The Spectre hugging anyone makes me severely uncomfortable.

I remember reading the original Infinity Inc. series by Roy Thomas and Jerry Ordway. That was my introduction to the JSA. I miss the days when heroes were to busy fighting the forces of evil. Anybody else remember when that used to happen in comics?

Sheridan is a hack. This is absolutely the worst written I have ever seen the Spectre, a character I have been reading for over years. This whole deal is like a prank on DC fans.

The Spectre's "logic' here is the same tired nonsense conflating love and sexual desire; and his position on "religious ideology" is laughably simplistic. At the end of the day this comic is nothing but an RL-cope and hack-job trying to foist an agenda on readers. No thanks. They'll argue that low sales are "evidence" of various 'phobias and 'isms, but these folks are neither qualified nor capable of lecturing on anything, let alone real issues affecting real people, via an entertainment medium.

Alan Scott is straight as an arrow. The man knocked up one of his female villains and married another. If anything, it would have made more sense to have Scott come to grips with his son Obsidian being gay. Long-time spectre fan here. The character in this comic who goes by that name is NOT the Spectre, it’s a gay fan-fiction reimagining of him. This character speaks nor acts like the spectre I grew up with, therefore it is not the same character. Same goes for Sheridan’s fan-fic version of Alan Scott. What a ham-fisted joke

Seems to me that a wiser writer wouldn't have put definitive judgement in "The Presence's" mouth that would so obviously reflect the writer's own values with no regard to deeper implications (such as basically condemning anyone who's ever opposed that orientation in the past several thousand years).

Everyone is out of character. And just as heartbreaking as it is, seeing my favorite universe of characters torn down, someome is going to defend this. Someone is going to try to educate all "bigots", despite it being clear that everyone involved in making these books are constantly trying their best, to change everything, and push away older fans. If you know the characters, and love them, current stories are likely to upset you, because everyone is out of character, and the creators admit it. More abd more fans are either going elsewhere, or are just subsisting on back issues. It's not worth it, picking up or paying for newer books. Any decent, to passable book, is surrounded by a truckload of terrible ones, and it's not worth getting invested, in the universe.

Man, this was hard to watch. And it's not because of you, Wes. It's because of what is being displayed in those pages. And they wonder why they continue to struggle in sales.

If the printer of DC comics (LSC Communications) realizes that DC comics will continue to have this type of "storytelling" published---whether or not there is an audience for it and regardless of whether the comic books make a profit or not---then the printer should start charging a premium price for producing DC's comic books. The paper, the ink, the entire printing process should command top dollar from the comic book company bankrolled by a major corporation that has deep enough pockets to continue DC's operations. A 10% increase in printing costs beginning in January, 2024 shouldn't be too much for DC to handle if they want to get their stories published.

Step back in time about five years and you would have had an original character like Midnighter and Apollo where the writer could put as much as themselves and their experiences into their own story as they wished and there would have been a underground audience for it. Taking existing characters and transforming them is a power play.

I bought the 80th Anniversary gl comic...it had a cool picture of guy gardener, my fav gl. The first story is how alan scout went to the guy he loves mom house to tell her how much he loved him and how he died...it was so cringy i tossed the comic in the garbage...im not letting my don read a gay slice of life drama romance..it was weird..it was just him on a steam train telling the guy you nurn in my heart like that train furnace...the other guy was like use that fire and except you feelings and thats how he got his power by accepting hes gay..wtf

Dc is culturally appropriated again, as they are making a lot of skinwalker characters now. Their writers are creating more and more new characters that they want to see star in their books and instead of doing just that their turning to established characters, ripping the skin off them, throwing the remains in the bin and putting the flesh over their oc’s. Worse still is just how blatant they are being with it, Alan Scott and Tim Drake before him, their not even trying to hide that beyond the name and look these characters have nothing to do with who had come before them before their skinned bodies hit the bin. I dropped out of the English program for my Master's degree because of the nonsense they were teaching. The professors were utter whack-jobs. Their intent was to destroy history by way of making everything subject to personal opinion, so long as you agreed with them. The politics was extremist - pro-communist and the really hated Americans, capitalism, individualism, and on and on. My father was a professor of political science and in his department it was a rule not to let the students know what their politics were. The students had to find their own way and the professors had to be unbiased. What's happening to popular culture today happened to the visual arts and literature back in the 90s - the full on takeover of utterly talentless people, supplanting those who could actually paint and write. And now grifter culture has spread to Hollywood and beyond in the popular culture world. Good luck with fighting the onslaught. Nonsense is a monster and striking him down is like punching a ghost.

I think you give them two much credit. Don't think anyone took a moment sat down to think about it, they just did it without thinking about it. Given western comic pros, tend to have egos greater than god. With a strong belief whatever they do is the correct thing. Speaking of badly done DC stories, I recently remembered a terrible Supergirl plot line I heard about years ago. If anyone here remembers the storyline I’ll be describing, please tell me if I heard a distorted version of what happened or if it really was that bad. The story occurred sometime after Infinite Crisis. Supergirl (the version introduced in the Batman/Superman series) had begun dating this New God named Power Boy (if I recall his name correctly). Power Boy eventually became a full-on abuser, physically attacking Supergirl, insulting & demeaning her, and blaming all of his wrongdoings on her. Now this could have been a powerful and poignant storyline. How did they ruin it? By saying *it was all Supergirl’s fault*. They actually claimed that Power Boy wasn’t really responsible for his actions because he fed off emotions, and so he only went berserk because Supergirl was so negative. Yep. If what I’ve heard is true, they actually went the “Your partner is only abusive because you made them that way! If you’d had a better attitude, this wouldn’t have happened!” route. With so many abuse victims in the real world having their trauma brushed aside by idiots saying things like, “Well, you must have done something! You should start trying harder and then your partner will start being nicer to you,” this is absolutely atrocious.

I had to take a look and I confirmed Marino and Kubert were two of the people responsible for the laughable DC Round Robin gimmick DC did in 21 and 22. I'm not surprised that these two are "shepherding" this book. There is no question that both of them are explicitly supportive of what is going on in this book.

This is the utter, purposeful desecration of a hero. He is no longer a "hero" on any level. This, and most of the other forced gay characters, read as if the most homophobic person was writing them to hit on every bad stereotype. Back in the day, more than a few times, I had gay friends who wouldn't even go out in NYC when the pride parade was going on bc "they didn't want to even see that bullshit". It has been stated that the spectre(manifestation of God's wrath) senses the desire of vengeance of wronged souls. It has also been stated the the spectre has never actually spoke to the presence in person. The is nothing in common between the spectre and whatever Sheridan is writing. Also, it is sad to see what Sheridan is doing with mentor and father-figure of Hal, John and Kyle. Just sad how the character's legacy is tarnished

I don't think they've lost their minds. I think they feel they're playing the very, very long game. They are trying to attract Gen Z and younger, who are obsessed with sexual identity above all else in life. The older, straight people who bought these comics traditionally are the short game in their minds, and so they don't care about them and are happy to drive them away in favor of an audience they feel they will eventually attract and that will be with them for decades.

These woke DC (and Marvel) writers and editors aren't clueless, they know what they are doing. It isn't just about completely changing a character, it's about getting in your face while making these (unnecessary) changes. They ultimately don't care if they kill interest in these characters or in comic books in general because, to the SJW's, the comic book industry is an illegitimate, white male-dominated industry that belongs on the scrap heap of history. If they lose their gigs at DC/Marvel, they figure they'll land a job at some other Marxist org that only hires fellow travelers, so no big deal if the comic book industry goes under. The culture wars are real.
