Days Gone is a far more deserving game than most of the games press is giving it credit for. It's not perfect by any stretch, but it's worth your time and money if you are looking for gripping narrative experiences.

AydarBMSTU I disagree. I hated how Ubisoft-y BotW felt with the tower climbing and a few other of its mechanics. Got the game day one alongside a Switch and still only done one Divine Beast I found it so off putting.

Metro Exodus felt like that for sure, I loved the open world sections. Open World is still an awesome concept. I mean, imagine an actually not-so-ubisofty Far Cry Primal.

@Steve I can see your point but you may have had a totally different view on the game if you hadn't stopped because personally I have never played a more intriguing game than ir since the last of us. I had the same opinion on days gone but once I got passed all of the tutorials and the game let's you use the tools etc I loved it . The game is also much more than just hacking and slashing but I can also see why some people dislike the combat.

I love this game. It's so underrated. 1. It has the best and realest characters I saw in a long time in a video game. 2. No microtransactions 3. You can actually unlock everything for free in this game and get hidden bonus weapons by completing the storylines. 4. A great skill tree and weapons who feel great . 5. Great sound and immersion Game is a solid 8 or higher.

I have played both TLOU and days gone. Days gone really stands out especially when it's horde time. Eagerly waiting for days gone 2. I love this game!

I got tlou, free from ps plus I played it for a whole a day never played it again aftwards. I brought days gone while it was on sale played it almost everyday for almost 2weeks until i beat it even after I beat it i still play it.

@@tonymack2007 same. I played Last for a few hours, but didn’t enjoy hiding and saving my 3 bullets all the time. Playing “terror of the mooks” (see Tv Tropes) to the zombies in Days was a guilty pleasure, and I enjoyed the story.

The Story of the Last of Us is just more deeper, better with strong character arch’s. Days Gone story was good but it felt like a PG story compare to TLOU Rated R story line. The last of us also made me feel more immerse in the world but I did enjoy some of the side characters from Days Gone like Lisa, Boozer etc.

that game was super repetitive, so many damn towers , with so little attention to detail, super downgraded from its previous game, farcry 2 was actually the only really good farcry games, decent story, gameplay and detail, after that everything has gone downhill , for pretty much any ubi game but the fandom is pretty strong with them and they keep purchasing their trash

Started out mediocore but has turned out to be a VERY good game with super intricate detail and a long story campaign. The zombies made it a must try for me anyways can't go wrong with zombies, but I'm overall pleasantly surprised by days gone.....soooo your stereotypical nonsense was false lol

Thats pretty much what I've been told by friends who have played it, it's a solid 7/10 game. It's not a masterpiece but it is still pretty enjoyable and worth a play.

This game probably has the best zombies in any game I've ever played. The way your stomach drops when you stumble across a horde you have no choice but to run from can't be matched by any other game. I've never seen the "horde" done so well.

I can't seem to stop playing this game, at it's core it's your standard open world game, but combined with the story, the characters, the beautiful world, the bike and the amazing overwhelming hordes, I just don't see myself getting bored of this game. It's just the technical issues that hold it back, like the fps drops.

ya, its so addicting. I don't remember the last time I thought so much about playing a game when I wasn't playing it. The other two AAA games that I have finished that came out this year are Devil May Cry 5 and Resident Evil 2 Remake. These two games are more polished and both great but Days Gone was more addicting.

The aiming can be improved by: 1. Upgrading the shooting skills and using the slow motion. 2. Keeping the distance from the enemy while shooting. 3. Learning the attack behavior of the freakers. They have pattern - moving not straight, but a little bit around the cirсle when they not very close. 4. Using controller that can be programmed. So it helps you to tune the sticks right that your aiming will be much smoother. 5. When you start to aim, make sure that the cross will appear on the enemy or near. 6. Try to aim always in the head. With all of this I personally enjoy the shooting, using it all the time and wish this for all of you

Yes i agree. Shooting is no worse than many 3rd person games. I enjoyed bombing around shooting here and there taking guys out quickly.

