I had the slot car set, and even bought extra cars. I was selling all kinds of nascar and sprint car stuff. I gave up around 92 what they started banning things like the alcohol and tobacco advertising, and away went WINSTON cup
A great review! David here I was born in 1955 So slot cars were a big part of my childhood. I guessing that Tyco didn’t do a lot of research on the movie, and they wanted to get this set out as fast as possible to go with the movie. Thanks 😎
I remember something even more obscure this. Believe it or not Tiger Electronics released a Days of Thunder LCD handheld game. I remember my aunt would get pissed when I played it in her car because it was so loud! 😢
YAY!! First comment. I haven't played with a slot car since I believe 86 or 87. Hours of fun. RC Cars...8.4 and 9.6 batteries...pure power especially when you get into RC upgrades like carbon fiber chassis.
I brought my Tyco Magnum 44X2 Champion, night glow set .In 1991 at Toy-R-US for 99.99 dollars new. I use that set everyday for racing.. added more track..in all about 90’ feet of track. I have different power supply and handles. And added about 50 Tyco cars to the collection. I still just love these old Tyco stuff 😊
Monogram Models, now called Revell put out 3 plastic model kits. The City Chevrolet Lumina, the Mello Yello Lumina and the Hardee's Lumina. All 3 were 1/24th scale. Also notable, Slixx Decals after which made separate decal sheets that when used together you could potentially make the Super Flo car and the Exxon car. Slixx did it that way on purpose to avoid copyrights. I know this because I spoke to them at the time. I needed to know to build the whole set. Also I know this because I own a trade mark and copyright. If someone else makes something similar, then it's legal as long as it's 20.1% different. I still have some of the models in my shed or in my modeling office somewhere. I hope this helps. 😊
Parma made a 1/10 scale remote control car kit of the Mello Yello lumina and decal sheets of every car in the movie. Monogram made 1/24 scale models except Rowdy's Exxon car. Parma also made hobby grade1/32 scale slot car decals and a rtr Exxon car.
Hey I have a set u don't show. I actually have two of them. One of them has a misprintbon the black 51 car. It's missing it's numbers on one of the sides
Mine still works today - though the flags in the guardrails and the grandstand cardboard did not survive the test of time...We bought several additional cars - Earnhardt Sr and Irvan in the Kodak car, a Petty set, and a couple transporters...the pickup shoes can get worn and cause connectivity issues, you occasionally need to lightly sand the grime off the track itself, but it all still works - well. And you don't exactly have to stick to the original setup - we had many different variations of oval tracks as we used our young minds to experiment and have hours of fun...
Great job again. I have added both of your channels. I had one of the buggies back in my youth before the recharging battery was a thing. I only got to use it with new batteries once. my parents never got me new batteries after the Christmas I got it. For slot cars I had the AFX devils Ditch. But slot cars are mainly the same
