#挑戰中雙塔騎車
Every hardcore cyclist knows that Taiwan is a cycling paradise, with beautiful mountains, very steep terrain, ever changing weather conditions throughout the year, friendly Taiwanese people, great foods & drinks.
Our tour guides and operators (pic) Xiao Guo and Zhi Hong Gu picked us up from Taipei city and drove us to a hotel very close to the northern tip of the island. And thanks to Stanley (pic insert) for planning out this epic route but he was injured and couldn’t join us.

Day 1, the plan is to ride from the Light house Fugui Cape at the most northern point of the island and ride up the Yangming mountain, then through Taipei city and climb another steep mountain Jiaoba shan, and end at the city of Datong . The route is 170km with 11,500 ft of total elevation gain. It’s not going to be an easy ride.
The traffic in Taipei is heavy and it took us two hours to get through Taipei including a lunch break. Each traffic light is about 1 & 1/2 min and we hit every single one of them, but we had fun chatting along the way. City drivers were courteous to cyclists.
Because of the city traffic, heavy rain and a broken bike that caused multiple delays.
It’s already 3:30PM, and at this point we’re still an hour away from the mountain check point which closes at 4PM, We’re already on the road for 7 & 1/2 hours, and so the ride ends here.
We ended the day with only 70 miles and 5,300 ft of elevation gain.
I was glad that we didn’t finish the ride as planned, because the next day we’ll be biking up Wuling, which is 70 miles with 12,500 ft of elevation gain, and we needed to save out legs for tomorrow’s brutal ride under the hot sun.