I'll say that if you lend yourself to the gyro aiming feature the developers added then it makes the gunplay feel incredible in medium to longranged encounters

Agreed. I think alot of his complaints and general complaints that alot of people had with gunplay and progression are baked in to the game design make you feel weak and powerless at the beginning. I really like those first several hours of experiencing the atmosphere and world. You really do feel like you have to be super careful and you can't just go anywhere and do anything right away like most open world games.

Yeh I feel as if the gunplay was bad in the beginning as you only had really shitty guns at your disposal but as you get further and get ur hands on better guns ,the gunplay was quite good. Not amazing but good.

Thank you for this honest review. Days Gone is rough around the edges, but it is not even close to being as bad or buggy as people like to paint it. I hope it still pays well enough for the devs at Bend Studios, despite The Last of Us P2 waiting at the horizon.

The bad rating was most likely due to performance on console. Which is why reviews on the recent pc port is much higher.

I own both a pc, Xbox one and ps4, I buy (often second hand) every game worth playing. And I can honestly tell you this, days gone is THE best game I've played this year. The only thing you can hold against the game is frame drops every now and then. The rest, especially the story and characters are awesome

I love this game. How they complain about the "fuel issue" with the bike. That's what the UPGRADES are for! They would know if they actually played the game before reviewing it!

The gameplay is very good. Way better than Days Gone (and I like Days Gone). However, I agree with his overall point that it wouldn't be held as highly of it was released nowadays. It would be a review darling, sure, but not a masterpiece. Less 10s more 9s, probably.

I still don’t think I’ve played a game as complete as The Last of Us. The combat is genius, but you only realise it when you play on the harder difficulty levels. I replayed TLOU on each difficulty, and from normal to the second hardest played almost like a different game.

The writing is not as strong but the dialogue is great and the characters pull you in. You want to complete it because you want closure for each character and see how it all pans out

Playing it since christmas and loving it. It can´t get any better than a zombie open world game with motorbikes, driving makes a lot of fun and nothing beats the tension of fighting a horde, man this game comes really close to my dream of a TWD open world game. After season 2 i wished for it and years later it arrived in the form of days gone. After 60 hours i´m still amazed by it and eager to end the story so i can hunt the hordes. I'm playing this game right now on PS5 with all the patches, and it's running at a smooth 60+ fps in 4K. I've barely had any glitches and the minor ones I do encounter a quick restart of the game clears them up. I highly suggest anyone reading this try the game now because it's becoming one of my all-time favorites.

I thoroughly enjoyed this game. If this game was put out just a year ago, it would havd been a critical hit. There are some glaring bugs and issues, but honestly, they only bothered me for the few small moments they occurred in. And I really did enjoy the melee, shooting and driving in this game. There is just a lot of small touches that immersed me in this game. Not a 10/10 game but definitely one I would recommend playing.

Red dead redemption’s world is humongous and is riddled with gang hideouts, secret loot, stranger events that can be approached in several ways, stranger missions,bounty hunting missions,beautiful and stunning environments, mini games, legendary animals for you to hunt,in game challenges,collectables,large towns each with their own personalities and unique traits, abandoned hideouts,towns and houses left up for the players interpretation. You clearly haven’t the played the game at all. I’m on my third fucking play through and I’m STILL coming across new things every day.

Technically what Bend has done with this game, while reducing file size from 60 to 38g, and running at a solid 4K 60 on PS5 is something we usually don’t get. Amidst all the hate Days Gone got, some deserved most not in my opinion, Bend kept working and this is now a must play on PS5. It’s a shame this is not getting a sequel, I found this game more enjoyable and better voice acted and written than say, Horizon Zero Dawn, which by the end of that one, I was slugging through just to complete it. Yet Horizon is a centerpiece next gen sequel and Days Gone got pegged.

