Thank you for posting this.I am sick and tired of those who say we are all lazy.If that's the case, then who's cleaning 25 classrooms,4 bathrooms, teachers room, stairways, shoveling snow, lunch duties, dealing with contractors, and so on?
Just started my 2 week here in the PNW I’m loving it it makes me so proud when I know I’ve done a good job even if others don’t care to much it’s a hell of a lot better for my back than being a mover
Believe me SCHOOL CUSTODIANS work hard , and are treated as if they are never doing their jobs right . I Thank all the school Teachers who have worked with their school Janitors to keep their schools clean , the beast Principals have been those evaluate you fairly .
Thank you for this. I myself am a public school district custodian, and it is not the easiest. It is also the furthest from glamorous... But you gotta do what you gotta do. And, I'm not sure a majority of people even think of our job, we are kinda invisible. However, I will say My favorite part of my job is helping out and putting the teachers I clean for at ease. That part is really rewarding. 😄
Your do right, I am s custodian as well, we are working short handed as a result if budget cuts, but the crew we have is amazing! Thank you for your hard work!
I work food service, I like to just do the job and keep to myself without the chit chat, I hope that my new custodial job allows me to work with few people and more independently
I was a custodian, until the school committee voted to outsource our department. It wasn't about saving money it was about stomping on the little guy and busting the union. This country is falling apart because of greed and nobody caring about the other guy. All you people in a position of power be careful what you wish for, not only are you hurting the custodians and their family you're hurting the kids and the community. It's for the kids right?
What the guy said from 2:55-3:17 hit me right where I'm at right now. Lost a job driving a City Bus making good money. After I was terminated 2-3 other coworkers were also fired. It's no joke, some places don't have the job security anymore. They move you out for any little thing and bring someone else at half the pay minus the full time benefits.
I've worked in several different schools and now at a university as a custodian. I work primarily 2nd shift occasionally on first shift and sometimes 3rd shift. It always seems like first shift is usually the easiest. Where I work at now most first shifts have about 3 hours worth of work to do in an eight hour shift. While second shift has at least a solid 6 hours worth of work and that's if your moving at a good pace. first shifters are lazy.
My freand is a Custodian in one world financial center in new york, we works floors 5-45 and up I think he is 18 and works for ABM. He could move to One WTC when its done but he is going to move on to big and better things like a building super.
we should be the humble rock star to be happy . maybe that only makes sense to me . life is attitude including cleaning up after todays children. we have to chain the dumpsters so kids don't push them down the hill. to a kid that is funny . ok its funny to me too.
The custodian pissed me off in High School, we would eat lunch outside and the wind would blow all the garbage to the corner of the courtyard we hung out at. The custodian thought we were just throwing our trash on the ground and banned us from eating outside.
dawg i am a janitor and its ass the place i work at only has one (me) and they dont clean when im not there bc im 18 and still in high school and my manager breathes down my neck and i also have two 2 managers. yes 2 ppl telling me different shit to do. my store is nasty as fuck too
Oh and Les (less than a man) i was a janitor from my late teens to my early 20s. Before i stopped being a looser and earned a REAL trade. no union needed. I have real skills. Men with real skills don't worry about job security.
@padude64 yea the parents are ignorant i work at a school the parents and the children don't have any respect for the custodians one parent cursed one of the custodians out cause he asked him to close the door behind him and the parent told juan he was a lazy custodian and i'm like how you lazy and you cleaning up after they kids i was so mad.
well it depends if you are an actual school employee or a contracted custodian. i was lucky enough to be hired by the school district in the md 70s, and we made a decent wage(it was a little over 17 dollars an hour when i retired 3 years ago) but unfortunately now most schools only use outside contracted custodians, and they pay them peanuts (8-9 dollars an hour). they have a very high turnover rate, because people aren't going to stick around if something better comes along, and i don't blame them!!
I have no idea where else to go to ask a question to other custodians so here's my issue. I clean an elementary school alongside one other person, I go in 1 pm and I can do maybe 3 rooms before school is out. At 3 pm my partner comes in and we begin cleaning our classrooms, we have until 8 pm to clean the school and we just aren't able to for whatever reason we are always stuck there for an hour after our shift should have ended. I don't believe we spend too much time on our tasks, in fact I don't think we spend enough time with them. We get in trouble for being there late, but we also get into trouble if we don't get it finished. I have asked my boss what we might be doing wrong or what we could do different but she only compares us to her previous staff which does not help us. I do know that something is wrong when we almost never get to mop an entire classroom floor but we still can't get out by 8. Any advice out there? Thanks.
This is the most disgusting job I have did in my life I have been cleaning bathroom now for four years it's really disgusting I got fired because I didn't clean the toilet really good because the managers treat their employees like shit
Hell yea. Just this summer i left being a bricklayer for 15 years to do custodial maintenance at a nursing home for less than a 3rd the pay. But I love my my job and life again.
All custodians if a wage freeze is asked, take it, because we do not want to see anyone lose their jobs! We MUST be together on this! The republicans then talk about gays as an entity! Gays are not the entity, it is over population! The bigotry needs to stop and now!
