San Diego kind of reminds me of Miami w/dried climate & beautiful mountains.you've made a great life for yourself Robert.

It is actually nothing like Miami IMO. Totally different vibe, climate and terrain. The Pacific Ocean is also very different to the Atlantic around Florida. Much colder, much more dramatic. San Diego is also much more Mexican and Asian influenced. Miami is more Cuban and South American. You're almost better off speaking Spanish than English in Miami.

It's been several years since I've been to San Diego with my family. The old town model wasn't there the last time I was there. We have stayed at the Koa in Chula vista several times it's a really nice campground. There is the San Deigo Model Railroad Musem located in Balboa Park. The Midway Musem is also worth checking out. If you want to visit Mexico take the Blue Line trolly to the border it a short walk. There used to be a trolly you could take from the Koa.

San Diego Zoo...we used to go there with family as kids. I find it too metropolitan too much, to many people, it was interesting to hear your views on the wall and the shabby park in California state park chain. I don't think you got to all those corner spots on this trip, but you did get to the great NW point too. This next group of videos I'm sure will make me a bit home sick. I moved from Central Coast CA, to Washington Olympic mountain area, then to up state New York. It just goes to show how different these USA states are. I love watching your videos. New music is enhancing to you beautiful photography. Thanks again!

As far as I am concerned, the biggest part of Old Town San Diego is a big tourist trap. I would like to advice if you visit San Diego for one day again, park it in the parking structure behind Petco Park. It will cost you only $2,- a day. From there it is a short walk to the Gaslamp Quarter. At the Gaslamp Quarter you have several points you can hop on a tourist trolley that brings you around all of San Diego, Coronado included. You can hop on and off where you want. If my memory serves me well, I had to reserve tickets for it through the internet. But I guess it is worth it. You can use it to orientate where you want to go after the round trip. Nice video once again.

I enjoyed that railroad thing so much. I wish you'd had a tiny mini tinnie to slip into their lil trailer park part! That woulda been so cute! See how long til they noticed? LOL. I went to San Diego back in 2006 ( or so ) I had been laid up from a car wreck but was better and I cut loose! We were on some Marina island with no car to go places ( and no uber yet lol ) and with airline restrictions I had no moisturizer with me and my Florida skin ( used to the humidity ) was drying out in that California air like a lizard. I did not want to pay boutique prices ( 8 bucks for a tiny bottle ) at the little exclusive "sundries" store at the Island hotel, so I got me a mayo packet from the sandwich display ( when I bought a sub ) and used the mustard on my sub and the mayo on my face. Slurp! My dry Florida skin felt wonderful! Good times.

Lovely video. I was very surprised, however, at the way that State Park looked, I would think that California would take more pride in how it looks. It was interesting seeing Mexico so close. I love the architecture in "Old San Diego" and the city itself seems to have lots to offer as do the surrounding areas. I am looking forward to the next video. I haven't been keeping up as much as I would like, my husband has been in the hospital so that has kept me away from home. He is home now though and we are once again loving your adventures.

It's always memorable to go into an out-of-the-way restaurant & find the food exceeding your expectations. I sincerely hope your trip up US395 will include visits to the Western Movie Museum in LONE PINE, CA. & the Alabama Hills. $5.00 admission price to the Museum where you'll easily spend 2+ hours. You might even want to visit the Hotel where John Wayne & other Hollywood Western movie Stars stayed during the filming of a Western movie. You'll find plenty of free readily accessible & HUGE RV parking area at THE mall/Grocery Stores in Bishop, CA. RVers are welcome to overnight @ the North end of town approx 1/2 mile past Denny's on the RIGHT side of the road.

Being from CA and currently living in TX (my lady from San Diego) I support the wall but I don’t prefer it. I’d love for there not to be a physical border because it’s not pretty. I’m not anti Mexico or Mexican, and I’ve know and been friends with wonderful Mexican families in the farmland of CA, and some were even “illegal”. The problem is that the border should have always been properly secured, and it wasn’t. Previous administrations were not diligent on protecting our country. Not all people coming in are good, and CA has a LOT of problems that illegal immigration is not helping so I hope we get the proper wall up to do the job but I wish it didn’t have to be that way. Honestly. America is built on immigration so don’t mistake me, I dont aim to just keep Mexican people out, I just want people to come and go properly. I was in Mexico last winter (PV and Sayulita) and actually talked to the Mexican locals about it and I explained my opinion and they didn’t seem to have a problem with it because I wasn’t coming from a hateful place.

