I don't understand why. Batman Beyond is the one successful piece of media where Batman as a hero moved past Bruce Wayne and his family drama.

Heres my theory for why the industry doesn’t like Batman Beyond that nobody asked for, but to sum it up, the decision makers don’t like risky change. The “higher ups” don’t want to abandon Bruce Wayne and give the mantle of the Bat to anybody else. That in itself is a huge risk and would break the pattern they’ve had for decades. Beyond is more so of a “niche” for Batman fans, and they likely think that just because we like it, doesn’t mean the larger public will. Additionally they probably don’t like Terry. Terry shows the audience that basically anybody could be Batman. This would “devalue” Batman in the eyes of directors or whoever’s making the decision. I’m sure this was a message that the people in charge of the Batman Beyond Animated movie wanted to send like they did in Spiderverse. They likely don’t want to move on from Batman, at least for a long while unless Batman begins getting continuously slandered online. Bruce Wayne as Batman is mandatory in order for show runners or whatever to put trust into a Batman related project. Lastly, the setting of Beyond causes Batmans rogue gallery to essentially be gone. Batmans pantheon of villains have all proven to be recognisable and are arguably as important as Batman. They want to see Penguin, Two Face, Mr Freeze, and of course, Joker, who btw has no real impact on Beyond, further discouraging franchisors from giving their approval on Beyond. Beyond also has Bruce heal from his trauma, and a Bruce Wayne that moves on is not a Bruce Wayne that show runners want. If he does move on, there’s less interesting things to “write with” essentially. This is why Spiderman gets his life bent over and rawdogged with no lube in every movie or show other than Spiderverse. Honestly when you think about it Spiderverse is such a goated and genius movie. They broke the generic thought process these inauthentic and unimaginative creators had and literally said “imma do my own thing”, but that’s another topic.

Terry is the only sucessor i accept Like Dick doesnt need to be batman the entire reason why dick became nightwing was because he didnt want to be batman Jason being batman makes no sense because he doesnt like batmans ideologys Tim, honestly it just doesnt feel right Damion is the only one idm to much if done right like in the that zombie comics But the entire story of bruce stop being batman because he was old and almost broke one of his rules with no gun rule. And Terry becoming batman because he wanted to stop the same corrupt system that killed his father was perfect. Also his cowl is badass and bruce being the man in the chair and helping terry be batman was fantastic Also neo gotham feels new and like gotham all at the same time and i love it

Batman beyond is a hidden gold mine. Bruce Wayne being a mentor to Batman who still needs to grow as a person and hero is the definition of a good story.

I get the sense that they haven’t adapted Batman Beyond due to the themes of corporate greed seen in that. And considering WB’s track record, they’ve essentially become that, and probably don’t want to scare away the oh so precious executives and shareholders because they’d feel called out

I am skeptical that WB is ever going to give Terry Mcginnis the respect he deserves. Most executives think that if these popular characters don't directly translate to money, then these characters don't deserve any adaptations or their own games. The worst part about it though is that underrepresented characters can't make money, so they are passed up on opportunities to be represented causing this cycle, where most characters won't ever leave.

Damian wore a version of the Beyond suit years before Terry was born. Imagine Guts' Berzerker Armor but futuristic.

He's also basically DC's "Spiderman" characegr with the added benefit of the "Batman" title. Make it well, write it well, and market it well it will be a smash hit. DC doesn’t feel Terry McGinnus is a mainstream character. When anyone thinks of Batman, it is Bruce Wayne not Terry. At least that is what James Gunn says and why he won’t do a Batman Beyond movie. I think it is because there are two Batman franchises going on already and he doesn’t want to do a third one.

To be fair on the whole Batman beyond animated movie. I feel like that will still happen once the reeves trilogy is over and the dcu brave and the bold Batman is firmly established. Cause people don’t realize there’s a time place for everything and right now given that gunn is doing Batman brave and the bold along with green lighting the Matt reeves Batman trilogy it becomes to much over saturation of Batman if u add in a theatrical Batman beyond animated movie. Now don’t get me wrong I love Batman, he’s my fav superhero of all time and I would def take 3 different iterations of Batman franchises, more batman the better for me. but this is not about me and this is about the general audience

The last time Terry was the center-focus being in "Return of the Joker" is extra sad because the whole point of that movie is that everyone, from Bruce to Joker, doesn't think Terry is worthy of being Batman. And the big cathartic moment is Terry proving he is Batman, just his own version of Batman. A Batman who fights dirty when he has to and laughs AT the Joker while getting into his head making fun of him. Like Joker's never been in the lobby of a FPS game before. It's great, and after they reach that lesson in the movie, the real world hasn't wanted anything to do with him since, because he's not the "Real Batman". It's such schwarbage.

I’m going to go against the grain here. While Batman Beyond as an isolated concept is ok, I never want this to become the main continuity for Batman/Bruce Wayne because it destroys the Batfamily and unlearns any and all lessons that Bruce has learned throughout his life to become an edgy old man.

Ngl I haven't even watched Batman Beyond, I just know all about it and I used his skins in the Arkham Games growing up, or whatever game he was featured in. For ages I think the problem has always been that the executives at WB have always been working towards a Female DCU and the cancelled batgirl project was going to be their Batman Beyond. But perhaps we have been lucky. Perhaps once all the political shit in Hollywood blows over, and they need to make a film that is popular before being ideological, we will get our true Terry McGinnis Batman Beyond movie and it is delightful. 🤞

The Seqeul is focusing on Catwoman and it was revealed she and Bruce Wayne are Terry’s parent and Terry found out he is clone of Bruce Wayne. And Selina Kyle is the one who created Terry. That element was use Justice League Epilogue episode where Amanda Waller created Terry instead of Selina Kyle. The Sequel got scrapped because Return of the Joker didn’t do well finically and it was too dark. Oh 2000s, you are hypocrisy. So what do you think about Selina Kyle being the mother and creator Terry McGinnis? Imagining an Old Selina Kyle makes me think of the comic *Catwoman Lonely City.* That comic is really good you should check it out.

