If anyone is interested in learning more about the work of actuaries, check out these sites: www.actuaries.org.uk/become-actuary/what-actuary , www.actuarialcareers.co.uk/career-advice/what-is-an-actuary/ . I found these really useful when researching careers last year! Actuaries work in lots of different fields so it is impossible to summarise in a single video. Hopefully this video gives you an insight into an intern's typical day - it's more about the learning at this stage and my day-to-day work was by no means representative of what a qualified actuary gets up to!
PaigeY ...ahhh, yes, actuarial positions....they can be difficult to get, so good for you!.... I was wondering how much info they gave interns/new employees, when putting you to work on projects....I am not looking for the specific info, but rather, if you had a problem to solve, did they give you functions, algorithms, suggest distributions to use, etc. I have several analytic/quants degrees, but I am worried that I might be given more than I could handle. Also, what level of excel, expertise did they require?....Did you use any programming languages?....If so which ones?..R?, ...Python?
Hi PaigeY, Here in India we do internships for 4-6 months and usually we get to internships in the last semester of University.... If found suitable we get an offer from the organisation to join permanently. I am happy to see such detailed video about internship in just 10 minutes. Although I never got an opportunity to work as an intern I think it was great for you. Hope you got to learn life changing experience from it. Great video 😅 Thanks for sharing your experience 😊
@inanna Mikky that's great if you are actually doing nothing! you can use that time to learn or just entertain yourself. Or even make money on the side!
I have been watching your videos since almost a year now..And this has led to an increase in my grades like I was B's last year and now I am A*s . This is all just because of you paige, thanks for being my inspiration. Your videos give me motivation and inspiration to enjoy my life at the same time work hard to achieve my goals. This is Kulsum from India .. Keep going..... love from India
Congrats Kulsum!! This is all down to your hard work, nothing to do with me 🥳 thanks so much for watching my videos and I’m so glad they have helped motivate you!
First, FINALLY SOMEONE POSTS SOME ACTUAL REALISTIC CONTENT. Second, please tone down your awesomeness. It is way too much. Three, I'm obsessed with your videos (well always was)
Omg I'm in love with this video. I'm so proud of you!! If you get amazing internship you get so happy and productive and a sneak a peak in adult life. Me too with the driving skills, I got more confident too. This is amazing Paige
Hi Paige! You've kept me company these past weeks while I was studying for my last exam which I did last Thursday! I'm so happy :) thanks for your videos, I'll keep watching you studying for my thesis and post graduation stuff!
Grown up Paige! 😉 I feel sure you’re going to be an asset to whoever you end up working for. Thanks for the look around and the description of what you did. Very interesting.
I'm a reinsurance underwriter and Willis is my favorite broker for sure. You're obviously very bright, and I'm sure they'll offer you a job, but if I can offer any advice, stay humble. Some of the brightest and most successful actuaries I've worked with, the ones that go on to lead companies, are the ones that are just really down to earth and never try to be the smartest person in the room (even though they are). Best of luck in your career!
the fact that I can actually understand this video bc I am taking actuarial sciences and going into my 2nd year in uni!! Glad to hear about your internship 😍👍🏻
Paige, as a newly qualified actuary after 8 solid years of studying, I very much enjoyed the video - really could relate to my usual day! Whilst I'm based in a very different actuarial role, the nature of the science is the core understanding. It challenges me every day and is indeed financially rewarding - if it was easy everyone would do it! And I bet tons of future actuaries have already watched this :D all the best
Hi Paige!! I found this very interesting! I did an internship this summer as well in actuarial consulting (but in pensions not insurance) and I enjoyed listening to this to compare my experiences as an intern to yours!
Paige you are really hardworking person even though you had a full time job u still had time to prepare your videos and you really inspire me to work hard Keep going!😉
I’m an Italian guy and I love watching your vids not only for the great uni content you bring, but also because of.. you 🥰 I mean it’s impossible not to fall for such a charming and beautiful british girl 😍
Please never place your bag on the passengerseat and then walk around to the driversite. This is exactly how I got robbed from my bag. I may not live in the UK but in the Netherlands, but I think this is not something that only happens in my country. Just telling you so it doesn't happen to you 😉 Lovely video btw (as always) 😊
@@sarahjoybrittain5009 since it happened to me I take my handbag with me in to the car at the driversite. And when I close the door I put the locks on immediately. Maybe it sounds paranoid but it almost happened to me again a couple of months later only 100 metres from the place I was robbed. Only this time I had my cardoors locked in time.
