I love this video! As an African American therapist, this dialogue resonates with me deeply. The same complaints and stories that you share that you hear from your clients are the same that I hear from mine. Cultural humility and cultural competence is SO IMPORTANT in this work. Thank you for creating a space to discuss this. ❤

I LOVE the fact that you said that " I want to be the type of therapist my dad could go to." I consider this all the time. Especially after experiencing watching my parents be mistreated when I was younger by professionals questioning why they didn't know certain things or making it obvious that they were frustrated. It is hard enough for people like our parents to ask for help, and a lot of the time it is because of the feeling of embarrassment and shame, fear of being judged... so yes! I love that we think alike

Yeeees!!!! 💯💯💯 The work we do matters so much. Not me crying after session when a client tells me how they’re now talking about mental health with their kids, siblings, or parents. Definitely a huge domino affect when our gente gets the care they need and deserve🤎🥹 Thank you for sharing amiga!

Thank you for including your progress on your hours. It's so intimidating as someone who's about to start an internship to think ahead to being an LPC-A and you remind me that it's doable and worth it.

I love your aesthetic of your RU-vid channel it elicits a calm ambiance in the virtual world. I watched a few of your videos.I want to know what school did you go to in Texas? What advice do you have for someone who wants to go to school for clinical psychology and is there any programs offered online that you know of?

Hi! Thank you so much! ❤️ I went to UTRGV in south Texas and got my Masters in Clinical Rehabilitation Counseling. I actually have a dedicated video on all the things I wish I knew before picking a grad school program but important thing is to consider what state you’re going to be licensed in so you can look at their stateboard rules for licensure. I did my program in person and only online because of the pandemic in 2020 so I don’t have programs to recommend. But pick a program based on what you value and need. I’ve heard from other associates that they’ve hated how they can’t make contact with their online programs for help or have trouble making connections so maybe if you’re going that route asking those questions beforehand and seeing how good the accredited grad school program is with communication and being intentional about making connections, and asking if they’ll be helping you find internships or if you’re expected to. Gradually building connections in the mental health feild is huge because it’s how you find about a lot of job positions and sites. I hope this helps.❤️