Being born and raised in San Diego, and now living in Colorado, I would like to thank you for the brief, but enjoyable, memory refresh....especially having often visited every place you went...except the border "wall", which wasn't there when I left California in 1977. My grandfather & grandmother are buried on the pacific ocean side area of Ft. Rosecrans. Oh yes, being as you like model railroads, the next time you visit, be sure include the San Diego Model Railroad Museum in Balboa Park. Of the 4 different layouts in there, I was able to run my trains on the N-scale layout. You WILL be surprised by the size of each of them. Be safe, have fun, & happy camping. v/r, TS - Denver

Congratulations on finding the ugliest state park in California. (Next time try Torrey Pines State Park, much nicer.) Imperial Beach is closed half the time because of all the raw sewage poured into the ocean by Tijuana. The new Trump trade deal is supposed to address that by building a more modern sewage plant for Mexico. Yeah, Old Town is a complete tourist trap. Not that you can't have fun there, but if you are on a limited schedule I would put it low on the list. Balboa Park should be your first stop along with Coronado, La Jolla and the San Diego Zoo and Midway Museum, Mission Beach, Del Mar and Ocean Beach. Cabrillo Monument is spectacular on a clear day. Hardly worth it on a cloudy, hazy day. Frankly, the weather can make or break your enjoyment of San Diego. The usual great weather transforms it into something truly special. The sunsets are usually epic. You had some bad luck finding the marine layer in July. Usually that is during May and June. May-Gray and June-Gloom we call it. Those are the two months I would avoid San Diego. But almost always that burns off by 4th of July.

Regarding your mention of our marine layers etc, a word of advice about Southern and Northern California weather. A comedian said that the hardest job in America is being a weatherman in San Diego. They pay you a bunch of money but you have to come up with a new and interesting way to say “the weather tomorrow will be just like it was today” Northern California from Monterey up get its influence not only from the ocean but the Central Valley. Dummies guide explanation is in the summer July-Aug the valley heats up and creates a pressure area. It makes the fog back up over the coast and it can get really foggy and cold. The pressure area starts dissipating in Sept. The fog moves through and the weather on the coast is SPECTACULAR Sept, Oct and most of November. Nobody out there either. Camp anywhere.

Outstanding! I've been wanting to tour San Diego for quite some time now. Great to see it through your lens. Getting stoked for the "cruisin the 395" episode. Happy New Year brother!

An area I've never seen you visit yet. I dont blame you because its way out the way, but the bottom area of the texas coast would be cool to see you go to. Corpus Christi and down the RGV to the Brownsville, McAllen area.

Thank you for such a detailed vlog! I've had San Diego on my list for a long time to see Del Coronado Hotel and old town but I didn't know how much more there is to visit. Is the cemetery you passed before you got to the monument on military property? I looked at map and can't find it. I could spend a full day on the museum displays and architecture of the Spanish style hacienda.

The cemetery is accessible to private citizens. We visit family there, it is public. Have you never been to the lighthouse? You do pass by a gate, but, it is most always open. I would only suppose its closed during an emergency. You really can spend a full day there. The visitors center, a small radio museum, the lighthouse, trails to hike. A road leads down to the tide pools as well as more trails. I do recommend a visit. We usually pick up lunch in Pt. Loma and enjoy a picnic. A great view- from Coronado beach, you can see the lighthouse (from some angles, both old and new). Great photo, especially during the sunset.

I took a walking tour on Coronado Island, started at an historic mansion near Hotel Del. I really enjoyed it. Also, anyone can access the beach behind the Hotel Del.

I've lived in San Diego for 40+ years, but have never visited Old Town - but now I have thru you! You're like my personal traveler, visiting places I probably wouldn't but would like to 'see' in some way. I now live about 3 miles SOUTH of The Wall, and again, have never visited that park (if you can call it that). I enjoy the videos for exercise, I may start them all over again :). Small PP donation made, more to come.

Yay, my most favorite video and place you featured ❤ since I am based and living in this beautiful place ❤ thank you for featuring America's finest city. And I am totally agree with you with the status of the international friendship park, in Imperial Beach, though I never been there myself I felt your disappointment about it. Hope the State will do something about it.

Next time when you visit Southern California you should come down to Oxnard, California a beach town with historic buildings, museums and great beach side views and a lot of local breweries up in next door city Ventura btw i recommend the Transmisson or Poseidon Brewery. And make sure to stop by my families family owned restaurant Carnitas El Rey #2 on 3021 Saviers Road to try some of the best carnitas in California, we would love to attend you - Omar

Borderfield State Park isn't open all that much, usually due to winter rains making the roads unpassable. It's also, as you saw, fairly isolated, and there are plenty of beaches in San Diego. The reason it looks so run down is, open or not, it is constantly occupied by Border Patrol, who have no problem driving their trucks and quads all over everything. That's why benches and planters are all damaged in the picnic area. It is a sadly neglected state park, but worse, is the BP abuses it.

Casa di Bandini used to be in Old Town SD, until some council members decided to drive that restaurants out. Attendance died there, but luckily the Bandini opened up in Carlsbad. Next time, you visit, you must eat dinner there. They had alley cats roaming around the tables, huge margaritas, best food. www.casadebandini.com

Robert you are correct about the condition of this park and others. Here in California we pay a lot of money for real estate, taxes, gasoline etc, yet the place is a dump. Back in the 60s, California was a beautiful state with great highways, now there are potholes everywhere. Take a tour of Oakland and San Francisco and you will see the poor condition of these large cities and you wonder if it's those who are governing the cities and the political party of the state who is at fault. The best thing California has going is the weather. Thanks for a great video.

The border park is mostly abandoned because people don't go there because it smells like shit. Tijuana is constantly having sewage spills in that area and San Diego is currently sewing them over it. I used to surf over there in IB until i got meningitis. Some of the best waves in San Diego and nobody can even go in the water.
