My written exam and history is this Friday!! That will be one busy day! But I’ll be celebrating after with our Livestream this Saturday November 23rd at 2pm GMT!!
Hey Tara I'm Zack I'm a medical Student too I really loved your channel and I can translate your videos for Arabic people If agree, waiting for your reply
Why is it everyone so pressed about her wearing makeup? 😐 she can do whatever she wants if it makes her happy + it doesn’t even take long so what’s the problem 🥱
You'll be a GREAT doctor. Because you have a great outlet to release all the chaos and heart-thumping scenes you'll have in the hospital, and that is your music. So every time you go back to work, you always have that wonderful mood to attend patients. :)
Good luck in everything, please always remember that there are some people who want to get into rcsi but they cant. Please stay thankful as you are ❤️❤️ i hope i can get into rcsi next year
You know what Tara? You should save time and money. You looks brilliant even just a minute after wake up! You dont need any make up! Thanks for sharing your day! Greetings from Hungary!
You said numerous times how stressful school is and I totally believe you but you say it so calmly. I guess that's the doctor in you. Good luck on your exams even though you don't need it, kick some #@%.
School does get stressful at times, but I try to focus on the things that are most important first. The most important thing is that I am safe, I am fed, and I have slept - if I don't have those three things than I can't work through any of the other stressors of my day.
Hello Doctor. Your video is really informative. I am an MBBS graduate from Nepal. I am taking USMLE exams. Could you please tell me how can I do postgraduate in medicine (internal medicine or pediatric or family medicine or GP) using my USMLE scores. In addition, can u please provide which websites will have authentic informations about it. Thank you very much!!
Hey Tara, I’m a grade 10 pre IB student from Canada. I am interested in pursuing the 5 year medical school program offered at RCSI. I have a few questions about the requirements. Did you apply with the IB diploma, or by doing the advanced placement program at high school? Furthermore, what classes did you use in whichever program you did in high school, and what grades are optimal to apply with. In addition, do you know if it is difficult for Canadian students that graduate from RCSI to find residency back home. Thank you
Hi Dallas, I don't have the answer to many of your questions because I am a student in the Graduate Entry stream at RCSI - meaning that I did an undergraduate degree, the MCAT, and then applied to medical school. The Graduate program is 4 years instead of 5 - but I've also already done a previous degree. So, unfortunately, I'm not helpful when it comes to questions about the specific requirements to enter the 5-year program. If you have Instagram, I would highly recommend following @rcsi_studentlife or you could email admissions@rcsi.ie (they can give you great info, or sometimes connect you with a current student in your desired program to answer some of your questions). I can tell you a bit about returning to Canada. It is more difficult (compared to completing medical school in Canada) to return for residency in Canada; however, RCSI understands that many of the students are aiming to return to Canada or the USA so it has put programs in place to assist these students in preparing high-quality applications to CaRMS. As a Canadian student, I am also applying to the USA because my current specialty of choice (surgery, then paediatric surgery) has more opportunities in the states. So I am making the choice to keep my options open and taking both the Canadian and USMLE board exams. If you have any other questions I would reach out to the RCSI resources I mentioned earlier.
how long does make-up take, by the way? (I wouldn't know) Thank you for explaining your curriculum structure. Interesting. I liked the use of time to record while walking! Very efficient :) hope your exams go well! - from someone else with exams
When I do my make-up for everyday it usually take me anywhere from 5-15 minutes - and sometimes I don’t do it (like you won’t see me in make up this week - EXAMS 😖📚). I do it because it’s something that makes me a little bit more confident. Good luck on your exams! What are you studying?
I do turn the water off, I just ran out of hands for the few seconds that I was filming (phone in one hand, toothbrush in the other). I turned the water off as soon as I put the phone down (but you guys didn't see that part).
Make up or not. It doesn't matter. You still look beautiful. Good luck on your med career. But I do hope you put out an album so I can buy it. Future Houston fan.