Truly an underrated game, having a blast with this open world just going at your own pace and exploring as it travels you asking it's dense areas. Plus it has motion aiming which is very crucial for controller based shooting. Especially important since you don't get much ammo so every shot does count for how little health you have

Idk the shooting just feels kind of mechanical in this game, but that isn't to say I'm not enjoying it regardless. I just don't think Deacon spent too much time at the range while he was in the service lol

I skipped this masterpiece on release but thankfully decided to try it on ps5 via BC, that said I instantly loved it. The open world your bike finding the best weapons and investing in them takes time makes it more meaningful and I loved that. The hordes and day and night system are great. I felt like I was playing a more modern game and didn’t feel like an older game. What a seriously underrated game and it’s sad because had the reviews been a bit better the sequel will have been released and I can only imagine what the devs had planned.

I completely agree with industry bias towards certain games. I'm currently playing days gone and loving it. But I would honestly say slow your roll just a little with the comparison to The last of Us and Red dead redemption 2. Industry bias aside theres a reason those games are talked about so highly from a journalist standpoint and from an average gamer standpoint. Days gone has barely been out 2 weeks and they're already on their 7th patch. This game definitely needed more development time. I understand being upset at Industry bias but let's all try to temper our own personal bias. Again that's just my opinion and I'm loving days gone. I've been working all weekend and im excited to play tonight. That's just my 2 cents.

So you say the gameplay in days gone is better than last of us but you also said the gameplay in days gone such as shooting is terrible. I’m confused because the Last Of Us’ gameplay/gunplay was great. I found the gunplay was terrible in the beginning as i think it was meant to be. Once you get guns like the Tommy, RPD or that machine pistol once u progress and get more powerful guns they become way more trustworthy and easy to use. Also I think zombies dodging left to right is good. Last of us infected twitched all over the place and made it hard to shoot them but I think that was a nice addition as it adds to the panic in gun fight and no one complained about that in TLOU. Also you said fuel runs out in five minutes but u forgot to mention that it’s only like that in the beginning as you can upgrade your fuel gauge. I feel your bike and weapons were suppose to be crappy in the start so when ur bike/weapons do get better as u progress it’s more rewarding when you finally get good weapons and build your bike up from this crappy price of junk to a full fledged drifter bike. Though I’ll admit I am fan boying this game. Pretty Good review otherwise in my opinion.

Caius shooting in Last of us was fine?! It was heavy and grounded in reality. Weapon sway taking into consideration stance and movement. It was just realistic. The gameplay was fine for what the devs were going for. People say last of us combats basic but never talk about how every other 3rd person shooter is also technically basic and lackluster. Gears of war is just point and shoot. Uncharted is point and shoot, spec ops the line is just point and shoot. So idk. I personally think gameplay was great and tactical. And I didn’t play stealthy and I had a blast. No problems what so ever. I don’t get it because if last of us is lackluster then basically every other 3rd person shooter lackluster as last of us is probably the most effort I’ve ever seen put into a 3rd person shooter.

Caius also combat had some pretty good stuff. Taking hostages and using them as human shields, perfect hand to hand combat, good stealth whether u like the stealth or not lol, crafting, and what I atleast thought was great aiming as it wasn’t arcadey and actually required skill. Loved the weapon sway and how the reticle got bigger as u moved more, making ur shots more inaccurate or standing still or crouching to make ur shots more accurate. Combat is very hectic and I think last of us captured that perfectly with it’s more hardcore shooting mechanics instead of a static crosshair.

Go play a game like Tarkov if you want a “heavy, grounded” game system for gunplay. TLOU has passable gunplay, a lacklustre and typical stealth system and interesting- yet somehow unremarkable survival system. TLOU and RDR2 both suffer this problem, and are inherently going to be better STORIES than they are GAMES.

Never played Days Gone because I was interested when it released but I saw all the problems it was having with bugs so I held off. But now the game being "free" on the Playstation plus collection on PS5 I finally gave it a chance, and I'm glad I did, I picked up the game at the best time possible, there are almost no bugs whatsoever and the performance on PS5 is amazing running at 4K and stable 60 fps

When he talks about fuel you can actually get a bigger gas tank which hold MUCH more fuel. I can now travel by bike between camps with only using about 5% of my fuel.

