just a feeling i cannot describe. Just know to balance your personal life with your job and you will be fine. Just make sure to keep your family and friends before the job. (Unless money via security!) Hehe. If you're going into this job expecting alot of money, you will be disappointed but you can make alot if you stick around. Good luck my friend!

@BlueinanotherLanguage

Yeah pretty much; it also depends on the department. Some want at least 2 years of related course work in a college.
@nictank
@nictank 8 лет назад
Honestly, the majority of departments don't have many requirements. Some prior knowledge with other jobs is almost always a requirement, but attending college or having a college degree aren't always a requirement. Of course, they always help. In order to go about becoming an LEO, you should do some research on local departments or departments you are interested in. Also, there will be a lot of physical and mental training (I am sure you are aware) and there will also be background checks, and a mental test to see if you are mentally fit to be an officer. But, that's only some of it.
