12 June 2024 - The sixth and final evening in Roma was another treat for the fans!
As customary on the final day, the relay races provided plenty of excitement on the track. Italy’s squad, including individual 100m champion Marcell Jacobs, was victorious in the men’s 4x100m, and the British women took the gold, making it two for Dina Asher-Smith and finally a gold for Daryll Neita who narrowly missed out over 200m the day before. Femke Bol and the Dutch team triumphed in the women’s 4x400m race and Alexander Doom brought it home for the Belgian men’s quartet.
Over the middle distances, Norwegian Jakob Ingebrigtsen made it a double gold at these championships with a confident win over 1500m, while British 800m runner Keely Hodgkinson defended her 800m title. Switzerland’s Dominic Lokinyomo Lobalu secured a gold in the men’s 10000m race.
On the field, three events closed the championships. In the pole vault, Mondo Duplantis, in a league of his own as usual, took the title, jumped 6.10m and had three close attempts at a new world record. In the women’s long jump, German Malaika Mihambo won gold; silver went to rising Italian star Larissa Iapichino, much to the joy of the home crowd.
German javelin thrower Julian Weber was in the lead from his first attempt right until the final round, when Czech Jakub Vadlejch came up with the winning throw.

It's not the PBs in the 4x100 that are important, but the partials. Tortu in the 4x100 in Tokyo ran 8,845, which is a time that in the relay people like Brommell, Coleman, Omanyala, Su Bingtian, Simbine etc etc have never run or even come close to. Yesterday he ran in 9.05, giving up the last 10 meters and even opening his arms. Tortu is a relay monster. Probably if there was an athletics race of 120-150 meters starting from a flying start Tortu would be on the podium in the world.

I was slightly surprised to hear comments on the 1500-meter race. To be honest, there's no recipe to beat Ingebrigtsen for these guys, and it doesn't matter what they do; he will win. And when you say they let him control the race, you know better than anyone that it's more difficult to win from the front than from behind. Bol was just cruising like it was a morning jog. Like a light training to warm up a bit. It looked like she was not even running at 60%. Because she knew that the win was already theirs the moment she took the baton.

The 400m european champion who run a PB of 48.98 didn't use a good strategy in that last leg she run every curve from 2nd lane that made her run at least 407 meters and got herself exhausted in last 100m