Is has a lot of problems, but the developers still try to fix as many bugs as they can. For me, it's a masterpiece in his own way... And personally, I just love Deacon and Boozer... I don't care what IGN, or other, idiotic "wanna be game reviewers" say. ------ And, It has a badass biker, a good story, interesting "enemys", big fcking hordes, funny gameplay and a lot of sidequests. The only 2 things I hate about this game is: 1.) The devs got rid of the multiple choices that were advertised in early gameplay. 2.) The N.E.R.O Soldiers for some reason can't be killed cuz they have "Strong Body Armor" yet they get torn apart, quite literally, by Junky Looking Infected.

I bought the game the day it released but waited until last week to play it because I heard it had a lot of bugs and glitches. So glad I did. I still experienced a few bugs and glitches and had to reload a mission once when an enemy didn't spawn. But all in all I think this is one of the best games of the year. The story was compelling and emotional. The characters were deep and memorable. I love this game.

I played Days Gone and it compelled me to be completely honest. The narrative was something that drew me in fairly quickly and I really enjoyed the balance of stealth, action, and horror in the gameplay. There were many moments in the game when I was either wide-eyed or my jaw dropped open because something came as a legitimate surprise to me. The game is unpredictable, and that for me was a rare experience worth mentioning. And despite what nearly every critic says, Deacon does develop as a character. He starts the game off focused fully on keeping himself alive, then fixates on Sarah after learning she could be alive, and by the end of the game, he realizes there's more to his journey than just Sarah and himself. He's affected by the characters around him, something I admire about his character. He may be resistant to change and have his own flaws and inconsistencies, but that makes him one of the most believable protagonists I've ever had the honor of playing as in a video game. Of course I do believe there are cons to this game, I don't think Days Gone is perfect. Pacing is a bit of an issue at times (not nearly as bad as most say it is), and the glitches can be an issue, but this is an example where the countless pros to the game made the worse parts very much worth enduring. And that's when I consider a game excellent. Just my professional, humble opinion here.

I think u really missed the point of the large reticle and constantly moving enemies. The idea, it seems, was to simulate the feeling of a high intensity firefight with mounting pressure and stress as it goes on. As you miss, your anxiety and frustration increase. Bullet spread and weapon unreliability are concepts, I think, which deserve more attention (appropriately) in video game gun fighting. The ammo economy supports this perfectly.

Except I hated the story of Rdr2 and loved Days gone's story. You know why? Because Rdr2 feels like watching a movie or reading a book on a subject I dont care about and Days gone feels like im LIVING the story with all the joy of a realistic open world and a fresh take on mutant zombies done RIGHT. I actually care about all the mystery in days gone behind the freakers and the backstory of all these groups with weird post apocalyptic goals and people who have subtle stories you have to guess at and suss out on your own for the most part rather than a book being read at me.

I'm so glad your giving this great game it's due. The only thing that was bad about it is that it released around the same time as RDR2 with a whole slew of big open world games. God of War was a huge release too and so not many people gave this proper time and consideration including me, and shame on the critics for not giving it proper kudos. I LOVE this game, i couldn't believe how good it was and I already was kinda hyped from initial previews. I love the combat and the way it really figures in how scarey fighting can be and you can't just guarantee hitting things just because you have the crosshair on it. You have to pause and letting the circle shrink. The stealth mechanics are some of the best I've played and even melee combat is awesome. I really liked it better than The Last of Us. It got a bad rap like Mad Max did and although that game was very good too, this I liked much better.

It was a great review. After watching this and your top lists you might have been the reviewer that shares the most similar views with me, so I'm happy I found your channel. I skipped the game on PS4, but picked up with the PC release, and it was one of the most fun games I've played in a while. That said I'm quite sure the PC release improved the game a lot, as the graphics were beautiful on higher settings, and shooting actually was pretty viable with mouse and keyboard :D. It has its own problems, like some loading stutters when traveling, but nothing serious. It is a shame it is released after the 2nd game got "cancelled". I can only wonder if an earlier PC release would have saved the franchise.

