Was born way later than blue and grey comic era for Batman, but I did grow up with the brave and the bold cartoon so I’m still a sucker for that design
After thinking about it, I feel like I am leaning Catwoman as my favorite of these. The claws help overcome the annoyance of none of these having accessories. Still, Sinestro's a solid second with that face and the sadistic looking open hand on the right, kudos to the sculptors for that.
I had to get the Knightfall Catwoman figure for sure. I made that my mission. They look epic in my opinion and I feel like they were completely necessary purchases. Had to be done lol.
I love love love love the essentials line and dc direct zombies 🧟♂️ 😍. The on gryfe is really the same exact body molds. I think it was perfect on supes. Loved Kara.
I’ve come across your reviews recently as I’ve gotten back into DC collecting ( after a long hiatus ) they’ve been a big help, and I’m a big fan! Could you tell me how the Hal compares to the Blackest night Green Lantern figure?
That Batman’s color scheme is so nice. Body mold still means I’m passing on it. Tho it is inspiring me to want to make a Batman custom with that kind of blue... hmmm
One flaw that is bugging me is that Sinestro's yellow lantern emblem is off center! Like, by a lot. And Batman's too, although not as noticeable with him. This is a really good looking wave though. Saw Green Lantern in the store and passing. His gloves look like half arm sleeves due to the gorilla arms from the articulation of the Essentials buck. Ridiculous. The gloves accentuate it.
Awesome. I plan to pick up 3 of the 4 this week. Something doesn't sit right with Hal's costume to me. Maybe the green should have come down a little more around his waist.
I personally won't get any essentials as is. I'm a six inch collector, but I have to say, the sculpting on the heads for all of the ones they've done are just amazing. Would work well for customs.
In theory, these ankle joints should work perfectly. They're standard with a lot of import lines, but here it's a mix of them being too big and just weird detents.
They are ratcheted too, which didn't really seem to be as much an issue with the earlier figures. I'm thinking those ankle ball joints are a cheaper plastic.
I hope multiverse and essentials will do some more 90s style characters. We especially need an updated Azrael and huntress. If they do those 2, I'll probably go all in on it.
Hey Brad, great review! Do you have a breakdown anywhere on the customizations you made to the McFarlane Batman? Looks like you brought the height down a bit.
Since my last post was a bit tl;dr I'll just a say this, the ankle pegs are easily swapped and dc collectibles doesn't even have to change their design, just have the factory they're using make stronger ones and use a different softer, more rubbery plastic for the mounting pegs and it will eliminate any loosening that occurs from posing the figures. I don't care what anyone says, I love the line. Just give me the rest of the jl,jla, and Batman rogues.
My fear at this point is that we may not see any newly sculpted stuff from them anytime soon. I'll need to wait until ToyFair but so far the next two waves are pretty much just repaints.
I already got my Sinestro en route to me as we speak. But I may have to shell out for for that Hal Jordan GL now. He'll definitely look great with my Justice League group!
I have passed on all essentials before this but i have finally given in, that classic batman is really really nice, but $28 REALLY NO ASCESSORIES AND JUST CLOSED FISTS AND YOU EXPECCT US TO PAY $28... i really want it but i will probably wait until the price drops a bit
My favorite is the Hal Jordan figure. Hands down. Number 2 is, Knightfall Batman, number 3 is Knightfall Catwoman, and my least favorite is Sinestro. Primary because of the paint apps.
Hi Brad, I want to create my Justice League collection with different figures of different brands (Essentials Flash and Lantern, Mcfarlane Superman, Mattel Batman Wonder Woman) the difference in scale I planned to fix it by placing Superman and Lantern in flight position, while Barry a little crouched, what do you think?
Damn I told myself I’m doing this line cause I feel it’s half asses but that Hal and sinestro look so good. If McFarlane doesn’t do them soon I may have to pull the trigger on them. Hopefully mcfarlane does them and does them better. I’d rather stick to a line I think will go deeper in the long run
DC Essentials figures are awsome. I've been collecting them since wave 1 and I love all the figures so far. I picked-up Sinestro and catwoman and the figures didn't disappoint in any shape. Definitely planning on picking-up Batman and Green Lantern later this week.
