Let's go back to the days when there was no race involved, no political statements, and no male or female bashing. Give us great music like this again. Love this song by The Dazz Band. A pleasure to see both white and black people dancing together.

Race was always present, non-white people simply didn't have the same access to express the things they experienced. I would prefer to not go back to less tolerant times, but hey, be a bigot :)

The Dazz Band are from my hometown. I am very luck to have been a Teenager lady in the 80s. We had the best music bands ever,lets see we had of course The Dazz Band, The Gap Band,The SOS Band, Midnight Starr,Con Funk Shun, Atlantic Starr,Cameo,Earth Wind & Fire, Klymaxx, and The Barkays,so many great bands. And the 70s,well the list would be too long for me to write all of the greatest Bands ever in the History of our Planet.

"Let It Whip" is a song released on February 12, 1982 by the Dazz Band and their biggest hit, peaking at number one on the R&B chart for five non-consecutive weeks. The single also reached number two on the Dance chart and number five on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.The song won the 1982 Grammy Award for Best R&B Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocals. The Dazz Band is an American R&B, funk band most popular in the early 1980s. Emerging from Cleveland, Ohio, the group's biggest hit songs include the Grammy Award-winning "Let It Whip" (1982), "Joystick" (1983), and "Let It All Blow" (1984). The name of the band is a portmanteau of the description "danceable jazz".

Even though it was a lip-sync, I just love how the Dazz Band still belted it out and gave it everything, playing up to the cameras with their tight choreography. BTW, they really were singing, it was just to dead mics and their record played over the loudspeakers with the live mics picking up the dancers' wild applause. This was why AB still had that live element even with the low budget and lip-sync restrictions.

I grew up in those dayz and there is definitely a difference, The whole theme has changed. Music was a professional skill that was driven from the heart. Songs meant something real, not fantasy. Talent was driven to the front of the stage along with style and elegance. Songs were sung from the diaphragm and lungs and the words would stick you right in your soul. You not only heard it but you could literally feel it. The mere thought to compare real talent of this nature to anything past this period is just the lack of experiencing what it was like to live through this era. I have lived through all five decades of music transitions and the 70's-80's are simply untouchable.

I will always be a fan of the 70s & 80s music and I still listen to that music,that is why I am on here now watching music videos of the 70s & 80s.

Kim Workman The song was released in early '82 and was #1 on the R&B chart, #2 on the Dance chart and hit #5 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. This song also came in at #29 for the 1982 year end countdown on American Top 40 with Casey Kasem. I would assume late 82' when this was on AB.

@rbeygarcia
@rbeygarcia 9 лет назад
sean moore The first 20 bars are identical. Are you serious? I always remember having to wait that entire minute to figure out if it was gonna be their song or Michael's. It's no secret that Michael sampled/jacked grooves and beats to construct his songs (he famously walked up to Daryl Hall and said Sorry I jacked "I Can't Go For That" to do the bassline of Billy Jean", But it could've been them who were inspired by him. The songs were released the exact same year. This goes back to producers and engineers who work with different artists and take one style from here to there.

"The music of Black people" ???? I dont know if I am flattered or insulted. Flattered in a way (because we all knew it was different. Thanks for the acknowledgement). Insulted in another way, because I thought it (we, you, me) are more "American" than Black! Do we reallly want to be so blatant in differentiating? Thumbs down on this video for his comment. Forgiven, though, because this was a long time ago. Imagine that. Black people music (as opposed to White people music...). Kind of made my stomach feel funny. (0:14)

@gmfd76
@gmfd76 8 лет назад
+Karolyn Issup Well, Karolyn, you'll notice that the video has multiple quick edits--and it seems that it happens right at the quote in question. I don't know if that was done intentionally (was it, Skip Martin?), but it makes it sound a little more racist than the original comment probably was. We'd have to see the master tape to know for sure but I absolutely believe that Dick Clark had an affinity, passion even, for jazz, r&b, disco, and all other "black" music and would never knowingly insult someone on that level. :)
