Also they make a great compliment to a breakfast plate very colorful and it makes you look like a high end chefs. I've eaten the flowers a lot. Yummy. Once again nice video.
Wow! Laxative! I ate one bud from out in my yard and whoosh! About 1 hour later I was cleaned out. The bud tasted great though. Like a green bean with a slight peach flavor.
yep. different people have different experiences with them. I for one love them, and have yet to have any side effects. I look forward to them each year.
Wow that's one beautiful edible flower. Have you seen any Viola flowers (Johny Jump ups) They are a good looking one too. I have them growing in my yard and like to put the flowers in ice cubes and then use the cubes for martinis. Thanks again for sharing. -Andy
The day lilies are all over my state as well.although i have to ask if they come in any other colors? There are several different lilies that grow in our state? Are there any that are poisonous?
I ate some raw day Lilly pods - a small handful - It was fine - but a few days later I picked more so I had a bowl of it sauteed briefly in butter with salt - I had the worst diarrhea in my life - there is a warning about this plant that some people will not tolerate it and be sick - I was one of those few - as he says in the video it can have a laxative effect - so caution - eat small amounts at first to see if it affects you - sad for me - I'm burned now and will not eat it - and there's so much of it in Inwood Hill Park in Manhattan its ridiculous - so be careful folks
I have eaten them pretty good, the tubers are good as well. It is wierd I have yellow and orange . I have read that the yellow are fine as well and have eaten some to try but , I am not positive about the yellow ones, but the orange ones are pretty good.
i did alot of research on them and they are actually used alot in some countries. Now the yellow ones taste exactly like the orange ones. and i believe they are the original day lily , or one of the original.Anyhow great video and the orange ones are good
There's a Chinese restaurant here where I live that uses day lily roots in their Mongolian beef. And I refuse to eat Mongolian beef from anywhere else because I can't find another place that makes it with day lily.
