I fixed the situation completely by putting my washer and drier in my walk-in closet when my wife and I were designing our house...but then we also have a mudroom where a normal utility or laundry room would go with an ice machine for them hot Texas summers.

You can mix peppermint essential oil and water (to dilute) and put it in a spray bottle. Spray that around entrances every couple of days or so and it will deter most insects and spiders from where you spray.

Jordan, there's extendable poles with suction cups you use to replace those bulbs. No ladder or stool tower of doom required. Spiders can still drop on you though, you might want to keep your mouth shut when changing bulbs.
