Questions:
Is ASM is mandatory to configure RAC database?
How ASM and Database communication happens?

--- For 4 node RAC database to run and operational then how many ASM Instances are needed?
--- In case if we have multiple RAC databases are running on ASM then how many ASMB background process are needed to support those RAC databases?
--- Can I have higher patch level on RDBMS and lower patch level on ASM?

1. We need maximum of 4 instances but we can stop the instances in 3 nodes with crsctl stop crs and the surving node should be fine. 2.1 asmb instance for asm and depending on the number of instances the asmb process for database ex : 2 instance 2 process. 3. Ideally no based on your explanation but not sure 😊

1) you should have asm instance locally in each node if you want run rdbms instance on that node. If you have flex asm instance, it's not needed to run asm instance on each node. 2) 1 process for all days but it has many slave processes to serve for days. 3)both has diff binaries. So no issues.

ASM is not mandatory. All we need is shared file system for RAC.

dont mislead,in the start only you given incorrect information,ASM is not mandatory for RAC,its recommended by oracle but other options can be used for shared storage/file system ,its also possible to use RAW Devices instead

No no sir its not misleading but.. Asm is highly recommended while using oracle db.. Ys it's true that u can use other forms of storage but big companies are using asm

Ans 1 : will require 4 asm instance running on each node. ( but i have one doubt that observed database running without asm1 so yes it can be that database on node1 can be up and running with help of other instances asm2 within same cluster. I guess we should make sure cluster service are properly up ). Ans 2 : in your case, will have total 22 asmb process Ans 3 : yes you can have.

one ASMB process per database instance per ASM instance. For example, if you have 4 database instances and 2 ASM instances, you would need 8 ASMB processes in total.

3:- answer we can apply higher level patch but not recommended....

1. All 4 ASM instance should run in all the nodes. 2. If we are having 3 RAC databases running with ASM instance the totally 4 ASMMB background process used to run. 3. No because ASM patch should equal or higher than RDBMS patch set.

Ans1 : we configure 4 node with ASM , Every node need ASM instance. Once we configured with ASM out all nodes , ASMB Background process mandatory running and Communicate with RDBMS instance. So condition if need to down 3 nodes with a plan activity... Abously we have available node run with in the ASM and ASMB Background process... So here every node need own ASMB Background process... As of knowledge I am telling this. ANS 2 : ASM version and RDBMS version have the some months difference... ASM patch is lower version compare with RDBMS instance... This is not recommended and not supported.

1) If we stop ASM then related instance will not function... So to run all 4 instances we need all 4 ASM instances running on their nodes. 2) Probably there will be different Asmb process for each db 3)May not be possible this Please note I dont have hands on experience in RAC yet😅

Dhaivamae nee ingayum vandhutigala 4 PB maximum storage for each Oracle ASM disk with the AU size equal to 1 MB. 8 PB maximum storage for each Oracle ASM disk with the AU size equal to 2 MB.

size of ASM means ? asm instance have very less memory ,sga footprint,as such asm instance will not have much size,its diskgroups/asm disks will have size maximum in PB depending on its external redundancy or other
