Come and visit Central Texas. Somehow, Tex-Mex cuisine embraced a wonderful Puerto Rican dish, Carne Guisada. Breakfast Tacos or a plateful with Beans, Rice & Tortillas. I love it for any meal of the day.
El Paso native!! Thank you for not representing our city as *country cowboy county.* we have a very rich Mexican culture that most media coverage overlooks. And don't insult us with Tex-Mex!
Really happy you did an episode here, I never knew about this channel but I just got this video recommended to me in my feed this morning. If you ever come back check out some of the cultural/community events they have going on downtown in San Jacinto Plaza 😁
Man those are only the amazing places to visit. The individual stories of everyone in El Chuco is something else. The stories about El Barrio and others like it can literally be made into a colorful film. My own family is a reservoir of stories that'd be beautiful, intense, and magical to watch in the silver screen. love you guys for showing my home and the people some love. it's extremely underrated. Bless up!!!
Wow was this thorough. Missed fortis, but this was such a professional well done video. As an el pasoan I didn’t even know half these places existed. Great work!
I lived in EP 2013-2017 and loved it. I didn't realize this was a throw-back episode and thought, "Yay! The tramway is open again!" No such luck... permanently closed. I never even tried Chico's... heard too many horror stories! My go-to place was Kiki's Restaurant. Also, if you like history, the Historic Mission Trail is great. I used to bike the length of the trail back in the day!
Excellent El Paso showcase! You need to take a short trip across to Juarez, yo will find interesting places just a few steps in once you cross trough the downtown Juarez-El Paso international bridge.
I live in El Paso, and I've never been to some of these places, lol. I been on the tramway and of course Chicos Tacos. I need to check out the Aztec caves.
I have lived in El Paso and surrounding area most of my life, there are great places to visit and good food if you know where to look. El Paso has an amazing cost of living a dollar goes a long way. It's funny to me that most people who visit or even live here just see what was shown in this video. This video makes El Paso look like a dry depressing desert. Come to the Westside of El Paso, upper valley is beautiful and lush due to it being along the Rio Grande, not including the country club, etc. Great restaurants from Sunset street to Cimarron area. Take the old country road towards Las Cruces and all you see is beautiful homes and farmland and vineyards not including the quaint town of Old Mesilla with tons of history and good food. My family and myself love to travel and El Paso helps us afford that due to the low cost of living not to mention we have a decent international airport.
Dude you missed out not going to cattleman's at indian ridge ranch it's 30 minutes east but every el pasoan has taken the drive out there for special occasions
@@stf7777 Chico's is not exactly Mexican food, but El Paso cuisine invented in El Paso. There is also similar restaurants like Chico's in Mansfield, TX and at one time in Austin, TX.
Chicos “tacos” is just gross nothing Mexican in there It’s just a tortilla roll like what we call in Mexico a “flauta” covered in fake yellow cheese and dipped in tomato sauce. That is gross I don’t know why they call them a taco when a taco is made out of corn tortilla, meat of your choice, lettuce, onions, cucumber, salsa, sour cream, and lime juice.
I've got some Hispanic friends that freaking love it. I'll give it to you. It's a strange taco. They're typically called tacos tapatio when rolled. Or flautas. Or taquitos when bought in the frozen food section.
Not-so-fun fact about it: it started in Cd. Juárez and had great success once it crossed the border into El Paso. It has restaurants in AZ, NM and TX in the US and in the states of Chihuahua and Coahuila. I've never heard about it being a great success in Mexico because small, local taco places are way cheaper and may even be a better bang/buck option. I've even seen a location close after about a year.
@@triculious back when it first opened in Juarez it was much more comparable, now it's very chic taco place but still has some old school touches like the salsa bar and hand made tortillas. But since I've moved to Austin, I would give anything to have a Tacotote around again
Im a born Texan, and El Paso is ok. Good food, nice people for the most part. But really dry! It's personally nothing to write home about. Leos is good food, and L &J is pretty good( was one of our favorites. ) .
It's really dry because it's right in the middle of desert so it's not exactly a green paradise. El Paso is history rich and Texas history starts with El Paso.
I moved from Colorado to El Paso and I loved the dry (what I was used to)... and the altitude and mountains. I lived at the base of the Franklins and it was fantastic. No longer live there but I loved it!
Dry is better than humid heat. I've lived in both. And dry heat is not that bad, of course if its 100 plus degrees than dry and humid don't make it any difference. But 80s dry heat and 80s humid, the difference is big.
I have been here for the past 10 years and I have outgrown it. I feel that too many people are 'comfortable' here in that they do not want to get out of their comfort zone and do things differently. Most people want to settle, which is not a bad thing. However, if you are young and single, there really is not much here for you. Better to go elsewhere. People will also complain about the heat while staying inside with their AC blasting like it's going to change how they feel about the heat. You gotta acclimate yourself. I'm moving soon, but I really have enjoyed all the experiences I have had here in the city!
