YAY! Another day in the life of a nurse vlog for y’all! I’m taking my pre-reqs come fall at a community college and I am so excited. Now I’m indecisive between specializing in dermatology or surgery. I still have awhile but nonetheless I’m excited. Nursing has sooooo many options. It’s so much you can do with a nursing degree.

How do you keep your makeup on while wearing a mask? I hate wearing them because it takes my makeup off.

it does take some of it off, but I don't usually mind. Using a primer and a setting spray helps a lot :)

Wow!!!! A lot has changed since I last visited your page...I was hired into the OR in October 2019 and it has been a long, hard, trying but at times rewarding journey...I am at the tail end of my orientation...its an interesting environment...but I am keeping at it

@@lalypop449 yes I enjoy being in the OR!!! It has it's stresses but it's not like when I was used to be a Med/Surg nurse for 3 years. Now I am almost 3 years into my OR nursing career and I wouldn't change it for the world

Girl, you make me question my goal of getting an ICU new grad residency, because I love surgery SO much and I always got along with surgeons when I shadowed during my first undergrad. Who knows maybe I will just apply to both types of residencies and leave the rest up to God. Do you find OR nurses in your hospital or ones you have met are able to switch over to ICU if they want to or vice versa ICU-OR?

yes! you can always switch it up if you don't like it!! you could switch either way! But yes I would apply to both and go from there! :)

Megan p not a nurse but of course you can wear makeup if you want. Nail color would depend on where you work and how strict their rules are (used to be a CNA before PA school)

I want to become an OR Nurse myself. My question is, are facial piercings an issue? Obviously if it is i have no problem taking out my eyebrow for my career lol but I was just curious.

Karolina Petrone it depends on the hospital, everywhere is different. My hospital does not allow facial piercings except for nose studs. But that’s for all personnel, not just us in the OR

How long have you been taking Spironolactone? I was on it and within 3 months I gained 10 pounds. I am a athletic built and had to work my ass off to lose the weight I'd gain. Be careful.

Interesting because it’s a diuretic so it’s supposed to make you pee (usually used for hypertension and congestive heart failure) so it’s usually the opposite of weight gain.

Talesha La'shae I’m currently a surg tech in nursing school! In our environment you get so much closer with your coworkers than in other fields. My nurses have become some of my best friends and I am so close with them! That chemistry not only makes for a fun and easy day, but also provides for best patient care because you have great working chemistry with them.

Talesha La'shae I dropped down to per diem and make my own schedule. I work as much as I can handle or as little as two shifts a month. My management is really awesome. Plus the school of nursing is at the same hospital so that adds a huge level of convenience!

Sophie BB that’s what I said :p I’m in PA school as well and we only talked about it in cardiac not in derm. I’m thinking it’s off label for acne and probably is from the MOA or a side effect of it.

Interesting about Spironolactone. Not because I have acne (although I get some stress spots from school now) but because I’m in PA school and if I hear something specific it’s easier to make the connection. Maybe it’s used off label for acne because it wasn’t in our derm module, only in our cardiac module since it’s a diuretic. But sometimes side effects of things can make it useful for other things. Or maybe the MOA so I’ll have to look back at it! Just to see :) I love learning little things like this. Update: studying for my comprehensive didactic exam and It does say under moderate acne you can use spironolactone. :) now I will remember it even better.
