Ao true all cant ho to iit in india...and other private university dont hv such practical set up....they r very limited and not in large scale....so we lack practical knowledge....Indian engineering studwnt only forced to focus on theoritical knowledge only......I am too a mechanical student.....but i am not exposed to much large scale in practical knowledge..... We do simulation and computaional dynamics and all software related knowledge and practical...but they never put into work with actual machine....ao we lack ..in terms of practical experience

I am in an engineering school in Montreal, and I can tell you that i personally know many incredibly smart and very competent future mechanical engineers that happen to be women! I think women and men don't think exactly the same way, and in a team, the combination of the sexes is the best way to solve a complicated engineering problems. Mechanical Engineer here, finished with school and my day is very different. I work at a product design Engineer in R&D department, every week my job changes, one week I might be working in solidworks designing a small part for a complex system, and the next week I could be using ANSYS and working with fluid dynamics simulations. I also have access to some very high tech 3D printers, metal printers, carbon fiber printers, CNC's and more to help me produce the products I design for a customers or in house application.

@RiverTechJess
@RiverTechJess 6 лет назад
hey thanks so much! I'm glad you liked it:) what school do you go to?
@mariomasters1
@mariomasters1 6 лет назад
I go to the University of Iowa right now. I have a question for you. I'm interested in the notion of research and even a little more specific in fluid flows and the associated heat transfer that can occur. The overarching reason why I'm interested in this area is because of renewable energy technologies like wind turbines. However, this semester I'll be taking 6 courses (18 semester hours) and I don't think I would have time for it. Have you been in situations like this before? My gut instinct right now is to hold off during the spring semester and try next fall when I'll have a smaller course load. What do you think? Also, thanks for responding to my comment. Subscribed! :)
@RiverTechJess
@RiverTechJess 6 лет назад
Thats a great/fun area of research! And renewables is a great industry because it's what every city/company is investing in. I think if you have a heavy course load, then don't start research. Because you want to do your best work (maybe even publish in a journal), you want to make good connections with the professors and the PhD students (for letters of recommendation). basically, you want to give 100%. You wont be able to do that with a heavy course load. BUT don't wait until you have an easy course load, because chances are that you wont have one. So I would suggest to find some sort of compromise, maybe take 2 electives in one semester so that you can focus on research. Also consider summer research:) Good luck and let me know how it goes!

In my 1st year of work as a mechanical engineer. Work is rough but fun when I get to do design work. In the sugar industry though so just gathering the experience and plan to start-up something myself that I find more meaningful. The best thing about engineering is the options you have. You can quite literally do anything you want provided you're willing to work for it. To any students out there battling, or people thinking about doing mechanical engineering, keep this in mind through your slog. It is all worth it. And do your pracs! Especially those pesky elec ones. You won't regret it when you're sitting with a multidisciplinary project and don't have to revise the shit out of it :P Have a good day

I like how this course changed my mind, I mean, you start to see the things and try to imagine how are they build mainly when you have the resistance of materials subject at the course hehe. Right now when u were showing the machine I was imagining, wow how they built something like his or how did they discovered some stuffs, cuz the hardest part is when you search, search and research and don't find what u want. After christmas holidays I have final exams and then the new semester will start with thermodynamics and much more 😱😜 In our bachelor’s program we can choose minors or internships abroad and stuff like that. I want to do my minor (6 months electives course) in robotics, after that I want to do a masters in robotics @ ETH Zürich! The future is robotics, I want to work in a robotics field, could be in any industry it’s a wide field with different types of applications! I

Hey William! Ya Bachelor's is haaardddd (I'm so so happy to be done lol). It gets better I promise:) ohh yes I remember statics (my dynamics course was much much harder than stats). Good luck with exams! And don't be discouraged when you start therm', it's hard but it very interesting. A minor in robotics sounds SO DOPE! So that and then build me a robot please:D I agree, it's a very wide industry and I'm sure you'll find an application that you like once you start your minor and you do your masters (at ETH). Let me know if you have any questions in the future about ETH!

Your channel is excellent (although you don't need me to tell you this!)! I love that you show your experimental analysis and explain how it fits into the scheme of things. My thesis research project (at Curtin in Western Australia) will begin in six months and it is my hope that I have the same enthusiasm and vigor as you during your experiments and research! Thank you for the good example and positive attitude. Someone I admire said 'never let anyone take away your smile', and this is clearly seen in your clip and your research efforts! Thank you again, and I hope that your research yielded positive fruits!!

I really do! When you're developing a project you always get stuck on many problems and on the contrary of what most people think when encountering such problems that's actually when I have the most fun, because you spend hours researching for a solution and you end up learning a lot during the process.

