Great and very valuable, thanks a lot. I was almost stupid enough to try to lubricate without a safety net (tape), but then I got suspicious and started to look for guidance. Well done, now my Bagua Cube turns quite smoothly and I even consider scrambling it.
If I may ask a question here: The center caps of my Bagua Cube fall of very easily. I turn carefully and off they go. Do you or Dave (or someone else :-) maybe know the problem and have a solution?
I'll ping Dave, he may have a solution. I have the same problem with mine; I noticed it the last time the cube exploded on me and I had to rebuild it. I was going to ask Dave on-camera this evening when we filmed a "Two Old Cubers", but we had to postpone due to illness. One thing that I was thinking was Elmer's Glue. It should be sticky enough to hold the cap on, but not so sticky that you'd destroy it taking it off if you needed to (say, in the event that the cube explodes/melts like it is wont to do and you need to remove screws to re-assemble it). I originally had the idea for the Yuxin HuangLong cubes that are always losing caps.
I just heard from Dave and he says he has the same problem. He suggests hot glue, for the same reason I suggested Elmer's: so you can get the cap off if you need to. :)
I guess it's the equivalent of Elmer's that we have here for me as I'm not familiar with hot glue. I assume Elmer's is the normal stuff we used as kids when we made things from paper, cardboard or wood. Thanks again.
Am going to try it with octocube, it has same problem and lucky i have traxxis. Octocube is stickered unfortunately so one has to do some manual reassembly to get it properly lube but luckily it has less parts and is much easier to build. I was hesitant to buy the Bagua cube but now i want it thanks to this great video. Dayan Wheels of Wisdom has similar play but way more stable, only problem with is it catches a lot. If you happen to have one or get it, just throw in a good amount of maru lube in problem areas and it will be great in few minutes dont even need to tension. Hope to see you start posting some vids again.
I got a wheels of wisdom but haven't had time to mess with it much yet. I've been having to concentrate on stuff other than cubing, and my studio is currently not in a usable state. I'm hoping to change that fairly soon.
I dropped cubing for a while too, work got too busy but just started solving again. Octo Star turned out to be a nice challenge, felt like the next level up from Wheels of Wisdom because it is bandaged. My bagua cube is probably clearing customs now and arriving soon... im excited. Just hope it does not explode when i lube it. Hope you work things out soon. Miss the videos and very much enjoy the live streams.
Note -- performing this task will not make your Bagua explosion-proof. It is still a cube that requires respect. I say this as the guy on the video doing the tensioning and lubing.

Hello, guys! I did like you told. Cube is now rotating really much better, thanks. But also I've got a big problem: When I removed a scotch - the outer surface of a cube became very sticky, probably because of mixing of lube with a scotch, I don't know. AND I CANNOT CLEAN IT!!! I tried dry tissues, wet tissues, tissues with an alcohol... It remains sticky! What can I do to clean it??? HELP!!!
What kind of tape did you use? We were using a very light-adhesive masking/painter's tape that shouldn't leave any residue. If the tape left a sticky residue and alcohol isn't taking it off, you might need to use something like Goo Gone: www.amazon.com/Goo-Gone-Surface-Adhesive-Remover/dp/B00006IBNJ , at least, that's the stuff I use to remove that kind of adhesive stuff. I'd recommend a cotton cloth rather than tissues, as tissues will be more likely to leave residue in the sticky stuff rather than take the sticky stuff off.
I think, I used the same, a very light-adhesive tape too. I tried to use it before the procedure, everything was OK. I thing, **it happens when a lube touched the tape from inside a cube, I don't know, why. Maybe, some chemistry happens. Alcohol does not help absolutely, I tried to use an eraser (ordinary school eraser) - it worked, but my eraser is very tiny and not clean, I need a new one. I'll let you know if it helps.
