That’s great that you work for Novo Nordisk. The novo pen echo was perfect when I first diagnosed and wanted more precision with dosing to the nearest half unit. @@LauraCravenOfficial the video showed so much control over your blood glucose level that over time it must minimise damage to your body. Even though normal people release insulin it doesn't mean that our bodies control it as well as you are doing in the video.

It took a lot of trial and error for me to figure out the right insulin:carb ratio and length of prebolus to master eating pasta. The pasta in this video is made of chickpea flour and has less carbs than regular pasta, which definitely helps my blood sugar. Komoka Provincial Park is one of my favourites 😊 I’m glad you liked it! T1D is a lot of work and we never get to take a break. I do not feel my Libre sensor when I sleep. The Libre does not have alarms when you sleep, unlike the dexcom, so if night time lows or highs are something you are concerned about you may want a different CGM. There are lots of options out there 😊

I’m glad you found this helpful 😊 Yes, I was started on fast acting insulin and long acting insulin right away. Everyone is different and some people are still making some insulin at diagnosis, called the honeymoon phase. I was never told to eat low carb. I was given some suggestions of how many carbs to have at each meal. Mine were 30 g for breakfast, 50 g for lunch, 50 g for dinner, and up to 30 g for snacks or dessert. I stay within these limits 99% of the time and take more insulin when I want to have more carbs.

I'm so glad that you learned something new 😊 The low blood sugar while driving is only for diabetics. Low blood sugar can change your response time, cause confusion, and in extreme cases can cause seizures and loss of consciousness. I always make sure I check my blood sugar before driving to make sure I'm not putting myself or others in danger. You can actually be charged if you are diabetic and are caught driving with low blood sugar. My studies are going very well. I will be finished my PhD on April 1st. I will let my sister know that next time we hang out she will have to entertain me instead hahaha I love that idea 😊

This was a chill day while I was in graduate school. I have finished now and work full time. It took a lot of effort to adjust to managing diabetes while working a full time job. I find it difficult to pre-Bolus at work or stick to as strict of a schedule.

@@LauraCravenOfficial for me eating a predictable meal such as packing lunch makes a difference but it is impossible to eat at the same time each day pumping has made my glucose levels more stable and I require less insulin now

Hello Cris! I am Canadian and while I lived in Canada I was spending close to $3000 CAD per year on diabetes supplies and prescriptions. I know it is much cheaper than the expenses in America, but it is still a lot of money to have to pay. I’ve since moved to the UK where my insulin pump and prescriptions are fully covered by the NHS. It has been a relief to no longer have to pay for these things. Hope you’re doing well and wishing you good health too 💙

@Sarah Garrett Basically do an air shot with usually 2 units to fill the needle with insulin and making sure that the pen and needle is working properly before you dial your dose and inject. If not priming the pen you’ll have air inside the needle and while it’s very small amounts, it can be enough to make a difference in the delivered insulin dose, especially if you’re taking a very small dose. Say for example you need to take just one unit (or even half a unit if having a pen that does half units as well) and you don’t prime the pen and needle prior to injection, then you’ll really just get air and little to no insulin at all actually injected into you.

I was diagnosed as an adult (25 years old) and I’ve been living with T1D for about 1.5 years. The quality of life with T1D is greater than being an organ transplant recipient, so they typically would not transplant a pancreas in patients with T1D except in extreme circumstances or if the patient needs an additional organ transplant. It looks like there is some promising research transplanting Beta Islet cells from the pancreas that make insulin. Hopefully one day soon there will be a cure. I will always hope for T1D tips & updates from you - at least through the camera lens, you look like you have it together, it's really comforting - even though reality is never so simple. I hope you are able to get back to making travel content once covid calms down, I really enjoyed the video of the failed campsite (camping at Rock Lake) - Until this year I would travel to the outback (of Australia). Sleep in my wagon, motels, tents & most recently a little caravan.. which backfired horribly because the caravan park had a black out... but that's all in the fun of camping right? Thank you again - I force myself to look on the bright side and realise at least I can keep googling information while my mind races, not long ago people would only have to wait for a doctor to get information and try to remember what the Doc said.. Sorry for this TL;DR - just know your videos (even the travel ones!) & your reply helped!

I hope to get back to travel and camping too! I’ve really missed it this year. Looking on the bright side takes practice and patience. I’m thankful that diabetes feels easier to manage now than it did in the beginning. I’m so happy to hear that my videos have helped you 😊 there are lots of great diabetes resources on the internet and I did a lot of my own research too when I was first diagnosed. I don’t have everything together all the time 🤪, but I put in a lot of effort to keep my A1c low and still eat the foods I enjoy and do the activities I love. Everything comes with practice!

I have 3 meals a day and I take between 15-25 units insulin total depending on the time of day and exercise planned.

There is a pinch when inserting the Libre. It doesn’t hurt when I take readings and I often don’t even notice it’s there.

I like to bolus for 75% of the carbs before I eat the pizza and 25% an hour and a half later. I still usually end of doing a correction a couple hours later too. I like to go for a walk a couple hours after eating pizza to help prevent the delayed high 😊

That sounds so frustrating. I try upping my basal when I have highs that last all day. Hoping your sugars come down soon 💙

Slow digestion which releases sugars continuously after 2 hours and insensitivity also contribute so talk to doctor

That was the Freestyle Libre Scanner. The Libre can also be scanned with a smart phone.

Yes I am Canadian. The cost of supplies for me depended on whether or not I had health insurance. I was diagnosed when I was a student and 80% of my prescriptions were covered with my university plan. I still had to pay about $1500 out of pocket in a year. I had a period of 6 months where I had no insurance and had to pay out of pocket for everything and it cost about $350 per month for my insulin, freestyle Libre sensors, lancets, and test strips.