I started playing only because it was part of ps plus this month and wasn't expecting much because of the bad reputation but its really great fun and I have to disagree with you about the shooting I get head shots all the time it's lots of fun to play and pretty much all the technical issues are fixed so I haven't experienced any of them, great game so far, I am about 25 hours in

I just want to say that the shooting is only bad in the beginning. All of your guns are either in junk or poor condition so any assault rifle you pick up is going to be terrible. Once you unlock better guns, specifically ones in military and spec ops condition (even some average level ones are pretty good) the shooting quality will be astronomically better. I got into many fire fights at a distance with automatic rifles and had no issue taking out my targets. Also, everything I said goes the same for upgrading your bike, fuel stops being a big issue after awhile.

I loved Deacon as a character because I related him to Jax from Sons of Anarchy. A good guy at heart, but capable of terrible things and on the wrong side of the law often. I agree and really wish they had expanded on his "bad side" a bit more.

One thing about the bike. All your complaints are early game issues, that aren't really actually issues, and instead make you feel helpless on purpose. 1) Don't crash, and you won't have to fix it. That fragility forces you to get better at driving early on, but that is easily fixed with bike upgrades over time that keep increasing the durability of your bike. 2) Gas isn't as much of an issue as you're making it. Gas cans and gas stations are everywhere, and every camp has the ability to repair and refuel, even Deek and Boozer's orginal tower camp has an oil drum filled with infinite gas you can refuel from for free. Just keep an eye on your gas, and you'll be fine. (Your gas tank is only a few gallons worth at the start, which is realistic, remember that. At the end, the best tank lets you traverse the entire length of the map with plenty to spare.) Not only that, but through the game you'll unlock bigger and better gas tanks, taking you further and lasting longer, but also take longer to fill and cost more to fill, since it's a larger tank (great little attention to detail). I've also had times when my bike was low on gas and when I park in the middle of the street and go take out nests or a camp a bit further away, when I came back, I saw a marauder working on my bike, trying to scrap it for parts, to which I responded by popping him in the head. I've only ran out of gas once, but it was because I went and made something to eat while I was at a camp and forgot to fill up my bike before leaving. I don't regret it though, because when I ran out of gas, I parked it in the bushes (so marauders don't find it) and fortunately there was a marauder camp somewhat near by. I took it out, and found a gas can and started making my way back to my bike. On the way though, a horde saw me, and started chasing me down the road while I'm holding on to my precious gas can. Once I got to my bike, I knew I wouldn't be able to fill it up enough and take off before the horde caught up, so I just ran past my bike, throwing the can at it like a girl before booking it further down the road. After I took out the bulk of what was chasing me, and some stragglers, I made the long walk back to my bike, looked around the bushes, found the gas can, fueled up and finally left. That was an organic story I created for myself just through playing the game normally, and gave me a story to tell others, telling them about an experience I had. Annoying? Sure. Fun and interesting? Hell yes.

It runs okay on PC... I'm running a 2070 super with 32 gigs of ram, a 3700x and the game struggles to hit 100fps on my 3440x1440p monitor. I can't get it to lock to my monitors refresh rate unless I put nearly everything to medium at 90% resolution scale. That 10% hit to resolution makes a HUGE difference! The game ends up blurry... but it's the only way I can lock to 100hz at that resolution. I have both my CPU and GPU overclocked as well. What are you running and at what resolution/framerate?

My game stutters very badly as soon as I dip below 100hz. Even a dip to 97 fps causes stutter. I don't know... maybe you're more tolerant then I am to fps dips.

Kartik Punna Very. I can’t say much about Anthem, but I own 76 and can confirm Days Gone runs much better. Given, that’s to an extent when the textures look like they’re on a PS1 and you need to restart the game. Then it’s good as new for a few more hours of playing. (I dumped 6-10 hour sessions playing until the end.) There was a pivotal cutscene in Lost Lake where my audio became way out of sync and the textures were absolute garbage, but honestly I knew I should have restated prior to that mission.

