Hi, Leah! there aren't enough words to explain how grateful we are for the long hours and nonstop care you nurses are rendering! Thank you very much for your sacrifices throughout this period. 🙌
I've been volunteering doing care aid at my husbands SNF and I hadn't done care aid in a couple years (10). I was absolutely blown away by the lack of care, empathy, work ethic that was shown by the nurses and CNAs I was working with. Broke my heart. I'm the same when it comes to taking care of people...What if that was my mom or dad? If you don't want to take care of people, quit. Leave. Thank you for being a good nurse.
You seem like such a thoughtful and thorough nurse! I would love a video discussing how you write your report sheets at the beginning of your shift while reviewing the PT charts
@@thenursecollective Thank you! I was just going to look at your other videos, but more "day in the life" videos would be cool if possible? It could be repetitive, but I'm always interested in them haha. I'm not sure if you have a video on how to give report or how to organize during a shift, but those could also be helpful! :)
@@cryptidangel7842 hey, i’ve been off orientation for a month now! there are good and bad days, but i really enjoy it! so much to learn, always new things to learn every day, new skills to perform. every shift is so different. i enjoy the bonds i can make with my patients though. can be chaotic, but i thrive on the chaos. i know a lot of people hate med/surg and for good reason, and maybe it’s bc i’m so new but i’m enjoying it at the moment!! lol
@@jinlie8746 Thank you so much for replying to me. I am really interested in Med Surg and a lot of people have discouraged me. Hearing your experience makes me very happy because I really am looking forward to do med surg. Thank you :)
Certified Nursing Assistants... come to work 'ready' to work. Or don't 'come'. And! Yes! I'm a Certified nursing assistant; phlebotomist; Med Technician. Sooooooo much truth in that statement!
Graduate nursing school in 3 weeks and looking to apply to med surg, but I’ve also seen an ICU position for Lpn. I’m nervous and I don’t know what to expect. I like your video
I am in the same boat! I do not know what I want to start my career in :( there are sooo many options its insane! lol but congrats!! and wish you the best
I will be MedSurg nurse soon there in the US I am pretty anxious cause I don’t have experience my current experience is in L&D here in Saudi Arabia. Watching your vid makes me feel excited. Thank youuu
Love this video.. Im a new grad about to start the residency program. The hospital only had certain units available (neuro, ortho, renal, oncology, General medicine) I think I may change from ortho to general medicine. Hope I love the unit as much as you do lol are you still in the medical surgical unit?
Hi please do make a pyxis tutorial. Appreciate! I worked in ER in the middle east and we do all the job. We don't have CNAs. But We have few health care assistants but they cater the entire emergency department and so it is very rare to get help from them. I didn't have any regrets working in my previous hospital bcoz it taught me different skills that i haven't experienced before.
What is the ratio? Just curious. On my unit for tele it is 4:1 and for med/surg it is 5:1.. of course the ratio has been off related to short staffing.
Hello, My name is Lisa and starting my preceptorship on the Med-surg floor. I have to be honest I am a little nervous however greatly appreciate all that you shared. I was wondering how you organize your paperwork, or rather what forms you use throughout the day? As a student we have seen only one form and I end up just writing all over it with no organization in the end. Can you recommend one specifically for Med-Surg? I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you.
Hello Leah, it seems to me that though the hospital is a busy place, I see you work autonomously. Is this usually the case, or are you around other nurses all of the time having to deal with their personalities? I like to work autonomously, where I have my schedule then go on about my busy and work. Do you have to deal with people giving you orders a lot, or do you already know what to do per se? Do other nurses try to boss you around? I heard when you are a BSN, you are pretty much your own boss, but as an ADN you may be micromanaged more. What is your take?
Pretty much nursing is mostly autonomous, but at times you do have to work with others. In the acute care setting there is no distiction between a ADN and BSN when it comes to floor nursing.
@@thenursecollective Thanks for your reply. I see a lot of nursing positions where they state, 'BSN preferred' in their listing. Would you recommend that I just go the ADN route to save money?
Hello, I’m currently a cardiovascular RN, and was thinking about trying travel MS/tele. What kind of patients do you typically get? For us it’s stroke or STEMI pts, anything more challenging that I should learn a bout first before switching to Med Surg?
My first suggestion would be to see if you can get some real hands on experience, but if not find a med surg nurse ans ask him/her to give a overview of their duties, refresh your memory of gwneral med-surg skills. If you still need more info you can reach out to me for more tips
