Your guys' excitement for this is a tonic! It's good to hear from fans about what makes this better than just another event/relaunch. Every comics site/blog just looks like a press release at the moment, so it's nice to have some thoughtful commentary. I really hope it does end up being something special and well developed. DC is capable of doing some great, wide-ranging stuff; it just feels like it's been a while since they've pulled that off. I've never subbed to a Batman line, and this will probably be me taking a chance to give it a go. Even if it turns out to be nothing too amazing, it'll be fun to see where they take it. Superman looks fantastic from a creator perspective, even though I don't enjoy long-haired Supes in general. I've seen a lot of fans calling the current runs from DC as part of a new golden age for Superman comics, and I hope the Absolute line only adds to that. Can't wait to hear your feedback as these come out. I'll be adding at least a few of them to my pull list too!

Thanks for sharing your perspective. Hopefully these new versions of the trinity can bring in some new readers and give some older readers a different storyline to get invested in. Overall I think we are both excited because DC needed to do something and at least this is an attempt to do some fresh storytelling. We shall see how it goes but it is nice to have something to be looking forward to.

24 years ago The Ultimate Universe was a chance to get in on the ground floor of Marvel characters that had been around for over 30 years. And it was exciting to be able to jump into spider-man from the beginning. And at the time it seemed like those books would go on indefinitely. Absolute DC does not seem like that is where they are going with it. It’s like they are using the Ultimate concept to tell another Crisis Event. I don’t get the feeling that Absolute Batman is a new Continuity that will go on for years to come. ( that sentiment would be very enticing). I think Absolute DC is a way to establish different versions of these characters so that they can be used to tell a limited story. I could be wrong, I hope I’m wrong. I loved the original Ultimate Universe so I hope Absolute adopts the same characteristics.

It will be interesting to see if this is intended to be a long term solution or something that is like you suggest a temporary concept. Overall it will be a bit exciting so see if DC can bring something to these characters that resembles the original ultimate universe. Thanks for sharing your thoughts!

@@RMLitegrade May I ask How can you we keep reading a on going continuity where characters never age ETC...... Why Does DC and Marvel keep adding stories to this one continuity. Haven''t they learned anything from BTAS. having a universe whhere characters age and die...... then after you are done, you move onto the next universe. When you have a Batman were 50 different events have happened to him.. it takes away from the story. I would rather have a timeline where batman back is broken by Bane but in another he dies by Darkside and in another Batgirl stays crippled......
@RMLitegrade

@@ChosenOne-il4bm There is some great stories like you point out with Batman the animated series and even arkham batman which age up the character and pass on the legacy of that character, or just flat out reboot and there is a ton of merit to that type of storytelling. I think the bigger issue is that, we didn't really see this amount of character fatigue with the classic characters until the last few years, because it seems like creators now are either unable/unwilling/not allowed to tell smaller scale stories that don't need end of the world, status quo altering events. Batman from his debut to in the late 30's to the late 90's certainly didn't seem to weighed down by continuity, but in the last 15 or so years a ton of characters seem to have had that happen, and that largely seems to be because in modern comics, there is always a tendency to kill characters off, revive them, or have other huge events that should permanently change the character happen once every year and eventually that strains credulity in a major way. Totally believe that by focusing on smaller stories with more personal instead of world ending stakes the big 2 could keep characters fresh, or by simply actually committing to major stories, for example, allowing batman to get married and start a family with catwoman or something like that could keep the character around and open up tons of avenues for new storytelling. Instead largely it seems like there is no personal development allowed for a lot of characters who have to go through massive events only to always get reset and that seems to be struggling. Regardless I think they certainly could adapt the method you believe in as well and get results either way. Thanks for sharing you opinion, always great to hear what folks are thinking!

I don't mind the Absolute Batman costume, yes he has a rectangle on his chest but the costume has a "less is more" kind of change to it, he even has trunks! (sincere cheer) What ruins the look for me is how big he is. He looks like Brock Samson nothing against Brock, I love Venture bros. I just can't help but feel like i'd enjoy the costume more if Bruce's body looked more like Henchman 21 for the later seasons of Venture Bros. Gary Fisher has muscles but also has 20 - 30% body fat. A Batman with that body type would be a real underdog!
@RMLitegrade
@RMLitegrade 2 месяца назад
The costume is a decent design and is largely still recognizable as batman so it certainly works and some of the panels of dragotta's art look great so it could certainly work. Batman looks more like Juggernaut or hulk hogan than bruce wayne so it will be interesting at the very least. Although will say scott snyder did well with he character before so there is a good amount of trust there.

