So I had to turn it down cause of the music but then I can’t hear you cause you’re whispering. Balancing needed for future ref. Thx for the upload though.
I am a senior ophthalmic technician at medical surgical office that specializes in surgery and eye diseases like the ones you mentioned! I work closely with medical optometrists and ophthalmologists and it’s interesting to see the work flow of a different clinic. I work up patients and scribe for the doctors during exams as well as assist during procedures and perform other testing! So cool to see you training in the process so thank you for sharing!!
I'm currently a optometric technician @ an optometrist clinic, but I want to do more of the medical things, so I might go and see some schooling in the Opthalmology side of things.
Thank you so much for doing this video. I am starting an apprentice ophthalmic Tech program in January so I've been doing lot's and lot's of research. I'm truly excited. I'm glad I came across your video. Please share what's the name of the opening song. Great song choices. I really like the first song. Thanks again! -T. Stokes
Hey there thanks for watching and your lovely comments. The music is linked in description. It’s by public committee on thematic music! I hope you have all success in ophthalmic field!
I'm interviewing for a trainee job any pointers ? I have a background in science and have worked in a lab, in retail and as a special needs assistant i hope this job would allow me to help people and work with people rather than things( lab work can be very mundane and lonely) I am a really people person. i feel excited to learn . learning more about the human body and how it works fascinates me too
@@ChanelQ_ thanks so much for the advice I felt the interview went really well they told me they could see me really enjoying the role and asked when I could start if they choose me. Fingers crossed. I will let you know when I hear x
Hello, I am currently residing in the United States on a J2 dependent visa, as my husband is on a J1 visa. I am interested in taking the Certified Ophthalmic Assistant (COA) exam and would like to inquire whether I can sit for this exam while on a J2 visa. Also, I would like to know how you have prepared for this exam and what are the resources you have used to pass this exam. I would appreciate any guidance or information you can provide regarding taking the COA exam. Thank you for your time and assistance. I look forward to your response.
Hey there your best bet is to visit jcahpo.org where you will find all information needed for the test. I haven’t worked in this field for almost three years so I’m not sure anymore apologies
I'm very jealous of you 🥺...I'm an Eye Technician, and I love the work I do, but the Doctor I work for is a complete jerk. He is EXTREMELY overly critical, and any small mistake sends him into an angry rage. I feel stressed and sick to my stomach going to work. There was a bunch of us new people there, because everyone else had quit, and we were still learning, and because we were new, and we were making little mistakes. He went into an absolute RAGE at the end of the day. I LOVE eye care, but I can't stand working here..
Don’t be jealous, I’m sure you are great at what you do. And every day is a learning day. I hope you find a enter doctor to work for. No one deserves that treatment, I’m sorry friend. :(
I just got hired as a optometric tech and I have NO idea what any equipment are called or anything not even medical terms. I want to have some knowledge on my first day. Do you recommend any apps or anything that helped you?
@@ChanelQ_ Ok, great, will check it out! After looking I see you're working from home now as a referral specialist? I've never heard of that, you have me curious now LoL Thanks for responding! 😊
Hello, thanks for the vid! I am thinking of getting into this, but had a question. Would you say this is a stressful job or were the patients mean? Thanks!
Hey there, so like all jobs working with people there are going to be mean patients or customers. Not every day is the same, sometimes people are super nice and sometimes they aren't. Theres stress as well but just depends on how well you can put up with things and if you are willing because you love what you do.
Optometrist is a doctor who specializes in primary vision care for the eyes. They can disgnose diseases as well but normally don’t treat serious cases, they would send to an ophthalmologist who would treat them. And an ophthalmology technician would be that doctors assistant. They have a little more responsibility than a regular optometric tech.
What are the requirements to become an opthalmic technician? I'm currently an optician and I'm trained with the manual lensometer, auto-lensometer, auto-refractor, pupilometer, tonometer, and the tracer machine. Is the work similar or do I need to complete college for this?
No schooling , I got in off pst experience in pharmacy tech and retail. I will say it helps tho, you’ll probably learn quicker. And the main difference is we do more clinical than opticians do. We don’t really work with glasses except reading lenses. Everything else is clinical’ sounds like you would make a smooth transition! I’d consider it for sure
I literally start tomorrow! I’m so new to everything! Any tips is welcome! I’m so nervous! Ahh! 😭🤍 I’m an artist, with no medical background that grew interest in this field.

This is the perfect opportunity for you, it's the intersection of eyes, patients, and applied science. How much patient interaction you have/ conversations is really up to you. Best of luck! -a tech from the Houston area
