@@arckeeper0016 “None of the dragons are actually completed in the past 14 months” A quote from dev blog#9 on Steam “The Acid Spitter is nearly 100% animated! There are just a handful of animations that need to be completed. Once they are, we will begin to polish those animations.” (Source at bottom of post.) Though if you meant that none of the 3 base dragons (not including the ice wyvern) are finished, then that would be true. I’d also like to point out that Karly didn’t get hired until about spring of 2020, so before that, they didn’t have an animator and thus had to focus on the other aspects of the game. For additional info; the reason for such a long wait after the Kickstarter ended was that the animator they were looking at hiring had a contract that was supposed to expire in December 2019. @@arckeeper0016 as I said, I was quoting what had been said, no reason to resort to accusing me of spreading misinformation when you claimed that barely any progress has been made. While it’d be nice to have the memory of an elephant or machine, not everyone is like that. Also, plenty of people especially in these times do lots of part-time jobs, and while having Karly on board full-time would be nice. To quote: “Q:Is Karly, the animator, working full time on the game? A: No. Karly has always been a part-time animator for Day of Dragons. This is not due to budget restrictions as some have claimed, but due to her limited availability. If her availability changes, we'd love to have her as a full-time animator.” There is absolutely nothing wrong with having someone hired on part-time as it’s very normal, even before Covid hit. @@arckeeper0016 they didn’t make the rough estimate of Q1 for Genesis, which is as it is, a rough estimate and not an exact deadline. “This amazing roadmap, made by the talented Nicole Steinbacher and edited by our own Lead Dev Jao, shows our plans for the next round of large updates.” Planning doesn’t mean an exact deadline, it’s what they intend to accomplish. An exact deadline would be a specific day within a month which the roadmap doesn’t state. I’m utilizing public information, so it’s not misinformation as anyone can read these dev blogs. Something with an exoskeleton like that does not look like it should breathe like it does imo. Insects dont have lungs which is why you dont see them with a jelly like back like the one yall made. Realism is always worth it if you want immersion lol

@@arckeeper0016 there’s been no confirmation that it got pushed back by a year, while they didn’t make the rough estimate of Q1, the roadmap will need to be updated. So until a rough estimate is confirmed by the devs, I don’t recommend going around saying it got delayed by a year when there’s no confirmation of that.

@@TheGuppies27ESF I mean at the rate things are going, I would say a year is pretty forgiving. Shadow scale has been hyped for months now, and still isn’t complete. The other two free dragons have barely been touched. Yet now they are working on a baby food bug instead, with only one part time animator? They still haven’t fixed the current issues with the Acid Spitter in the beta either. And that costs additional money. So yea...it seems pretty accurate at this point.

@@sadiesnail In the announcement on the Discord, a big upcoming announcement was included in the post with this video link. Will come later in the week in a dev blog. Jao also made mention in the Kickstarter chat “if you all think we need to hire a fulltime animator to speed up production, you will want to read our next devblog” so it may address the pace of animations. @@arckeeper0016 Part of the reason some of the development has taken so long is because it wasn’t until sometime spring of 2020 that an animator (Karly) got hired. The devs waited on an animator who didn’t yet have an opening and during Winter of 2019 iirc, Jao had said that if they couldn’t get the animator they were looking at, they’d hire someone else. Come spring 2020, Karly got hired and started work. Sure she’s a Disney animator, but that doesn’t mean she’s have to learn how to animate from complete scratch. She’d just have to learn to adjust to making animations for a game rather than a film which from my understanding isn’t too drastically different. Also, we won’t know for sure should another animator be hired if they’re a movie animator or not. I doubt someone who is brand new to animation would be hired as 1) Jao values high quality, so someone new to animating wouldn’t have much a portfolio 2) hiring someone who’s new to animation would waste way more time than hiring someone like Karly who has experience with animation. As for “barely doing anything”, the only dragons without concept art are the fire and ice behemoths. Every other dragon has a finished concept and so far the ones with game-ready models are: Shadow Scale, Flame Stalker, Inferno Ravager, Acid-Spitter, and the Singe Crest. Animation-wise, while the Acid-Spitter has all it’s basic animations done, they are wip and not yet final. The Shadow Scale has a good amount of wip animations and will get the rest of them for open test on the beta branch. AI has been in the works as according to the official Twitter account, the first iteration of nesting is in the beta branch along with stats and skin crafting which a white skin and a black skin can possibly result in an oreo skin, mutation points, a social panel with groups and a clan system, there’s also been custom nests for each dragon breed, effects, rag doll corpses, corpse dragging, and a very wip map. If none of that is progress, then I don’t know what is. @@arckeeper0016 firstly, development takes time and depending on how things are, even triple A games take over 2 or more years to even finish. Some of the DoD team are new to making a game, so a slow pace is to be expected. It also takes time to polish said development, making sure that bugs are squashed, visuals looked over and so on and so forth. Development is a broad term that can also include conceptualizing what kind of game, what features should be in it, what kind of setting it should have, etc. The reason for the state of the beta branch is because it was what the devs had on hand at the time that is in a playable state. However, there also was a server up with the game-ready models which are yet to be in a state enough to be playable. - Secondly, the alpha version doesn’t have status effects. That, as mentioned in dev blog#6, “There will be a large variety of status effects in the game, with the first ones being released in our "Genesis" update. While which ones that are going to be included has not been finalized” Source: store.steampowered.com/newshub/app/1088090/view/2740955655356020799 - Thirdly, the KOSing on the server with the game-ready models specifically was the only one up with the wip things in-game. The KOSing was preventing players from observing what progress is in that particular server and having PvE servers also allowed players to pick which to play on as both will be a server option for server owners. - Fourthly, due to how long development is taking, it’s expected that players won’t be as actively playing as updates are what keep players playing most games, though especially games like this where things will continue to be added down the line.

Spicy Meatball:tm: I saw the Thornback running around on stream yesterday and it looked awesome! Its behaviour makes it seem real and gives a legitimate food challenge rather than just a walking drumstick like 70% of other survival games with AI. Can't wait till the Spicy Meatball Scrab gets in too. Now that the AI base is done, adding in the Scrab will be a breeze!
