In my opinion this is the ultimate zombie film. Top notch special effects and the soundtrack is brilliant. R.I.P Joseph Pilato. Great review as always guy's. We've been spoilt this week.

I feel bad for Miguel in a sense - he’s a truly broken man. I agree that Dr “Frankenstein” is a confident egotistical goader and example of the road to hell is made with good intention, so I kinda empathize a bit with Rhodes when he calls him out for killing his soldiers. But it’s Sarah who is the truly realistic and sympathetic one.

Love this film! And the zombie-fx is just mindblowing. Trivia: The science-assistant who get shot in the head by Rhodes, is played by John Amplas from MARTIN (1978). Took a while before I recognised him.

Like the reviewer in the video, I too had to see it multiple times to really appreciate this third entry into Romero’s Living Dead trilogy. This is a very good zombie horror film. I can tell the entire cast and crew worked very hard making it.

The gore effects are just...Damn. The characters suffer a lot. I also love the soundtrack, I'm sure if you listened to Gorillaz's song M1A1, you will recognize the opening. Easily one of the best Trilogies ever made.

41:08 Actually the high pitched voice would be pretty realistic - if you stretch out the vocal cords, the voice will pitch up. So if anyone would try to rip your head off, you will sound like this (it is the same effect if you tune a string instrument). BTW - OUTSTANDING WORK GUYS!!! THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR ALL OF YOUR ENTERTAINING AND INSIGHTFUL VIDEOS!!!

There are a few things about the practical effects in this movie (and others) that bother me, looking back. While most of the gore here was over the top and really well executed, I hate when bodies are getting ripped apart and you see the skin stretching like playdough. I know it's rubber prosthetics, but it takes me right out of it when I see that. The skin would pull apart much sooner than the rubber we see in these effects. Also, when the actor isn't angled correctly on the floor and it's so obvious that the body being dismembered isn't his own. That was not a problem as much in this film except right at that last shot where Sarge or whatever his name is got ripped apart. The other body dismemberments were great, but that one was so fake looking, coupled with elastic skin. haha

That’s what sucks about watching older films with high-definition viewing quality: special effects become much more scrutable, even if you realized that before all that.

this is my view of the ending. Sarah's dreams play a big part through the whole film. When she is on the beach at the end she is reliving what happened, the hands coming out of the helicopter are the dream part, hence they really escaped and ended up on the island at the end.

I didn't like this one when I first saw it, then I waited about a day and realized, this is one of the best films I've ever seen! Perfect special effects and I think i like the music better than Dawn. ( I didn't much like the ending, and I kinda wish it was less black and white, though.) But this has the *perfect* Zombies, not too gross and impractical, verry scary and unstoppable, other zombie movie makers need to watch these movies.

I love Day of the Dead, for me each of the original trilogy has it's superior aspects, from sheer originality, or effects, or story, but Dawn and Day for me are so close, because I saw Day /first/. I remember picking up a VHS double pack with Day and for some reason a coloured in version of Night of the Living Dead, and the colouring was so awful, it really put me off the movie at first, so I just had Day to watch over and over again. I love all the over the top acting, I sympathise with all of them only Rhodes is of course at the bottom, being the villain in my mind, but imagine being locked down there for years, with Squadies and being /trapped/ for all that time, for me that's the explanation for the so called bad acting here and there, I mean most of them are insane in their own way, like Steele, by how he dies and from the 'Bang, you're dead!' moment, I think he was the least arseholey of them all, but being surrounded by shall we say, more natural arseholes, he just went along with it to keep his status and release his stress, resulting in like most of them, utter madness. Even Miguel, I see the point with him and Stephen from Dawn, but then some people handle stress better, add to that the dogtags round his neck, being stuck between Rhodes and Sarah in terms of loyalty and him being unable to handle any of it, pushed beyond breaking point, yup he turns into an arsehole more or less at some point before the Movie, because Sarah's not a fool, she loved him for a reason and you can see the mounting disappointment in him, as well as wanting him to get his shit together and help them. I could rattle on about this and Dawn etc all day. Awesome review as always guys. The first one I watched was The Woman in Black, being such a Nigel Kneale fan, and you loved it as much as I did, Any chance of some Hammer Horror reviews at some point? :) Unless I've just missed them somewhere lol.

Day use to be my favorite out of Romero's Series. Use to think Night and Dawn were overrated by fans. Day had a awesome soundtrack. Best looking zombies out of any movie, all diff types; brides, clown, musician, etc! Best Gore and Gore fest at the end! But now... I think I love Dawn better. Dawn is so fun to watch! I can watch Dawn over and over again. Day actually gets boring cuz it is a depressing movie with such long drag out dialogue scenes that you could cut in half to get the point. Survival and Diary.... i pretend they don't exist..... And Land is its own thing in the Dead Series .....

Yeah, agreed. I think for the reasons you give it has something of a John Carpenter's _The Thing_ feel to it. There's nowhere for them to go, and they start going a bit crazy and end up fighting each other as much as they're fighting the zombies. I know that there are some people who don't think Sara is an interesting character, but holy cow, I don't know what movie those people are watching. She reminds me so much of Jill Valentine (I guess in the reverse sense since Sara came first, but regardless) from Resident Evil 3 on. She is obviously tired, experiencing some serious PTSD, and just trying to hold it together. Her character growth moments throughout the film, such as the moment when she is talking with Terry Alexander's character, John, or the scene when she has to cut off Miguel's arm, the scene where she starts crying, the nightmare sequences. They all show a woman who is trying so hard to acclimate to this world, but is struggling with it. I wish Hollywood still wrote female characters like this.

