James Gunn with consistent bangers! This show is so good. The humor is organic, the action is well choreographed, and much of the story being about empathy makes it great. I’ll never skip the opening credits. Also, I cannot believe Batmite is confirmed in the DCEU lmfao. What a damn shame Affleck is done after the Flash movie. Here’s hoping Gunn continues with the DC because I’d love more of his suicide squad or a Bloodsport series.
James Gunn is the master of endearing weirdo mascot characters. Rocket, Groot, King Shark, Eagley. I dunno how he makes all these dumb characters so cute and compelling.
1.Tim thts definitely not why marvel fired him. 2. Agree with everything else. This show kicks ass. But damn these are bad ppl. When tht lady shot tht bodyguard even after he named his wife and theyv been together like 17yrs! Why on earth is wala making her daughter work with them? Guess she trying to make her hard-core
I like this show, but like Andy, I don't love it. I wish some of the humour hit more for me and that the plot (regarding the butterflies) was a bit more original and not something from season 2 of Young Justice: If the butterflies were political enemies to Amanda and her organisation I would find it a bit more compelling/interesting.
This show isn’t great, I don’t even think it’s good, Cena is often fun but the rest of the cast are bad. This may be James Gunn at his worst. Oh my apologies Eagly is perfect but the rest are bad.
I have a theory about "dumb" humour or low-hanging fruit or whatever you want to call it - it can work, when it's paired with genuine emotion. James Gunn's work, shows like "My Name Is Earl" or "After Life", I'm sure there are other examples I'm forgetting, all strike a good balance between really stupid or crass and real feelings. Works a lot better than when it goes the mean, "punching down" route...
I personally enjoyed all 3 episodes. Only complaint I have is I am not feeling Harcourt. Nothing against the actor, her character just doesn't jive with me in this show. Going off that I think Nick is wrong saying she's the audience surrogate. Leota is definitely the surrogate. She's the fish out of water newbie, and the most normal of the bunch.
Funny you mentioned the back and forth between Peacemaker and Vigilante in episode 2. Gunn is great at making jokes funny, not funny, then funny again. It always circles back and I've seen that in a lot of his movies.
I must say that I am actually enjoying this show over any marvel or star wars tv show. I am actually looking forward to the next episodes. I think it's just the production quality and acting that is really making the difference for me.
I enjoyed the first 3 episodes. I just hope I don't get sick of every single person being a wacky character. The best part of Peacmaker is the fact that he was the crazy odd man out. So far he seems the most normal in the show.
This show is firing on all cylinders for me. Gunn’s music choices are so good, I don’t even skip the ending credits either. Love Vigilante the best, like Kevin said his movements are so good.
I didn't love this so far, I thought most of the jokes missed and I wasn't interested in the characters. I'm going to stick it out and see how the rest of the season goes, though. Love Gunn, Cena, and DC, so I hope it grows on me.
Really enjoying the show, and at this point I’m in for the whole ride. One of few but still prominent critiques I have is Gunn’s use of his das rock. Could just be that none of the songs speak to me nostalgically, and/or that they all song extremely similar; but I think it’s also that it’s soooo much of each song used. Almost every time it drags the scene’s pacing for me. I think it will be less grating or a non-issue as the show goes wk to wk
Nick Scarpino, I am shocked that you didn't give a shoutout to the actor that played the bodyguard that got shot. He was Buzz McNab from Psych. Feels like the number 1 Psych fan would have noticed this
I enjoy some of it. John Cena and some supporting cast members are entertaining, but the overall humor is so cringy in many instances. I get that Peacemaker is supposed to be an adult, who's mentally stuck in his teenage years, but man....the humor really feels too tried hard and not natural at all. Reminds me a lot of GOTG Vol.2 humor, where 1 out of 10 lines actually worked, but they just kept on going. Other than that, the action is solid, the cast have good chemistry and Cena is entertaing af
