Hey guys! Follow me along on a typical day as a graphic designer as I take you to work with me! Every day is different, but I wanted to show you what a normal day in the life of a designer looks like. Graphic design has been a great career and job for me and is something I am very passionate about! I majored in graphic design at a 4 year university and got a Bachelor of Arts degree. Future videos I plan on working on are how to make a graphic design portfolio, what is a graphic designer salary, and examples of a graphic designer resume. Feel free to ask any questions in the comments below about graphic design work and education. Hope you enjoy!
You may be wondering is graphic design a good career in today's environment? I think working from home and remote jobs for a graphic designer are positive aspects of the field. Having a home office space has been a great way for me to continue working from home at my graphic design gig. For those of you interested in graphic design school or being a graphic design student, I got my 4-year degree in Design and Visual Communication from Peck School of the Arts at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee.

Love seeing an inside scoop of your job! I can relate to the mundaneness of sitting at your desk all day and enjoying changing it up with a meeting or showroom work (I also work in a design showroom!) You don’t technically need college to become a designer. I did a semester in college and dropped out. after I found out You need to have a strong portfolio! And be great with talking to clients and communicate skills are a plus! And what you can bring to the table.

@@softblossom522 Hi, I am not an expert but Sagittarius is ruled by Jupiter the planet of expansion and growth that makes us wants to learn more and do so many things, and also planet of luck! As a fire sign, we are mutable, that means we adapt to changes very easily and we don't like to stuck in one place and doing one thing. We like to do so many things and we can be really good in anything but we usually end up doing nothing because we change our minds a lot. As Sagittarius we are optimistic which attracts luck most of the time, an eternal student and easily adapt to changes. Read stuffs about our sign and you will know more about yourself and you will be amazed of how accurate it gets sometimes. But of course it depends on our moon and rising. But thats another topic. Go ahead learn more about our sign!

sounds like a cool job! definitely the type of thing i’d be interested in. i’ve been working in retail for 8 years and since becoming an art major i’ve developed more of an appreciation for visual marketing in the retail space. i’m finishing up my graphic design bfa and graduating this december. it’s so interesting hearing about all the different things you can do with a design degree!

Well based on my experience with having plans after high school, I can honestly say you never know what you’ll expect. I had plans after leaving high school and NONE of them happened. But what did stay, and what did work out was my dream. Even though all my plans after high school didnt happen I am somehow still working on my dream. And that’s what you have to do, you can go to college, get your degree but the real work is your OWN research, finding mentors to help you, and having the right friends to guide you toward your dreams.

I’m so in love , I’ve been in so many different career fields and I always feel bored or drained. This video resonated with every cell of my being 🙌🏾 I love words ! I love design! I love colors! @@basayir4046 Hello, you can also make business cards, flyers, marriage cards, birthday cards etc graphics stuff on fiverr. If you really know your job well, in couple of days you will start getting orders. But you have to work hard in order to get orders. I mean your gigs should be proper, seo, and you should have good communication and knowledge of your field. If you have some financial issue like you need immediatly job, but you are interesed in graphic design and want to make carrer in that only, so do some small site job selling newspaper, tea etc along with active daily on fiverr..And when you start getting orders on fiverr then you can quit your site job or not quit as it depends on you. I am sharing my experice, It may fit for you or may not fit for you. Observe things and do right. Thanks

I'm planning on being a junior in the fall for graphic design (visual communication design) and this summer I've been trying to use Skillshare to help improve my skills since I've felt like I'm not where I should be as a designer at this time. I guess my advice would be how have you dealt with moments of self doubt and not feeling like you'll be good enough to find a stable place in your Carrer? When it came to finding internships what was expected of your experience? I aspire to be more comfortable with motion graphics and be a web and UI/UX designer. Lovely video by the way 💕

Because of Corona, I want to be a designer. I did not major in designer school. 5 years I worked as a tourism marketing, but because of Corona, I was temporarily housed, the company was totally closed because in Indonesia it has not been allowed to go out on holiday. Beginning in March I started learning Photoshop from RU-vid, books and websites. I learned it was not to work in a company that needed a designer, but I wanted to run an online business. Because in 2016 I already knew Shopify and run a dropshipping business. Stay afloat and fight for corona. GBU ALL

Zora I’ve always been pretty creative, In the UK when your 16-18 you go to college (high school in the USA) and I chose to do photography, sports science and geography, I failed geography in my first year but got top grades in photography so gave graphic design a shot in my second year, got top grades and loved it, so chose to do it at university! (Everything happens for a reason, failing a subject was the best thing to happen to me 😂) .. in my spare time I make videos for my RU-vid channel which is graphic design so I figured I really liked it! If you’re unsure, maybe do some graphic design in your spare time and if you love it and you’re passionate then it’s for you! I graduated in the class of 2020, and I wanted to ask for your opinion: is it better to get a graphic design degree in college, or get a graphic design certificate, for taking courses specifically in graphic design? Hello! I work at an elementary school and we have a class every Wednesday for the kids called AVID that is focused on getting students familiar with college and opening them to the different careers there are. Today we watched this video, a day in the life of grafic designer and the kids enjoyed it very much as well as myself. As of today you have one more follower in me 😊. Love this! I got the chance to see how graphic designers work in other places. I'm a graphic designer from the Philippines, and I totally agree with wanting to do other stuff (even theyre not about graphic design) not just sitting in front of your computer. Exposing ourselves out there and exploring more!