I don’t like the games we got. But I wasn’t digging the Beyond concept. No Terry. It seemed the main way of traversal wasn’t from flying with the suit or the futuristic Batmobile, but with a standard Bat-Bike. Damian was just gonna be here in a time-skip, which is just sad given the wasted potential of him and the League of Shadows post-Arkham City. And I fucking loathe the suit. It’s armored up and doesn’t even have a full mask…….Im glad it didn’t release

Are we also going to gloss over the fact that we also have another cool relatable teenager within the DCAU? Static. One of the best episodes was the crossover where Static gets sent into the future and meets a post-return of the joker Terry McGuiness.

Beyond was my childhood. Terry is my favorite Batman (yes, I prefer him to Bruce Wayne, like I prefer Nightwing to Bruce Wayne, come beat me up if you want), and seeing how DC chooses to just forget about him just makes me feel sad. I mean, they didn't even give a real ending to my boy (yeah I know Epilogue from JLU exists but it's not Batman Beyond's ending in my opinion, like I've seen lots of people say), the chances to write great stories with Terry learning and growing and being the badass he is are endless, people love him, his suit is the best Batman suit, but eeeh who cares, they make money with the stupid Harley Quinn show and straight up ugly movie with child lovers playing The Joker. Both DC and WB need to really think about what they're doing with everything.

I could be completely wrong, (and probably am) but it's two things fear and money. Outside of the comic fan and watcher of the DCAU Batman Beyond series McGinnis unfortunately isn't well known. And when you release a product like that you have to consider everyone. I feel like what worked for Into The spider-Verse was the variety of Spider-Men which, gave Miles Morales to shine. Anyways, I could go on and on. But I love Batman Beyond and trust me it frustrates the heck out of me. But hey I got a new Budokai Tenkaichi game. Anything's possible. Hopefully WB will learn from it's suicide squad disaster.

Agreed Batman Beyond is extremely underutilized even tough it was one of freshest and most unique take on the entire BATMAN idea for a very very long time. At first I hated the show and though it will be a boring but it really grew on me I really considered Terry to be one of the best inheritors of Batman's mantle until the DCAU dropped the ball of making him just a clone of Bruce Wayne. Why does it have to be so? Why do they always have to be related to someone to be a worthwhile character? The entire thing of being a hero is that even the "nameless nobody" character can rise up to the challenge and prove themselves because they want to do the right thing, not just because their lineage obligates them to. I still respect Terry very very much and feel sorry for him. The scene when Terry faced down the resurrected Joker and outdid him by just wits and cunning was just amazing! Really proved that Terry was his own fleshed out character but no... DC says he is just a clone...

It obviously DC’s and WB’s favoritism to Harley Quinn and they tried so hard to make her into DC’s Deadpool.

That Arkham game was not Batman beyond game. Its set in the future but none of the beyond villains are there, Bruce is still young enough to fight and that's clearly not the beyond suit if the cape wasn't a dead giveaway. I think its just a Damian batman game set in the future. Kinda like midway point between Bruce and Terry. Either way it would have been fun to play. Imagine if they had rideable Batcow or Goliath.

They dont at all because he is their cash cow my guy. Dc has very strict instructions on 3 of their characters and they guard them like hawks, thats batman, superman, and wonder woman. Batman is used alot now adays to promote lesser known characters, which is what marvel started doing with spiderman, because he is the face of the company.

I haven't watched the DCAU besides Superman the Animated Series and a handful of episodes of Static Shock and BTAS, but I think it would've been perfect if this Batman Beyond movie were like a Wakanda Forever type movie where the hero takes the mantle from a fallen hero he looked up to since Kevin Conroy died.

I actually think a Batgirl/Batwoman Beyond thing where they tweak Barbara Gordon slightly to be Gordon’s granddaughter and Batman’s protégé could be amazing. Like, Gordon died and some point and old man Bruce is training effectively Barbara but she’s you know, not like 10 years younger but like 50 lol. 🤷‍♀️ Like yeah, I like Terry… but that could be cool. Especially if it’s more “one and done.” Like, a movie trilogy at most. A single issue per month, year long comic. A 1 season (but like full American 24 episode season) show. Something like that. I do NOT think the concept works long term… but it could be one of the greatest things they’ve done in a long time if they keep it contained. Also, a proper Batman Beyond game could be cool… but I definitely want Terry. Damian sucks. Although, tbh, a proper Arkham sequel, especially one that retcons SSKTJL out of continuity? With THAT Talia being like, “Hey Bruce, you know that night you don’t remember? Yeah, I drugged you. Here’s your child. You killed his grandfather, and I run the League now, so you raise him.” And then we get like Cassandra Cain vs Damian since they have similar parentage and training in theory and stuff… but then we adopt Cass because she’s awesome and Damian sucks… I’d like that. I’d rather get like Arkham Legacy than Batman Beyond tbh… but I don’t trust it to be good considering who left Rocksteady during SSKTJL’s development. But IF it was GOOD?! Oooh!