I like to think I have an open mind, so will wait and see. But if I was in charge of DC I'd be focusing first on addressing the basic problems that we all agree on here - prices are too high, there needs to be more quality control and there needs to be more continuity in terms of stories and creative teams. You can't build a solid house on shaky foundations. So rather than tackling the main problems, this strategy just seems to be to avoid/distract from them. Saying that, I will always be interested in checking out what Snyder is writing and maybe some of it will be good, like Marvel's recent Ultimates reboot. Thanks for the video, I always enjoy them! Stuart.

This certainly does seem to be a reboot that ignores a lot of the issues, price point looks to be confirmed to be still too high, yet another multiverse added and even more titles to collect for fans to try to follow. Positive potential is that maybe the absolute line will be manageable and only a few books that new fans can jump into and maintain its own continuity for fans to follow. Thanks for watching!

Gotta say I'm very cautiously optimistic about this new 'Absolute Universe'. I've really been loving the new Ultimate Universe (enjoying BP and The Ultimates through print and others through unlimited) and would like to see how DC shakes it up. However, I will say that I'm hesitant to pick anything up on release, since unlike with the ultimate universe I don't hold any strong ties to these characters' series and don't wanna get thrown in for a time I'll only half enjoy. Here's hoping that these Absolute titles are as good as the Ultimate titles, especially Absolute Superman, which if as good as Ultimate Spider-man, will be my go to title. Also hoping to see how they bring in other characters since they have the chance to make them more interesting than ever, specifically with background or ignored members of the league. A top tier Absolute Aquaman or Absolute Martian Manhunter (just throwing some names out there) could really take these characters to new heights. And as a last statement I would just love to say that while they may be pipe dreams I'd love to see Absolute titles for some of my personal favorites Hal Jordan (as GL, or hell maybe even spectre), Wild Dog, vigilante, Peacemaker, Shazam, Red Robin or even the Atom (Ray Palmer). This is a huge opportunity for DC so i hope they can pull it off and show us that they know what they're doing.

Would be great if they can stick the landing on these if eventually it could grow, some of the characters you mentioned like Ray Palmer have been benched in the main universe for way to long so hopefully we can get to see them in this universe.

I didn't think I'd witness the end of DC in my lifetime but here we are. This feels like the end of the road. Even the title feels desperate. Other people have pointed out that these characters are gonna hit the public domain soon so DC probably has to give WB a REALLY good reason to keep them around. Thats most likely why they're doing this. But I don't think anyone really cares. DC has shot themselves in the foot SO many times that most places I go are in agreement that this is going to fail.

I have "Absolutely no faith in this new universe and "Absolutely" no excitement for it(I'll stop with the bad puns). One outcome I could see is this going the same way the New 52 did. It will have a good first couple of years and then be completely derailed. The majority of writers they have chosen for this new universe I'm personally not a fan of(some of them are just downright bad writers). As much as I liked Scott Snyder's New 52 Batman and Swamp Thing run, everything after those he's done I've not been a fan of (Especially that terrible "Dark Knights Metal" ugh). He's also a massive Batman Fanboy so with him being in charge of this universe I can see it being full of more bat worship with Batman going to be overshadowing every character, which is already a problem in the main continuity.

I mean, the answer is obviously no. I don't why the question even needs to be asked. We have every reason to be certain this will fail and very little reason to think that it wont. DC has a very strong historical record of utterly fumbling the ball every time they try copying Marvel. This isn't even pessimism. This is just basic pattern recognition. Absolute power is already a flop. So why should the thing it's leading to be any better? You'd have to be a very delusional person to not see the writing on the wall. DC is out of ideas. This "All IN" nonsense is just the last gasps of a dying company doing everything it can to stay afloat. But the reality is their ship is sunk and there are no life boats around. They're gonna drown and they did it to themselves.
