In german it is like that to! Monday means in german „Montag“ and the first sillable is „Mon“ which is from „Mond“ (Mond means moon), and Sunday is in german „Sonntag“ and this sillable „Sonn“ is from „Sonne“ what means sun. Sorry, needed to say that, because german is my native language.

-요일 is common part of all day-names. From war to toys: 월 - war (1st day) 화 - fight 수 - soothe (calm - treaty) 목 - mock (teasing to attempt new war) 금 - calm (peace - end of war, finally) 토 - toys time (total relaxation) 일 - ill (sick - tomorrow is 월 again)

I didn't get it. What do you mean from war to toys?
@danijeld8669
@danijeld8669 5 лет назад
@@morphidae Funny way to remember these words better. Do you know to read Hangul? If you know, surely you can notice similarities between words in Korean and English. First day is the hardest. Feels like it's 'war'. Then you gradually get to relaxed Saturday. So relaxed you could even play with 'toys'.
@danijeld8669
@danijeld8669 5 лет назад
@@morphidae Friday for example: 금 reminds of 'calm', which is like peace. That is the end of war, just like Friday (금) is the end of the week ("workweek" of course). We all like Friday, right?

They do have special meanings too actually lmao Monday = Moon (same as Korean) Tuesday = idrk tbh Wednesday = idk Thursday = ? Friday = Still not Saturday = Saturn Sunday = Sun In many languages, days of the week are named after the solar system (it’s pretty obvious in French, which is my first language) but i don’t understand all of the English ones haha

Yay! I'm so happy pink-walled Unnie is back! Perfect video length and content for Korean beginners like myself. These short learning videos I can watch many times over and over again and learn all the words and content. I feel like this approach forces me to learn. It'll take me a week to memorize this, so at least for me, one pink-walled Unnie video a week would be perfect. One criticism, I don't like when the captions hide your face in the video. There is no day of the week on which I would prefer to see hangul letters instead of your (Unnie's) face. The only exception was when you actually wrote on your face 😂 - 동대니 🐾🐾

Those rings in your eyes are a bit creepy. I feel you're watching directly into my soul D: If you listen to a lot of kpop, it should be easy to remember 요일 because in kpop you hear the word 매일 (everyday) A LOT. They sound similar, and they are related, so that part should be easy. What is, in fact, difficult is to remember the actual days of the week, and not get confused. For that, your song will be really helpful. Thanks XD

Very cool! Love your explanation! So interesting that days of the week has a general theme all coming from celestial bodies and/or ancient chinese elements. Similar to Japanese, as well as the romance language too, they are ordered the same way! Weol, Hwa, Soo, Mok, Geum, To, Il - 月、火、水、木、金、土、日 - moon, fire, water, wood, metal, earth/ground, sun - moon, mars, mercury, jupiter, venus, saturn, sun In romance languages its the same order - Spanish/French/Italian Lunes/Lundi/Lunedi Martes/Mardi/Mardi Miercoles/Mercredi/Mercoledi Jueves/Jeudi/Giovedi Viernes/Vendredi/Venerdi Sabado/Samedi/Sabato Domingo/Dimanche/Domenica English, German, and other Germanic languages, the order is just the Norse god instead of the roman god representing those planets. Hindu based languages and Southeast Asian languages uses the same order and nomenclature. Seems like the days of the week are named after the seven celestial bodies in the same order across many languages. Great way to learn the days of the week in multiple languages by remembering these orders. Would love to see the history behind the reason for this ordering, especially from a Korean standpoint! I venture to guess there's a specific astronomical phenomenon that the days of the week are named in that order. :D
