3DAeroventures has collaborated with DBT Aero to develop a fully 3D printed, 1/6th scale version of their unique Synergy airframe.
DBT Aero is Shaping the Future™ through a family of ultra-efficient airframes that bring affordability, sustainability, high speed & unique payload capabilities to personal, business, cargo, military & recreational aviation. The patented “green wings” Double Box Tail (DBT) configuration is the best hope for high speed, electric Regional Air Mobility (RAM). This project shows the application of advanced additive manufacturing (AAM) techniques to build an unmanned, scale version of the full scale, manned Synergy Prime aircraft currently in development. A 3D printed aircraft can be repaired or modified as easily as pressing the print button. Welcome to the future of aviation.
This is just the first step in an ongoing development project. Stay tuned to DBT.aero/ to learn how we’re turning this aircraft into an autonomous drone or UAV as a testbed for future commercial applications.

Thanks for watching man. I wish I could. But the design is owned by DBT Aero and it's proprietary so I can't share the files.

Perhaps you could make a deal with DBT to where you can sell the files as you normally would but the funds from the purchase would be split up between yourself and DBT, that way by hobbyists buying your ⅙ scale version would in turn be helping fund DBT and their projects. Maybe have the files licensed in such a manner that if anyone tries to share them the files could be traced back to the purchaser an be fined.

@@TheArtyTechlove your idea man, I am a sheet metal worker and I would love to be involved in making at least a scale version of this! Don't have money but I do have the perfect skills and workshop to make scale versions of this! Just love box wing designs cause they utilise every surface for lift, control, strength and thrust! Anyone that wants to educate or talk to me about this is welcome 😅

That is an awesome build, hats off!! I am glad to know the company is still around. I was smitten the first time I looked at the design of this aircraft years ago, read all about in the old Synergy website, where they laid out all the benefits of double box tail, positive wing-elevator biplane interference, subsonic area ruling, powered drag reduction, and speed and efficiency numbers that would raise some eyebrows. The claims were tall, but the design just looked promising even at a glace. If the plane does come to the commercial general aviation market in the near-mid future and delivers on the speed and efficiency claims, owning it would be my personal goal. How fast it go compared to other RC of same power, weight and wingpsan?

The drone shots in the intro with that music lifted my heart up and let it fly. She's an absolute beauty!! To me it is really impressive how fast we can iterate nowadays with 3D-printing!

Great job. I understand the efficiency gains here. Box wings eliminate tip losses and can help to reduce structural weight thus efficiency up. I guess the large diameter prop can help too. A lot of companies focus on EVTOL for good reasons but traditional take off and landing could eliminate the huge energy thus range costs for electric planes. So I think there will be room for both

Yes sir! Love the magnets! Tgis was one of the first off the shelf grabs for me when i started redesigning er upgrading existing UMX birds. It's affordable for me and just what i got back into the hobby with. Your builds are amazing! I realized after seeing the B-17 a few minutes ago that I had watched one of your first videos, a few of them actually. The little pushers and the eclipse something the other box type continuous wing. I left a comment for the B-17, I did not read descriptions i just click the videos. I just realized that you may not sell all your designs, I hope you do. I hope I'm able to het this bird its Beautiful. I love the story and mission of this design, excellent videos buddy really good job with music, narration you have the voice, the video. I think I was a sub @ the B-17 but I had already clicked this video before, thank you so much for creating and sharing buddy.

Wonderful job... congrats. Have you talked to DBT Aero about making the model available? This would be the talk of any airfield, which I think would help the company change how the world looks at aviation. It looks like it could be easily modified for an EDF as well.

Thanks for the kind words David! They aren't wild about releasing digital design files given the proprietary nature of the design. But they are interested in doing an R/C version at some point, most likely a foam ARF or ready-to-fly version.

Lovely work. I'd be interested in your experience printing with LW-PLA -- have you developed any particular techniques to stop stringing and ooze etc? Tom Stanton made a couple of videos around printing wings in foaming PLA and found he had to develop a workaround to trick the slicer into printing wings with no filament retractions.

In scale I would be concerned about yaw from torque, maybe counter-rotation props? Anyway it's an absolutely brilliant design that looks like will be a great GA addition.