What does that mean? McFarlane is mass market. DC Essentials are limited to hobby shops. If anything the DC Essentials are the ones that are "redundant". Or you could just say neither are redundant and be happy that they can work together at a similar scale.
Can't wait to get that batman. I love the line and for people having problems with the pegs used for the ankles they can be easily swapped out. You can buy a bag of over a hundred in varying sizes and colors for a few dollars from chinese eBay sellers or if you have some McFarlane figures you just bought for parts/fodder/to customize you can use the pegs from those. I really wish they would bring back the accessory pack idea but this time release each one for all the figures released in a particular wave. I haven't had any trouble with my figures getting flimsy from posing but I've seen too many reviews that blame it on these figures being made out of cheap plastic. As much as I enjoy majority of their content, those reviewers are idiots. The plastic used for these is very high quality, even someone with little to no knowledge should be able to tell that from just picking them up and lightly handling them. You can't tell me that they don't feel more premium in your hand than a marvel legends figure(no slight at them, they've released quite a few fantastic figures over the last few months, you just have to dig through a hundred useless figures to get to them). Anyway the problem with these is they're using the same harder plastic for all the mounting pegs which is why they loosen up. A softer, more rubbery plastic should be used for this. Anyway all the nerd stuff out of the way and back to the figures, can't wait for this batman(I have a soft spot for that sort of 80s classic blue and grey with the yellow symbol suit design and make it a point to get every well sculpted/designed 6-7" figure with that look that gets released. Also looking forward to lantern and sinestro, it's a shame that they have such a hard time making a great looking catwoman (imo) and I have to keep using marvel legend custom catwoman figures. I'm also really looking forward to the deceased line joker so I can take the head and place it on the regular joker body.
I like your reviews. I wish I liked these figures. There are just too many negatives for me to get on board with them as a whole. I’ve been mixing and matching Essentials with McFarlane and DC Direct. But I can’t buy in on essentials all the way. I don’t like the arm proportions and I don’t like that there is only one male buck. But if you have just one or two of them in a line up and you Mod them they look good.
Dude does Canada have a lottery or equivalent cuz you got lucky as hell not breaking that knightwing, I've had to glue something back on litterally every single dc direct and collectibles I've ever opened... p.s I can't wait to have to glue something on my Batman and catwoman as soon as I pick them up(probably elbows)!
Dont get me wrong, its cool that you customize the hell out of all of your figures, but to me the comparisons dont mean much when they are basically entirely new figures. Maybe buy an extra to keep vanilla for comparison shots? Its not the worst thing in the world, but for example, the main reasons I was looking forward to this video was to see how the Batman compared to the McFarlane, but your McFarlane Bats is so customized the comparison is moot.
I think it's fine in so far as usually, the body will be the same size as it was pre-custom, so you still get the same idea. I think the only thing that happened with Batman's size in terms of change is the head's a touch bigger now.
I dont like that hals gloves look so long . I might get him just because I feel like that Neca hal Is slipping my grasps! I sold my sinestros a long time ago to get this one I'm excited but DUDE DC ESSENTIALS MAKE A NEW FREAKING MOLD. The same mold for 3 years and they're imperfect and long Ahhhhhhh I might get the batman and hal if I can't get the neca versions for a reasonable price. Catwoman is my least favorite just cause these figures are so dam tall. If essentials want to do any justice make a freaking big bARDA IN SCALE DC ITS BEEN TOO LONG AHHH. Its frustrating being a DC fan. I'm also probably just gonna get the mafex catwoman she looks perfect that's how you do a DC fig as well with Neca
@@theextracrispycolonel9504 not for sure but when it does it's going to be 10 times better than this mess low accessories that doesn't make any sense they look nice but like I said I just wait for Todd's hopefully they mentioned something with his toy fair coming up I'm assuming but if so that would be good to get a second wave in the summertime or late spring spring