Everything was ok except chicos tacos a complete insult to our Mexican culture instead of wasting his time he should've gone to el cometa and actually get a real taste of Mexican food
Come on bro we all know that the vast majority of our population in El Paso is Mexican like 95% the rest is just thanks to fort Bliss and the military El cometa is way better than Chico's without a doubt
@@rainey1987 I was thinking about all this "authentic Mexican food" in El Paso and while yes, it's head and shoulders above many other abominations calling themselves "Mexican food", there are certain differences about it against what you find in Mexico. So I was thinking it's more "authentic Mexican-El Paso style food" because of that cultural mix. And don't get me wrong, I love it!
@@triculious exactly. So many of our food traditions are directly influenced by what is grown out here in the desert. Not to mention all the Native American history that also Blends in with our little amalgamation of a city. It's so uniquely this specific region
My beautiful city, I never want to leave. Puro Chuco town 915! All my 28 years of life, I've been here and love it. Thank you for this great and well-made video!
I live in Austin but I was born and raised in El Paso next time I need you to drive a little outside the city limits when your head back east El Paso to a small suburb called Horizon and go to a hidden gem not even all the locals know about called Tacos El Charley and get a mix of different tacos . Also if you’re in far east El Paso there is a Mexican bakery that outdoes even the OG bakeries called El Prado bakery it’s something you can’t go without trying.
yessur tacos el charley is amazing! Moved to horizon a few years ago and that has been my go to place. My dad *big time authentic taco fan* fell in love with that place. I was so glad to introduce him to tacos el charley
You made the same mistake most newbies make: you tried to stab the taco to raise. Think this way: you are on the floor of a carpet warehouse and you want to move rolls of carpet around. Your forklift (your fork) slips into the end of the roll of carpet to lift it up.
Excellent job! Best El Paso tour I've ever watched. You missed a few spots, but it would've been hard to squeeze all in just one day. I am so happy that you were able to go to the tramway (hard to believe, but hidden gem not many people knew about it), sadly no longer working.
By that “Border monument #1, around the bend by the railroad tracks there’s parts where u can see dinosaur tracks. When I was attending UTEP our Geology final was to go there and find them with a map the professor gave us. I’m from EL Paso and I still live here.
Watching your videos nonstop here after following and liking. Met you in Fort Worth shortly after my move to Texas. A friend of mine who’s from El Paso was a USCG who freed freighters frozen in Lake Michigan from ice and snow stationed in Charlevoix Michigan.
Listen I don’t like living in el Paso (I’m a north western girl who wasn’t built for the desert) , but this video made me appreciate it a bit more and showed me a few places in this town I haven’t seen or heard of before despite being here for 3 years now.
"It's the only taco you can drink" omg so true 😂😂 I love Chicos. BTW the tramway has been closed for a couple of years now I guess this video was filmed a while back. Still hoping they open back up soon it's a real treasure going up there and seeing our beautiful city ❤
It's been deemed not safe for the public and would cost too much to re-open it. I hope that some millionaire takes it on as a pet project for the city... best views in all of TX up there!
@@EricaGametI’ve been following the tramway’s revitalization. It cost $10M to repair, and (thankfully) the State Representative from El Paso asked the legislature for the money. Even though Texas Parks and Wildlife has the money, it will take several years before it’s open because they’re moving it to a completely new place.
I'm originally from SE New Mexico and have been to El Paso many times. My favorite part of this episode is when the host is at L&J's and is told "No" when he asked if the food was what he'd call Tex-Mex.
I live here in El Paso, and I thought the Tramway closed back in 2018, and still is, was this recorded back then? Or did they made an exception for your show?
It’s pretty cool. Just wish we didn’t get bullied by Gerrymandering. Great place to visit, ok-ish to live in, not ideal to vote in if you want a fair chance of El Paso being heard. Also, DO NOT forget sunscreen.
L&J is not that great! Next time try the authentic Mexican restaurant "Victoria's" in Canutillo. El Paso also has the stash house of Pancho Villa in downtown. There's also more history & historic sites in San Elizario.
Born and raised in EP and my dude, your little hat and mustache intro completely embodied my high school freshman English teacher. I mean you nailed it. Mr. Bruns
We had a Mr. Bruns in high school, with a moustache, but he wasn't the teacher, he was an academic counselor. Our principal Mr. Watts was tall and lean and dressed like a cowboy. It was hilarious to see him walking down the hall and his cell phone would go off with "The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly" ringtone.
Amazing episode! Great job you nailed it! Really made me homesick for my hometown! Here’s some places you missed.. Ft Bliss, The Chamizal, The Missions, Licon Dairy, Bowie Bakery, and the star on the mountain.
I hope EP gets another episode, so many more things show! The Mansion belonging to J.J. Arms, Chamizal and Ascarate Parks, UTEP Sun Bowl, Fort Bliss, etc… I owe my childhood and part of my adolescence to that great city 🫶🏼.