Hi! I'm not as familiar with the application process for students applying outside of North America - I would reach out to the schools you are interested directly via the admissions departments (the contact info is available on most schools websites)
Hi Tara, I have a few related questions for you. I am not asking you to explicitly answer them all. I would love to hear any general comments you have about them. Maybe they are better suited for you next Q&A..... If I was trying to maximise my score in an exam, I would not make vlogs. I would see time spent vlogging as time spent not studying. Do you feel that by spending time vlogging you are sacrificing marks in the exam? I assume that the answer must be yes - but maybe it is a negligible amount of marks that you are missing out on? Have you made a conscious decision to accept lower marks in your exams in return for the value that you get from vlogging? Finally, what value do you get from vlogging (e.g. the satisfaction of producing quality vlogs, the fun of interacting with fans, the learning experience)? Thank you so much for everything. I don't like free-loading from you like this. If you need anything, say so and I'll do it.
Hi Eoin, Thanks for your comment. I have no problem answering your questions! I'll answer them for you here, but I may write a blog post about it as well (sounds like a great idea to me). 1. Do you feel that by spending time vlogging you are sacrificing marks in the exam? I assume that the answer must be yes - but maybe it is a negligible amount of marks that you are missing out on? For this one, I don't think that I am sacrificing marks in the exam when I make videos - the reason being that, with the exception of this particular video, I choose not to make videos 6/7 days of the week. I set aside time on Sunday's (the same day I do #TunesWithTara) to film and edit anywhere from 2-4 videos at a time. This usually takes anywhere from 2-5 hours and helps me to get videos done ahead of time (that way I can take future time off to study more - for example in my upcoming exam period). This is time that I take out of my schedule that I wouldn't have been otherwise studying - and I think that is the key point for me. The time I spend making videos does not come out of my study time, but instead, it comes out of my free time for the week. If I over study than I am only preparing myself to burn out, but having things get in the way of studying is also a sure-fire way to failure. I also prioritize my sleep - so much so that I have my study time and my sleep time blocked off in my phone calendar, and unless I have an extremely good reason (family emergency for example) I don't mess with it. The time I spend making videos for RU-vid comes out of my 'free time budget' that I have for myself. And as I have previously mentioned - if I need to not make a video that week and prioritize studying I do (it's why I make videos ahead of time). 2. Have you made a conscious decision to accept lower marks in your exams in return for the value that you get from vlogging? No, if making videos was getting in the way of my marks I would either restructure my time - or stop making content altogether. I have a priority structure to how I think of my life - my wellbeing comes first (sleep, eating, etc.), studying/school comes second, and everything else comes after that. I think that being a doctor is what I am meant to do with my life, but I also know that I won't learn as well if I don't take care of myself. This is the reason that I block my time out in my schedule - because then my priorities get the majority of my time. Everyone in med school (in my experience at least), has something that they do outside of being a med student - some people play video games, paint, make music, craft, sports teams, clubs, societies, etc. - me making videos for the internet is just more public than some of my other classmates. 3. What value do you get from vlogging (e.g. the satisfaction of producing quality vlogs, the fun of interacting with fans, the learning experience)? I like making videos for a few reasons. 1) I love making music for other people - and RU-vid is a great way for me to do that. 2) I love interacting with people from all over the world, and the internet is a great place to do that, and 3) the act of making quality videos helps me to relieve my stress and give me an outlet after a long week of studying. I hope that this answered all of your questions - and if you have anything else you would like to ask/add/say please feel free to write back! -T
@@DrTaraJamieson I'm absolutely blown away by the kindness & detail of your response! Thank you so so much! I'm also glad to hear that you prioritise sleep. I'm reading "Why We Sleep" at the moment and it's actually scary how important sleep is, and how detrimental to one's health (and learning capacity for learning) undersleeping is. I guess you (as you are both a high performer and someone who prioritises sleep) are a 'case in point' for the book's message.
