This is the second in a month where dehydration has played a part in a patient's issues. I'd love to see an episode discussing the effects of hydration in patient care and how we can ensure we hydrate properly in our day to day lives - to prevent being a patient. I'd lvoe to meet you one day, just not as a patient! lol

Drinking water. Your urine color shouldn’t be too dark. If it is, you know your dehydrated. Caffeine, and alcohol can make you dehydrated. Having diarrhea or vomiting excessively can also cause a person to dehydrate.

when my mom was 44 she had a stroke in the left side of her brain during her sleep. my aunts dog angel woke her up while it was happening and I honestly think that's what saved her life. she had all the signs: droopy face, double vision, slurred speech, trouble walking/paralysis on right side of body. but i was 10 years old and didn't know, she waited 48 hours to go to the ER but amazingly she was able to make a 100 percent recovery. it was an experience for sure but I learned so much so this vlog was really interesting to me!

Just a little side note if anyone is experiencing a stroke: It's always best to call an ambulance rather than driving yourself or have someone drive you because not all hospitals are stroke certified. This means there might not be a neurologist available or the hospital may not be equipped to handle stroke cases. Ambulances and paramedics are trained to know the nearest stroke certified hospitals so they can get you where you need to be so treatment isn't delayed! Depending on the type of stroke, the timing of treatment is essential as certain medications can only be given during a very specific window as in the cases of ischemic strokes and thrombolytics etc etc. Great content as always Siohban, keep up the hard work and thank you for being a wonderful doctor to your patients!!

I had a stroke this past July. It happened in a hospital. I had gone to the ER for severe shortness of breath, which turned out to be the result of congestive heart failure. I went into AFIB, and the fluctuations in BP caused a small hemorragic stroke. I don't really remember much, except my husband noticed I wasn't making sense when I talked. I'm okay now, except for some balance issues and a loss of dexterity in my left hand. My doctor tells me I should get more exercise :-(

Another great video! I have a question. I had been in the hospital for two weeks due to pulmonary embolism, and I was diagnosed with hyper thyroid. I was also told that I have a 3.3 mm near my pituitary. What could cause me to get a pulmonary embolism? Now they tell me that I had three in the one big one was the one they were concerned about. I still have two left that’s why I’m on Xarelto. my tremors are crazy and I don’t know why I tremor. I feel very strange ever since the pulmonary embolism. Can’t stand a long time either.

As someone who has spent most of my life in the hospital (I have Spina Bifida & Hydrocephalus) It is really awesome to see the nurses side of things that go on! & also my sister in-law in a night nurse & it amazes me she is able to keep up with everything lol

It's Irish for "Joan." I not for sure, however, some references to “Joan of Arc” (I think, could be wrong).

How long you sleep if you have had a night shift? If you usually sleep for example 7 hours and you come home at 8 in the morning, do you sleep 7 hours?

At the beginning if the year I had to start a medical careers class, and I wasn't looking forward to it and it sounded awful and scary, but you thought me that it wasn't bad and you are so calm! You made me more interested in types of medical careers. Thanks!

Hi, I absolutely love your videos. I am a musician also, so I love that aspect. I am also visually impaired, so I love when you are able to actually physically describe things. I have learned so much from you, and I am really enjoying watching you blossom.

Reyna So you had a lumbar puncture I take it? Did it hurt bad? I’ve never had one but They scare the heck out of me!
@MsStina84
@MsStina84 5 лет назад
I kind of have an idea, but what could a lumbar puncture show? I know that if the liquor is red it can mean bleeding and if it's not clear it could be an infection. Something else? And how would you do that procedure on me, my spinal cord is damaged from the Th12 level, spina bifida/myelomeningocele. You usually stick the needle under that level, right?

Stina Palm They test the spinal fluid, similar to how they test blood, and it shows certain things. Bacteria, inflammatory markers, and a load of other things can be found and that gives drs an idea of what’s going on!

I love your videos, thank you for showing us what it's like to be a medical resident! I'm a Unit Clerk in a hospital in BC, and I would love it if you did a video about some of the other people that work in a hospital, the ones that don't often get attention

i have a rare genetic condition, when i go to hospital, no nurse or doctor knows what i'm talking about. It's annoying, i'm there to get help (when i can barely talk or walk) and not to educate them on my medical condition. what should i do? bring medical information sheets?
@Nan-59
@Nan-59 5 лет назад
Bridie Turtle That’s exactly what I would do!! I’m sorry they don’t already know without you having to tell them!!

bring all your medical information and past medical history, keep it all in a folder and just hand it over to them. that’s what i do :)