I went for my first job interview ever, it was a "pre-interview" that I had been accepted for a position as junior graphic designer under the sub category of product and animation designer. Upon my arrival they took my money to conduct "a criminal record search on my behalf'", they then told me that they weren't a hiring company but an agency that assists applicants get hired. they told me the money they took from me would be refunded if I didn't get a position and I would be told in 7 days. After that they were nowhere to be found and I realized I had been scammed. I guess I was stupid not to see the red flags but ey, that's just my story, watch out if you're applying in South Africa. I'm still healing from the shock of the situation.

Wonderful video! I have been thrust into designing my Institute's Annual Report this year and I've been teaching myself Illustrator and InDesign and so far I love it!!! Currently in a community college rn studying cs but it's more oriented towards software programming. While my graphic design program offers web design + graphic design. I really enjoy solely web development/UX design/and even graphic design. What do you suggest I should do to satisfy my needs?

Loved this video! I currently finished my Bachelors in Human Resource Management in December and I’ve come to terms that it isn’t for me and am ready to go back to school and am currently looking into an associates program in graphic design. Do you think it is worth it in the end? How much dedication is it? Is it hard to get into? Was it hard to get a job after school?

Glad you liked it! Since you already have a bachelors, getting an associates or any other type of training in design would be helpful I think. It is definitely a lot of computer work as almost everything is 100% digital now. I was fortunate enough to find a job while I was still in school.

Hy Lindsay, Great to see your day being a Graphic designer. I am also very passionate about it. I am a Graphic designer & a Visual artist but some time. It distracts me a lot. When people don't take things seriously. How you stay motivated whether you are doing good in GD carrier as people's perspectives or You are just contented whatever you do.

Hi!! It is frustrating when your designs aren’t taken seriously or that your input isn’t heard. I’m usually a quiet person and just try to let stuff like that roll off my shoulders but if I feel very passionate about a design I will stick up for myself. Just be confident in your work and don’t be afraid to stand up for it.

I'm also a Graphic Designer and I can really relate to the bored feeling when you're stuck at your desk all day. I don't do showroom design cause or company focusses mainly on printwork. So sadly I will most of the time be sitting at my desk aaaalll day. Of course we have a lunch break tho. After 5 hours my focus and motivation is as good as gone...

@@KawaiiAznPanda7 Don't know is this question was aimed at me or Lindsay but i figured i would answer haha. The reason I found out this was for me was because the school I wanted to go to organized information days. I went to two information days. The teacher will tell you a little bit about the study and you get to hear some stories from students that follow the study. They also showed me some of the things you will be designing when you follow the study. I found it to be interesting so that's why I chose Graphic Design.

Pros: being able to be creative all day long, your work can be done from nearly anywhere you have access to a computer, design is a component of nearly every brand/company now Cons: sometimes having to sit in front of a computer for hours, you may have to start doing graphic design work that you're not very passionate about in order to break into the field to get your "dream job"

Pros: Working with other creatives can be really fun, you get to problem solve a lot, depending on where you are it's pretty easy work. Cons: In most graphic design jobs at some point up the ladder you answer to a non-creative, so sometimes they can have really unhelpful feedback or make slight changes that really ruin a good design. I would say if you only slightly want to go into this field, probably keep looking.

I graduated last year with a Graphic and Communication Design Degree in Canada. I got an internship with a company in the UK, for 3 months, my internship is coming to end, but I hope it will lead to a job with the company. I love graphic design because it is such a high-demand job nowadays and there are so many opportunities in this industry!

i just made the decision today to switch from a marketing major + art minor to an art major (focusing on graphic design) + maybe a business minor. i was wondering how long or how hard or easy it was to find a job after college if you went to college for this?

Great video, it’s nice to see what a work day is like for a graphic designer. I have a marketing degree, but I wish I had gone into graphic design instead. I’m currently working towards a graphic design certificate to at least learn the basics. 😬 Huge respect to all graphic designers!!

I have been struggling trying to find a career choice recently, I went to art school about five years ago and had to drop out due to many reasons and i was discouraged and stopped doing art i recently started art again(illustration/cartoons)and i'm inspired enough to want to pursue a career in the arts particularly graphic design I have no experience in this department but I may go to school again for it,any tips on where to start at before i consider fully entering a program? ^_^

I am a college senior currently, I have experience in both the art as well as graphic design field. If you can do both go for it. I did an interdisciplinary major where I took both class subjects. Graphic Design is very business, I had a hard time letting go of art because the program was super tedious Which is why I chose an alternative major where I can do both, I just had to take certain classes, whatever I didn't learn like motion graphics I can learn on my own time. But the program at your school may be more laid back. Definitely try taking on a client, I actually had my first client a couple weeks ago. Figure out what you want, do you want to start your own business? Do you mind sitting at a computer for hours in an office-type environment? If you want to start a business related to art or design take marketing classes with it. Learn how to market yourself as an artist or whoever you wanna be. The most important thing I have learned in my college experience.

I'm starting my journey as a garphic designer and I'm going to a community college because I don't have enough money for a university. Hopefully I can get a job that doesn't require a bachelor's degree or something more higher. Right now I'm just trying to make a portfolio and get a Associate's degree of Arts.
