For Days in the Weeks : Fun fact, I realized back then the Days were named after Elements Sunday - nichi -youbi (日)Sun Monday - getsu -youbi (月)Moon Tuesday - ka -youbi (火)Fire Wednesday -sui -youbi (水)Water Thursday -moku -youbi (木)Wood Friday -kin -youbi (金)Metal Saturday -do -youbi (土)Earth This has helped me in remembering and I hoped it helps you too (instead of confusing you even more LOL)

It was based on the Western dating system, I think. For example, Tuesday is the day of Tyr, which equivalent to Mars. Mars is 火星 (the fire star)
@littlewishy6432

@@liu2600 Makes sense. Korean and Japanese both do this. Chinese does its own thing by numbering the days of the week…
@user-et6pj4db9s
@user-et6pj4db9s 7 месяцев назад
The Chinese use the symbol for moon to mean month too, I presume the Japanese have taken this from them and then used it for Monday cos in english Monday does mean moon day. But in china it came to symbolise not Monday but the month cos of a new moon every month.

Days of Month 1-10 (Some hints that helped me out) Tsuitachi: 1st Day Futsuka: 2nd Day Mikka: 3rd Day Yokka: 4th Day (Kinda like 'Yon' =4) Itsuka: 5th Day Muika: 6th Day ( Kinda like sound-stressing the '3rd Day' Like the stress is like a double 3rd Day (3x2=6) ) Nanoka: 7th (Like the number 'Nana'=7) Youka: 8th Day (Like the same principle of the 3rd day but 4th. The stress of a long 4th Day=8th Day. (4 x 2=8)) Kokonoka- 9th Day( like Kyu-9.) Touka-10th Day (I suppose its like 'Ten' from English) Much thanks, Japan Society.

I listened to a dates of the month song (of the special numbers) before coming here. Then sensei's repetition in this video helped a lot to ingrain it. In my opinion, Miyashita-sensei's attentive expression (while teaching to a camera no less) reminds me of nice kindergarten teachers or kind older ladies that give treats. It makes kids (and adults!) comfortable and more willing to listen. After all, we're starting from kindergarten in Japanese.

For the first 10 days/dates, there is a special reading to them (ex: yokka). But for numbers over 10 (11~) there isn't, so that's why it's jyuuroku nichi (10 + 6 day).

I was watching Terrace House. In the show, the members go on dates with each other. The feeling I got after understanding their fixing dates(number) without looking at the subtitles is so good. Arigato Sensei!!!✨

I find it so gratifying to learn japanese - knowing that I'm learning something and if I fully learn it, I could play all the games I want in Japanese and be able to understand what the characters are saying. It's a bit exciting to see some of what I've learned, I can read it at times and when my fav character says something, I understand them. Like, there's a difference between the translation and original language, and sometimes the tone or manner in which it's said in is lost.

Is it just me, or when she demonstrate the difference between 4th (yokka) and the 8th (youka) she says "långsamt"? I'm from Sweden and in Swedish it means "slowly" or in this case "stretched". Does she speak Swedish as well? I was just really surprised to hear that word! Thank you for an awesome lesson series, it has helped me TREMENDOUSLY!

Some days don't use Nichi at the end and have their own word. You don't add Nichi with numbers. (1-10, 14, 20, 24) Thats why she skipped them. XD