Also a mechanical engineer, I'm a senior at Texas Tech University in the US. Any advice on where to go after graduation? I'm looking for jobs but the market is really competitive right now.. not sure if I should keep searching aggressively or jump into MS here at Tech or somewhere else. Advise please! Great Vlog btw...!
@RiverTechJess
@RiverTechJess 6 лет назад
Hey Khubaib Lakhani! Thanks for watching and great question. As a young engineer you really have a lot of options. What are your reasons for wanting to do a MSc? Is it just because you're not sure about the market? Because you should only be getting an MSc for the following reasons: 1- You want to work in Europe. In Europe you need an MSc to work as an engineer. There's really nothing else to say. Unless you don't actually want to work as an engineer and just find another job. 2- You want to work in a specialized field. For example, I work in combustion. If I was to work at Siemens or Pratt & Whitney or GE, I need at LEAST an MSc (or even a PhD) but this is a specific research field within engines. But if you are fine with being flexible an working on many different types of projects as an engineer along different parts of the pipeline then I wouldn't suggest an MSc. So the question is really, what do you want to do? Now my question to you. Would you benefit if I started making a little video series called the "1 minute ask an engineer show" where I would answer questions like these in 1min? Let me know and thanks for watching!
@15Khubaib15
@15Khubaib15 6 лет назад
Honestly I don't have enough industry experience to really know if I'm interested in a specialized field. I feel like work experience is the only way I would personally be able to get an idea about it and unfortunately I only have one internship in Oil & Gas (It's huge in TX) and I realized I'm not interested in pursuing that so it helped. I am interested in a lot of things and I feel like I could develop a passion for wherever I start unless it's a dead- end repetitive field. And yes I would watch that lol.. I think for me the only thing that stops me from clicking on an interesting video (in this case for ex. a mech engr related vid) would be the duration. So 1-min vids would capture a huge audience. I know some male engineer youtubers who have very boring 6-8 min videos and they have hundreds of thousands of views so definitely think you could be successful with that!
@RiverTechJess
@RiverTechJess 6 лет назад
Ok so I think if you don't really know what you like then I would say you can do two things. 1- This last year of college, maybe explore the possibilities to do an MSc. And I don't mean in terms of schools. I mean in labs/projects and go speak to professors. You can email professors asking about their lab and saying your interested in doing an MSc and most of them will be happy to show you around and show you the research going on. Then you can pick an interesting project that you might develop a passion for. 2- You can go for internships/jobs in different fields and figure out what you like and then decide to go back and do an MSc. I think the REALLY TRULY important thing here is to remember that you literally have your entire life to do an MSc. And you also literally have your entire life to work. You can always switch career paths. I'm from Canada but living in Europe and people live life so much slower here than in North America. Everyone is in less of a rush. Don't buy into the fact that you need to figure everything out right away, because you don't. (Also please subscribe if you haven't yet :P )
@15Khubaib15
@15Khubaib15 6 лет назад
That last bit was what I needed to hear. Society and norms make us feel so pressured to plan out and calculate every move we make and not think about what we actually want to do. I think I need to take a step back and take a deep breath. I will look into both options you suggested me. You are very right in the sense that it's pointless to jump into a MSc by default without considering why I am doing it. I think I'm leaning towards giving the job market a solid effort and see where my fate takes me.. most recruiting goes on through November, and I have a sense of what interests me. But thanks a lot for the advice. I'll let you know how it turns out! And officially subscribed.. :)

Seriously, enjoy it while it lasts. Yes highschool is boring, but you have a ton of free time! Pick up sports or hobbies that you've been wanting to do, hang out with friends more, date enough girls to satisfy you for multiple years. College is way more interesting, but also way harder and time consuming. It is not out of the ordinary to basically go byebye social life in your first year.

@danceartist8203
@danceartist8203 6 лет назад
Depends, In general I'd say Germany for engineering. However, accoeding to the world rank list some uni whose name I forgot in the us is #1 and the TU Delft in the Netherlands is a very close #2 when it comes to mechanical engineering. Keep in mind though, unless you speak German you'll find it hard to make German friends. (Even though all of them speak fluent English and arent dicks.)
@parthakaizer
@parthakaizer 6 лет назад
Besides the point mentioned here by the people studying in USA is a bit expensive than Germany. And Germany provides free education for even international people. Its only the living expenses tha you have to bear. And standard of living is high too. But not like living in the US. The tuition fees may vary according to the universities you are applying consequently the courses you are planning to take up or pursue! Also Germany is a good place for mechanical engineers , the country being the hub for many automobile manufacturing units. Hope this helps you to make more informed choices!

@superkrystal98
@superkrystal98 6 лет назад
I'm only a sophomore so I'm still in the "weed out" stage of the program. Junior year is the hardest. Taking upper level physics and calculus right now along with some EE and programming courses. It is a lot of work and its not easy but its manageable if you plan out your time well and use the available resources to help you when you struggle. I certainly do not study all day lol. I'd be burnt out if I did, and you shouldn't do that either. It's good to take some time off relaxing and going to parties and stuff. But you have to immediately get back to the grind the next day
@superkrystal98
@superkrystal98 6 лет назад
Freshman year 1 semester I partied almost every weekend because to me the work was not difficult at all(calc 1, chem 1, some gen eds). If you can, try and go out and have as much fun as possible during your first semester if you also find your course load to be manageable and relatively easy. Get all the partying and fun out your system because after freshman year you'll have very little time to do so if you want to progress and do well. Keep your GPA up, get involved, and have some fun. Best of luck to you. If you got any questions don't hesitate to ask

Hi, I'm final year mechanical engineer. but i have friends in electric in my hostel. so almost all engineering fields are way too much easy. we do party, and everything. I myself usually study at last month of semester, although i won't advice you for such thing but i still have 3.4 cgpa. while in my department, teachers don't give good grades so often as compared to other campuses, but still it is easy unless you are weak in mathematics
