Here are towns I visited on a Danube River: Szentendre, Visegrad and Esztergom. All are easy to reach and near to Budapest. I also mention some hiking trails I took in the hills between the towns.
Thank you, I went to Visegrad on your recommendation during my 5 day trip to Budapest and it was really nice :-) I took the H2 train to Szentendre then bus 880 to Visegrad. I was able to go there, explore the village and hike the entire route to the citadel and back down on the other side. On my way back, I still had time to discover Szentendre for a couple of hours and have a nice meal at a restaurant there before going back to Budapest. Great trip overall, so thank you for the recommendation!