I could see Day of the Dead being 3 hours long !!!! It wouldn't have been a 3 hour long "Epic" like Dawn Of The Dead basically was but I definitely wouldn't of minded seeing the first hour of Day being just the 3 main characters in that abandoned Florida city for the first hour of the film searching for survivors & maybe even a scene of them in the Everglades were we get to see a character or zombies get eaten by Alligators !!!!! That would be badass & then not introducing our villain Captain Rhodes until a hour into the movie when the finally reach their unground base!!!! I could have definitely enjoyed that !!!! Dawn Of The Dead on the other hand really didn't need to show anything else because it pretty much showed us everything that it needed to even tho I would have enjoyed anything they added maybe like a scene of the news room getting wiped out by zombies and a scene of the main characters exploring the basement of the mall kinda like the scene in the boiler room upstairs of the mall where that's a random security zombie just creeping in the shadows , that would have been cool & maybe a extended scene introduction of the biker gang like 20 minutes of just them hanging out at their camp on the road & introducing all of those characters a bit more with dialogue & to show how they live on the road through the apocalypse!!!! As far as Night Of The Living Dead , I really wouldn't change much other than for definitely seeing a flashback scene of Ben at the Diner & seeing it get overrun by zombies & seeing the gas truck explode that he was talking about!!!! Ali maybe a bit longer cemetery chase scene of Barbara running from Zombie 1# & maybe showing her hiding in the bushes & behind tombstones from the zombie or something like before she eventually runs & locates the farm house , and maybe a scene of all the main characters eating together whatever food was in that refrigerator & actually seeing them all bond somewhat for a short period of time with some new dialogue!!!! Or possibly even a scene of Ben & Cooper actually going back to the cemetery to find Johnny's car but then getting overrun by zombies & having to fight their way back to the house leading directly to the scene where Cooper locks Ben outside!!!!! Or maybe just a extra minute of Tom & Judy's burnt remains getting devoured from the truck!!! But That's really the only things I could think of adding to any of these three films tbh that would make any real logical sense in being added to the running time of each film!!!!

@kramalerav
@kramalerav Год назад
Yes. Some fans deride the character for being overly whiney. But the actor did a great job portraying the character where the performance implies a good backstory. Before the apocalypse, Miguel was probably a wealthy sophisticated type who led an adventurer playboy lifestyle. An arrogant ladies man. But when the shit really went down, he signed up into service to survive..and then found out what he was truly made of; and he completely deteriorated when confronted with the grim realities of societal collapse.

The lowest grossing film in George A. Romero's "Dead" trilogy. Nonetheless, it's gained a cult following over the last three decades. The alarm sound heard is the same one from The Thing (1982). On the special edition DVD, director George A. Romero claims this is his favourite film out of the original "dead trilogy". Most of the zombie extras in this film were Pittsburgh residents who volunteered to help in the film. Real pig intestines were used during the gore scenes. During Miguel's sedation, Lori Cardille told Anthony Dileo Jr. to actually slap her to make it look more authentic. During the opening dream sequence when zombie arms attack Sarah through the wall, one of them was Lori Cardille's husband. In Night of the Living Dead (1968) no one survived from the house. In Dawn of the Dead (1978), Peter and Francine survive. In this film, Sarah, John and McDermott survive Right after Logan tells the zombie that it needs to sit in the dark and think about what it did, and punishes it by turning off the light, a little bit of the "The Gonk" music from Dawn of the Dead (1978) can be heard in the transition of scenes. Pat Logan, who played Uncle Rege in Night of the Living Dead (1990) appears as a Bald Mustachioed Zombie shot by Steel in the mines. The book Dr. Logan gives to Bub is Stephen King's "Salem's Lot." George A. Romero and King have been friends for many years.

This was the only one of these Romero films I'd seen up until maybe2004. I rented this from the back catalogue at whatever company had currently tried to conglomerate and revitalize the movie rental industry competitors of blockbuster as both died. But the cover grabbed me and wow, what a film, must have watched it five times before I returned it. Caught the other ones eventually, but they yeah, they still have hope. great movie.

Yeah! Zombies sporting all manners of clothing to showcase just how big the apocalypse was is one of my favourite zombie movie tropes. And onde that, for some weird reason, almost never os done!!!!! Like, I do HATE Resident Evil Apocalypse having the zombies all the zombies from the base wearing the same coveralls, that one is probably the worst offender ever, but, for instance, I don't remember a single organically and memorably dressed zombie in the Walking Dead show. (up until I stopped watching, at least) Or, to call out that dreadful(ly annoying) film that should not be mentioned, in world war z the movie.

Blink and you'll miss Joe Pilato as Jack Rabbit Slim's Dean Martin impersonator in Pulp Fiction!

I remember as a kid the first time I saw this on TV. Intro sequence starts up, I'm hooked, but then that fucked-face zombie pops up with the title and I'm like "NOPE. NOT READY FOR THIS SHIT." Now it's one of my favorite horror movies ever and I watch it every Halloween (or if I get sick in the summer, not sure why lol)

Give it up to Rickles man. Laughter was the dude’s last coping mechanism and he clung to it for as long he could, until it hurt too much.

The only thing I don't like about this film is the totally abrupt ending that comes from nowhere.

Bub is the only zombie I would ever feel sorry for in a zombie movie. His expression when he sees the dead doctor just makes you feel sorry for him. It's an okay movie I think for the series. I agree with your thoughts for this movie and it's series up this point. Wonder what is up next for your reviews. Return of the Living Dead, or something else? Either way, I have a feeling I might enjoy it! :)

I can still remember that alligator from the beginning of the movie, he clearly had its mouth taped shut
