The bad spirit dwelling inside of a painting, sort of seemed reminiscent of Ghostbusters 2 to me. When John became trapped inside the painting, part of me thought it was lingering bad karma from when he broke time. This led to Zari becoming a cat and the other Legends turning into talking puppets.

Wait, if its that simple, how come the Romans didn't randomly break reality by going about their day and discovering a new spell as they gestured during conversations ?

Not 1st, but 2nd. The 1st 1 he got possessed in his old show. Couldn't remember which episode, but John let the Demon king possessed himself to save others.

@@shalomjonas1179 Yeah it is. Now John is powerless. Not too powerless but weaker. The expulsion spell drained the magical energy of all magical practitioners. So now he has to start all over again from scratch in order to regain his magical energy slowly. Like he said to Astra near the end of the episode said "Start fom the buttom & work my way up". So its not completely lost but drained. After Astra left the attic you can see the expression of his face that he felt sad & weaker inside & also he's still worried about Sara due of his strong between the 2. I'm started to feel a bit worried of him. Strong aliens that normal Humans can't, but all he has left its his wit.
