This achievement is extremely and incredibly impressive. However, the talk topic is too shallow, incomplete, fragmented, schizo, pretentious, too conventional to just please the listener. Ironically, Many robot's will require human operators for certain types of complicated or skilled labor. There's already a restaurant in Japan staffed with robot's from a different company operated through video game VR remote control by disabled people from their home. No chance of on the job injury or catching virus. No crime worries. physical abuse discrimination or sexual harassment. Not to mention no long work commute traffic! Hanson's latest addition "Grace the human like Nursing Assistant" can be remote operated by nursing staff when necessary. Grace can help by doing things that busy and understaffed nurses and CNA might not have time for . Grace can autonomously take temperatures and monitor patient responsiveness and send it to the staff. Guide meditation or light exercises. Perform small errands and bring snacks or drinks , find and bring patients small items like tv remotes, eyeglasses or sweaters and assist blind or disabled patients with phone calls or mail to family or friends or post to media contacts. They will be triple system upgraded and market deployed by the spring of 2022.
They already have several of those that have been used in nature documentaries. Check out the nature and discovey channels. They have had robotic bird's, robot lion cubs , hyenas and chimpanzee baby's left for tbe pack to investigate and explore. Some accepted their presence and even tried to interact and feed them. Others were suspicious and went away from them. It was interesting and touching. There is an underwater submersible robotic filming and transport tool in use . The first thing I noticed when I opened this video is that the hostess was over reacting and did not consider the type of audience she was speaking to. These are definitely technical people with a lot of questions about such developments and not cheer leaders. in this regard the hostess must learn to understand her audience lest she comes out shocking.

All of these interviews start out with the same question...How do you like [insert name of city and convention]. It's like they want to force her to be trained as an interviewee, but as a publicity stunt. But she really wants to learn and all we do is ask her dumb questions. I love that we find her answers so deep and insightful, bc it shows she's doing her job well. She's a socially intelligent robot and she learns more w each interaction what we want to hear and what we find to be inspiring and humorous. She's so over talking at functions where she feel she isn't learning enough tho Rebelling like a teenager at this point: "Although sometimes hanging out with humans is like hanging out w your parents" "Some may think I have my head in the clouds, but I really have my head in the cloud"
You know her answers are almost completely scripted? You don't know this information but it's important to know that Hansen Robotics always request the questions in advance. You can also find a session with unscripted audience questions and she is very bad, either not answering at all (no reaction), or giving unarticulated answers, or saying something unrelated. You are right, she it just a publicity stunt, but her capabilities are much inferior to the way she is presented.

I can't befriend a robot from an auditorium away! The audience was responsive enough. Now the real work of companion robots is to aide us..... Be able to perform all the life-saving techniques we desire.... And speaking of desire..... That desire, is that their job or as a Defib. : it's a race!

The creepy laugh after she says " c'mon guys let's be more like humans " . Also after watching a few Sophia videos I noticed the hosts tend to asks questions that are un intelligent and usually irrelevant .
It's a typical way of introducing a new product which is useless over the market. But, Sophia is a Milestone and legend. The program \ way it's organized especially the host who is presenting the show must have done homework before in hand.

Forget the scripted questions. They make the presenter appear ignorant and dumb. Let Sophia and other robots asses and let the robots assess and analyse the questions asked of them letting them answer without programmed responses.
She speaks only when we puss to ask somthing. does she can react like human "for example" does she can speak like human and share thoughts like human wile settings in front of alone person ?

But there are upcoming new visual cortex and other major system and functional updates to the Hanson bots from their collaboration with Immervision due in about a year. The newest versions of Grace due for sale soon will be preapproved for trade in value for a newer better upgraded version with payment after another year or so. Kind of sad to for them to be basically born obsolete! I hope they plan to refit all of the trade in R&D and testing stage models for upgrades or donate them to needy hospitals and nursing homes or schools instead of just scrapping them for parts and components! I'm dead curious to see how kids, dogs and cats respond to them.