The same thing happen in my country actually . Some people got robbed when they put their bag on the passenger seat. This happen especially when they stop at the traffic light. They will try to break the window cars or if you don't lock the car, they will open it and steal your stuff
haha, recommend clicking your bag or handbag in with a seatbelt, my mom does that so that if someome ever tried to steal through the window, the bag would be stuck
Was procrastinating my studying for quite a while now!! I am a total Pro at Procrastination!! Saw your video... And now I'm HAPPILY PROCRASTINATING!😂😂😂 P.S. Saying this for maybe the thousandth time... YOU ARE EXTREMELY AMAZING AND HARDWORKING, AND MY ROLE MODEL!❤️❤️❤️
Nice video!!! Although like most of your other viewers, I wasn't expecting you to pursue an actuarial career. Having said that, congrats on joining the rest of us in the actuarial profession, :DDDDD!!!! Here are some things you can expect on your path to become a qualified actuary: 1. Actuarial exams shall become your life until you get your FIA (UK) or FSA/FCAS (North America), :DDDDDDD 2. You'll meet some of the smartest people out there and they'll become a great source of inspiration for you in your own life 3. You will probably fail at least one actuarial exam and when you do, ice cream and 'Move Along' by The All American Rejects will help you get back on track 4. When you're close to becoming a qualified actuary, you get to give advice to your interns on how to tackle exams ;DDDD
Hi Paige nice video! I also worked as an actuarial analyst at Willis towers Watson in pensions. I’m still in the field but with Milliman now. Keep up the good work. Cheers!
I study actuarial science at the University of Connecticut in the US. I’m in my senior year and this is a fantastic video to show what an actuary does daily and what the responsibilities we have are. I’ve done reserves for 2 summers now. Out of curiosity did you use excel or R on this job?
You're amazing. So hard-working and self aware for your age. You're going to go far in life (you already have!). As a PhD student in Japan, I still feel out of depth most of the time
THANK YOU!! I've been looking at becoming an Actuary for a good portion of my college career, and wanted to know what it truly entails. Working at Willis Towers Watson must have been such a great opportunity!
Hi Paige. I've enjoyed your study videos, but I relate much more to this video as a working woman. Good luck for your career and of course for your academic life!
Hello Paige 💗 I really hope you see this one !💝 I am Nitin from India and l developed interest in physics in my class 9 and then I found your channel you motivate me to study harder than I did earlier.I want to get into IIT one of the best institute in india and you really motivate me to fulfil my dream THANKYOU so much💛
Hey Nitin! All the best! I have a question. Have you heard of IISER? I'm studying in the Pune branch :) IISER is great for those who want to get into the sciences and not engineering
Hi Paige! I'm a new master of actuarial science student at CASS. This is a great video for me to get a better picture of how an actuary work in the UK. I hope someday I will have the chance to work as an actuary in the UK like you :) cheers!
Aaaah this reminds me of my apprentice days at a IP Law firm! I was offered the actual job there but I knew it wasn't for me when I started zoning out but it gave me tonnes of experience and confidence. Anyone considering internships, GO FOR IT! It's worth it!
Has the internship helped you to decide what you want to do in the future? I did a research internship this summer and would be happy to share my notes with you as I remember you weren’t sure which one to pick!
Hello Paige! Do you do internships related to what you study at Cambridge ?? Apologies as im very new to all this but do you study a different thing every semester and do internships based on that ?
I got WTW medicare enrolling job and a retail job with neiman marcus. What one should I choose if anyone else has experience? These are both work from home!
HI Paige! I've always been a silent viewer(lol) and very much enjoy your content. I have a question for this video tho😂 why are you interning in actuarial department? Is it related to your natural science courses or are you thinking of becoming an actuary ?