Gotta disagree with thoughts on the bike and combat. 1. The realistic physics make you have to think about you drive your bike and how you attempt short cuts. 2. Fuel is exhausted fast when you’re “flooring” the gas the whole time. You gotta ride it like you would a real bike. Throttle when your going up hill, coast down hill, throttle on turns. It gets really fluid when you control it right 3. The lack of ammo had me get creative in battles. Shoot 1 or 2 people, move, melee, move, shoot, roll, shotgun, roll, etc. makes you have to think about where people are going and how you can line them up.

The physics for the bike can be a bit janky at time but overall I thought it was good and liked how fuel worked too, you have to think about how you drive until the last fuel tank upgrade at least. The ammo thing though isn't actually that bad if you ever low there is undoubtedly a cop car nearby to get some from, it does however suck that your ammo limit is quite low in the beginning understandable but still sucks lol.

Sean Downing It really is a refreshing change to use your entire arsenal instead of the best couple weapons in the game. This is one of the few games I actually use throwables in. RDR2 kind of lacks in that regard in the sense that I can now enemies down with a litchfield and be done with it.

I honestly consider shooting mechanics to be okay. I would welcome a little bit more aim assist(as I mainly play on PC - and destiny has much higher aim assist on console). What totally stand-outs though are characters/story. Its amazing, and I wonder what game those critics played..

In borderlands 3 the enemies just straight up dodge your shot if you're aiming at them sometimes. Like they play an animation and they become invincible like they're playing dark souls against you I'm all for enemies actually trying to dodge but when its "the enemy will 100 percent dodge your shot and become invincible" bs I'm like cmon

This seems to be one of those games that, in 5-10 years, people will say "Did You Know? When Days Gone first released it was met with critical disdain" It will be remembered with more fondness than it was first met with.

This game was amazing. I just played it in 2020, maybe some of these “issues” were patched? I had no problems with the gameplay (aside from a few small frame rate issues). This game was way better than I expected based on reviews. I thoroughly enjoyed adventuring through this world, and the horde battles were awesomely terrifying!

The AI has been the biggest letdown. Freakers are dumb, as expected, but so are humans. The bear boss fight was particularly bad. The bear in my game didn't even want to fight and kept walking away. I reloaded the game three times and the AI was still spotty. When I compare that to the experience I had fighting the Legendary Grizzly in RDR2, it doesn't even compare.

I was rapidly loosing interest in gaming, really struggling to get into games, then started playing Days Gone. Lost 150 hours to it and thought is was terrific.

@@MAJINNOBU easy really. 100% x2, then NG+, and then spent around 50 hours on the challenges. Just fell in love with the gameplay loop.

@@andrewpopely9511 Oh okay I thought you meant in 1 playthrough for some reason I should've thought about challenges and NG+. But you're right the gameplay loop is really good. Speaking of Days Gone I'm about to platinum it I only need to get level 3 trust with 3 encampments and nitro boost and drift for 5 seconds.

I actually liked the gunplay mechanics in this game. You only have a limited amount of ammo, your aiming ability is realistic given the gun you have, enemies realistically move around to avoid getting hit, etc. You have to think about where to position yourself, what enemies to target, when to use your focus, etc. So it's basically a thinking man's game, even when you are in a gun battle.

I gave Days Gone a couple extra points for not trying to fuck me over with microtransactions & loot boxes. Pay $60 get a full game + free DLC in June. Not the best game, but it was honest & as a consumer I appreciate that. I look forward to a Days Gone 2.

@@478Johnnyboy the campaign alone with just story missions is about 30 hours & it would be kind of tough finishing it any earlier less in my opinion. All the side missions & quests are about another 30 hours. Theyre adding more content next month with the free DLC

@@478Johnnyboy it's a solid 50 hour campaign if you ask me. If you just straight burned thru the story you could probably finish sooner but a lot of the side stories are good enough to pull your attention away. It's worth the play.

Here's my take on it.. Days gone is a slow burner, but once it started to light, I've never wanted to put it out. Can't stop playing it, haven't stopped since realese day. Yes it's got its problems but what game hasn't.
