why do these old movies do such a great job at explaining vs new videos???
@cokbagus23
@cokbagus23 7 лет назад
i think its because its hard to make a video back then, so they have to think it through and revise every detail before screening? whilst now i can just pick up my webcam and explain.
@whatthefunction9140
@whatthefunction9140 7 лет назад
I think you are correct. I would love to see modern day remakes. Same script new graphics.
@gurriato
@gurriato 7 лет назад
+cok Bagus That is true, but some of the newer videos involve the creation of detailed 3D models and animations that also take a long time to produce, and they still can't hold a candle to these classics.
@whatthefunction9140
@whatthefunction9140 7 лет назад
these classic versions are presented as practical knowledge where new versions are often presented a theory.
@CUM2america

because making a video back then was a big deal only people who really knew what they were talking about had a chance to do it

The reason these old vids are so good, is that they were training films for young men enlisting or being drafted into the military. We rely on these young people to maintain our submarines,tanks, etc. They kept it practical and basic to get you into the field quickly.

@Tbone productions It's very good through about 13:30, then crashes and burns. The leap in background required to follow along jumps enormously, so that you have a very basic, sound video for the first 2/5ths, then a preposterous digression into shunt wound generators, then we go back to simple battery and magnet demonstrations around 17:40. Strange video indeed, but worthwhile in many respects.

It blows my mind the dumbing down of the world. We have modern CGI, yet these old videos from the past explain everything so much better.
@James1toknow

I was in the military and all their training videos are still like this. Very intuitive and direct, they set training on a step level and repeat information to drive it home and make it easy. I was in the Marines. It is good ya know.

I owe a debt of gratitude to the older generation for this......none of today's computer generated videos can match the quality of this instructional film....it's just so well presented and clearly explained. .., this old film taught me more about motors than any other crap videos put out on RU-vid.

I often seek older information sources regarding basic principles for their explanatory simplicity and their lack of reliance on unnecessary gimmicks such as cumbersome and overwrought animations. When I was teaching electronics years ago, my go-to video series was The Mechanical Universe and Beyond. The math might be a little thick for those uninitiated to calculus--especially in the episode on Maxwell's equations, but the animations are clean and perfectly complement the narrative.

guys, can we just take a minute to appreciate how well the animation was produced, i mean look at the rotors, mags, commus and current flows, it has everything and looks so familiar. can you believe they made this in the early 60s? just wow! and conceptually it did a good job as well, it conveyed every bit of info modern graphics can deliver, and i'd say it did even better than a lot modern ones. but, on another note, this probably cost a lot of tax money, and i say it's well spent... :b

This video is pretty amazing in that I am currently taking Electronics and Physics classes at night and the content in class is so convoluted that it is difficult to pull the simplicity of the presented material for comprehension. example: "The postman is walking, he is stepping at 75 steps per minute and each step is 150 cm high. If he had magnets on his toes and the ground was made of copper. he would create voltage. That is how generators work" That, of course, was an exaggerated example but yet not too off par.

This way of showing the schematics of a DC motor/generator is way better than the way my book try to explain, which is kind of more complex. This is exactly what I wanted as I wished to know the functioning before going ahead to the equations. Thanks!

Love these types of videos. You just dont find it anywhere in today's teaching where they would explain in simple terms and actually takes the effort to let us understand. Inspite of the usual boring stuffs to just explaining it and leave it for the "bright minds" to understand they do think about "us".

Starting at 25:00 this video explains very clearly how a train, subway or streetcar starts. For stop and go transportation DC is the most efficient. For long run, high speed transportation, AC is the best, higher voltage through thinner powerlines. Both AC and DC have their (dis)advantages for public transportation.