@@eoindoyle9004 I hit what I like to call my 'point of diminishing returns' when I try to study too long into the evening (sometimes it is necessary to study longer than I anticipate in my schedule, but I try to plan to avoid it if possible). I find that if I stay up later I don't retain as much the next day and waste more of my time thinking 'I should be sleeping right now' rather than studying. To me, it's more important to understand how something works - so that even if I come across a question where I don't know the answer - I can reason my way through it. I'll look into that book (I'm always looking for new books to read before bed) - right now I'm reading "The Defining Decade". It's about taking control of your 20s, and its a great book so far.
@@DrTaraJamieson Thanks again Tara! Yes, I totally get you regarding diminishing returns on studying. I think the details within "Why We Sleep" will surprise you. To give you a quick summary (just what I remember off the top of my head), the author makes a convincing (evidence/trial based) case that sleep: helps you recall facts, helps you avoid cancer & heart attacks, makes you more beautiful. The scary part is that undersleeping has the opposite effects & you cannot make up for undersleeping one night by oversleeping the next (or so the author argues). It will change the way you think about sleeping (and push it up your priority list). But it already seems to be very high on your list which is great! Enjoy your sleep tonight you absolutely wonderful person! Edit: and thanks for telling me about your book. Unfortunately it's too late for me to take control of my 20s :(
you are still beautiful with out makeup, dam that looks cold, mmmmmmm Coffee love watching you in your day to day life soon Doc love from down under xxxxx
So there are quite a few different living options when moving to Dublin. The ones that are closest to RCSI campus are Scapes (brand new), and New Mill/The Tannery.
@@DrTaraJamieson yay! I like them a a lot. They're very personal and gives us faceless fans a really nice connection to you. I know I feel more like a best friend you'll probly never know but support you as much b/c of them! I think you're an angel honey!
No, but if you want more info on Scholarships at RCSI admissions@rcsi.ie would be a place to ask (or www.rcsi.com/dublin/undergraduate/application-information/scholarships).
Hello, Did you apply through Atlantic Bridge? Are you worried about getting residency in Canada when you are finished? I have applied to pretty much all the schools in Ireland through Atlantic Bridge but I’m worried I won’t be able to match back…
Hi James, I did apply through Atlantic Bridge. Getting back to North America is a primary concern for any student who goes to Ireland for med school. I can’t speak to any of the other med schools but this is why RCSI has a lot of resources to make sure that we put together comprehensive applications for Canada and the USA. There is a specific study program for students undertaking the USMLE, and resources for the other American and Canadian board exams as well.
@@DrTaraJamieson Thanks for responding to my question. Another if you don't mind? I am taking the mcat in late April. Before this, I plan to take 8 full length practice mcat exams to see where I stand. My advisers tell me if I get a 505 on the practice exams I should hold back on the real exam. They say this because a 505 might not be good enough for American MD programs(This is a problem because American schools average your mcat scores) but my question is, would this score be good enough for Irish schools? If I got a 505 on the mcat, do you think this is high enough to get accepted to Irish medical programs? Thank you, James
@@jamescoughlin6357 Hi James, I can't speak for the other Irish Medical schools, but RCSI's minimum MCAT for the entering class of 2018 was 503. My best advice would be to study hard and try to get as good of an MCAT score as you can - practice exams are a great resource, and I did quite a few before my MCAT. If you have a good MCAT score it helps you as an applicant overall. The application process can be daunting and if an American school is what you are aiming for than a high MCAT is definitely the way to go!
For me, doing my makeup is something fun that I do. I’ve got my whole routine down to 5 minutes total. I definitely don’t see it as a necessity - but when I have time I enjoy doing it!
how wild is that, even someone like you, so naturally beautiful, wastes so much time painting her face, because without it she does not feel presentable. such a pitty :(
VoodooD0g hey! Thanks for writing! Doing my make up doesn’t take very much time (usually 5 minutes) - and for me it makes me feel the same way as if I had gone to the gym, or eaten a healthy breakfast. I understand that it’s not for everyone, but I enjoy it.
@@DrTaraJamieson 5 minutes isnt to bad, i thought it to be more than that because of the time lapse. keep up the good work and gl in your studies, enjoying your stuff :)
