It is completely normal to have second thoughts. In the end, routine is boring and exhausting. The important thing is to be happy doing what you like and what excites you. The path of medicine is spectacular but there are many other alternatives in the world of medicine than spending 40 hours a week in a hospital and that includes being independent and working part-time as a specialist. Take your time to enjoy what you are living now, I think you are excellent at what you do. Time and day-to-day life will bring you to the right decision. Keep up the good work brother.

I'd second that 1000x! It's been a long road but I'm so happy with the decision that I made in the end. And finishing will only bring you more excitement and fulfillment. Plan ahead the creative ways that you will maintain your schedule and editing content for us. And believe me your 'ride or die' followers are going to still be here rooting you on as you climb! So so proud of you. I'm a pediatric hematology/oncology fellow and still watch ALL your videos on test-taking strategy. Thanks for all you do and congrats on the good marks on your away rotation!!! Lastly, these day-in-the-life videos is a "good look" for you! We all like to see that stuff. -G

When we are young, we think we have the rest of our life. Out of med school, stuck in the monotony is not for everyone.Santiago you are hones5 and very bright old soul. I’m a gynecologist , from India, started my business etc, now in USA for my 2 nd residency but plan to start my next business venture soon. I CHEER FOR U MATE. Life is a journey and you need family and love to keep u afloat, which we easily overlook. Viva la vida my friend.

Hi everyone, I am from south america and I recently started medical residency in the US and I completely understand the second thoughts. It is not easy at all and sometimes you think, is it worth it? Things change and time will never come back, is it worth to be 80+ hours in the hospital? is it worth it to spend most of your time and energy on medicine? Do no take me wrong, I love medicine but sometimes things are not the way that you think. Even though the electronic medical system, the salary and how people treats you are way much better in the US, sometimes that does not make you feel happy. My advise is, think very well before coming here. Sometimes is better to take the easy pathway and be happy than to take the hard pathway just to prove yourself that you are capable of doing i.

Thank you for being so honest about your second thoughts. I'm glad there's at least someone open to talking about it on camera. I'm in medical school as well about to start my clinical years and worried about the hours. I really appreciate it!

Thanks so much for sharing this! I can totally relate as I’ve had the same second thought feelings for a while. I’ve still been undecided for what specialty to do even with doing 2 years of USCE, maintaining my side business, and still working as a medical assistant. Love the aesthetic of this video!

I really appreciate your way of carrying out all of these things …… being your own boss is of course the best. However, you really look like a promising physician and have the potential to be one of the greatest doctors to ever exist ……. Keep going Santiago as you’re inspiring thousands of medical & non-medical students worldwide ….. greatings from Egypt Bro and I really hope the best for you.

I really appreciate your sincerity, it's a really good video. I want to emphasize that a lot of physician may pass for a moment of seconds thoughts about their career, specially when you think about your family and future plans of live, it's okay to question this, see the perspective and follow what your heart wants, so I hope you find your real place in the medical field. Xoxo

I really appreciate this video, there is not much content out there about clinical rotaions for IMGs, also, the talk about "second thoughts" is important but sadly overlooked, hope to hear more about it from you and best wishes Santiago.

Bro, finish, then walk away if you want. If you walk away before you finish you will always have the question in your mind if you made the right choice. That will eat you alive because you'll never be able to get an answer. It will be one of the things you regret on your deathbed. If you finish and then leave, you can always go back. The other dudes on RU-vid who left medicine still introduce themselves with their "medical credentials" because it is their biggest source of pride, even though it is no longer deserved. I can already tell you they will be unhappy in the long run. I learned an important lesson on rotations this month: the perfect practice model only exists if you make it for yourself. Make your decision based on how'd you'd feel at the end of your life, not right now in your 20s.

Wow I just checked the Febrile podcast - - it is brilliant to say the least !! Thank you so much for shedding a light into it. If someone has more recommendations about medical podcasts it would be great I am looking more into IM ones but anything else would be much appreciated too !

I am a PGY1 pediatric resident (IMG) from the Dominican Republic. I can totally understand you! I love medicine and would love to continue with fellowship but at this point I’m not sure if my life goals align with 6 more years of crazy workload and hours😢. You’re not alone in this!

Dear Santiago, I completed a transitional year and then 3 years of IM residency. I watched your videos on RU-vid, skillshare and I think your brilliant, and driven. It is natural to have ups and downs. If you think about the time to commit, then it is daunting. Don't think about the time to allocate to get into residency. Once your in la program then its a rewarding experience. You will meet incredible professionals that will inspire you. You will meet extraordinary residents that share similar struggles that you do. Most importantly you learn the most from the patient and grow. I believe in you and you will get through this. Just push through!

Hello.Santiago .I've been following you since your early beginnings.I appreciate your sincerity.Sometimes I saw you and asked myself why I'm not as good and courageous as you. this makes me realize that we all are humans.regarding your thoughts Who doesn't want to help people? But you know ,the idea is that you make it in your own way.Be that.doctor.you want.to be.Don't forget yourself.Everyone believes that once you decide to follow this pathway you won't be able to do other.things in your life. don't postpone your happiness due to the fear of fulfillment.Good vibes bro.Greetings from Cusco Peru

Are you realizing that now??? Too late, my friend. Medicine is one of the most hardest careers in the world. You make a lot of money, but you have to do a lot BUT A LOT of sacrifices. Try to find the best specialty for you and fight for it. You don't spend that amount of hours in all specialties. Check the ones you like more and get it. Anyways, after your residency, you can open your own business. The other good pathway is research. So, don't discard your intelligence and your years to be where you are at now. Good luck, buddy. You can do it!!!
