Thanks, I was curious about these and some other cans you already reviewed as well. I'm sure you've heard about the upcoming Edition XS already, that should be interesting as well.
I totally disagree with the conclusion in this review. If your source is good, these cans are exciting and engaging, not just for background music. To me v-shaped is not exciting, just carved out. I want all the music, and these deliver.
I wish there was more headphones that didn't make you look like a pilot when out. These don't look bad but definitely a market they could corner more .
there are plenty of headphones like that, PLENTY, heck we have IEM's now, the problem is that with really high quality audio focus, fashion is secondary, it is what it is.
My Aeon RT closed tuned with one notch white and one notch black filter imo sounds fantastic! Hip Dac 2 for portable use drives them just fine. I only have the AKG 712 pro and Audeze LCDi3 to compare with, which are both in different price ranges and different build, but i prefer my Aeon RT c in terms of sound over both!
I think you are probably with a large percentage of people very impressed with the re tuned (rt) and the follow in eon 2 and negro, the x although I haven’t tried is somewhere I believe in quality of audio between rt and eon 2
@@manuelfrei7205 it’s different, it has the perforated/fenerated ear pads like on the aeon 2’s that seems to account for most of the difference but from all accounts there certainly isn’t enough in it to move from an RT to the drop X, i recon you would need to A/B them to notice much difference.
Just got the Aeon Closed RT (same headphone basically) for work, with my Fiio btr5 and balanced Hart cable. On the couch, I will definitely keep listening to my Ananda, which have much better bass extension and better detail overall and openness (obviously, they are open back) but the Aeon are very comfortable, look cool, excellent build quality, and just sound really sweet. Wish I had the Qudelix 5k instead of the btr5, though, to play with eq on the Aeon and get that sub-bass up.
Hi have you tried these with a more powerful amp, they are low impedence and sensitivity don’t think a btr5 of which I own and am a big fan has the voltage/current for these.
@@adrianmorrish8494 Using the stock single ended 3.5mm cable, I have to run the btr5 at full volume. It's loud enough in most situations, but I got a Hart balanced cable to get a little bit of overhead power out of it for when I want to really damage my eardrums. Also the stock cable is 6.5 feet long, too much cable for portable use.
I have these and reached the same conclusion regarding use. They're perfect for work. The design is brilliant, they’re light and very comfortable. Isolation is useful. A balanced cable makes them easier drive. I like them and think they’re worth the price. But I reach for something else if I want fun and interesting, usually an open back.
Thanks for another review, keep them coming! The main complaint people make about these DCA headphomes are the lack of dynamics and bass slam. The form factor is great, even better on v2 with folding mechanism.
@@laardvarkzilllions7955 it depends. Audeze headphones are generally good at this, Hifiman new planars are meh but still better than DCA. And original HE6 and v2 to some degree are great!
@@AliArghavan I have Hifiman Ananda and love them but haven't compared them to anything except DCA Aeon Closed RT (need closed backs for work), Senn HD650 (can't remember exactly as it was 2 years ago, but they were meh to me) and Audeze LCD2C which I found bloated with sub bass and requiring eq to come to life for me. I guess I literally don't know what I'm missing with the Ananda, but I want to find out if there is something more dynamic I would like better. I just love their tonal balance and transparency and soundstage and instrument separation compared to what I've heard. From what I'm reading about LCD-X and HE6SE, they could have what I love about Ananda plus better dynamics. Any other sub-$1000 recommendations?
@@laardvarkzilllions7955 by new planars do you mean the stealth versions or models, I like my bass but I really like the Hifiman house sound, I would like to try more of the Audeze models though, one day when the meets open up again in the UK I will put that right.
@@laardvarkzilllions7955 Focal Clear is fantastic for 990$ with probably the best dynamics and the tonality is very good too. the soundstage is less wide but overall I'd say it's an upgrade. For a direct upgrade though, you might have to look into used or open-box Arya for around 1000 to 1200$
I tested all of these at the same time and bought the Closed X because it was close enough to these and was a closed back. But yeah, I kinda miss the XS by comparison.
@@MrAyrit Sounds great, I just bought some Elegia's for $379 new from Adorama email offer, should be here tomorrow. I was considering them at $449 and the Aeon Closed X for $399. I couldn't resist $379 plus tax. Email also had the 660s for $299 and the HE560 V4 for $229. Probably would have bit on the 660S if I didn't alreay have some. Since I got some B stock Sundara's which I can't find any reason for the B rating a few weeks ago for $249 didn't know if the HE560 was really woth getting even though I think they do dig deeper in the bass. When and if the HE6SE offer comes along I'm curous what amp are you using to drive those monsters? Don't think my Geshelli 2W @32 E2 will drive those to their ability.
Thanks I was just waiting for the next price drop to buy these, I think I’ll give them a miss for my use case, not because I don’t think they are not a good headphone, could you use the dt for longer periods or is it too V?
I understand the last batch, don’t know about this one was only supplied with the white pads, you can buy sets from DCA though and they are not expensive.
@@MrAyrit well, yes, at least according to Dan Clark’s own website: “most lightweight headphones are plastic. Not ÆON. The headband and baffles are built from titanium alloy, aluminum and carbon fiber making them incredibly strong and reliable, yet among the lightest full size planar headphones on the market.” 😊
@@MrAyrit it’s not that critical of a point, honestly, I love your reviews - the sound is a lot more important to me than whether the baffle has real carbon fiber or not ☺️
What is the difference between this and the original Aeon Flow? I have such a hard time with this company, I wasn't to buy a set of Aeons, but I can't figure out which to buy. There's the X, the RT the Aeon 2 and the original Aeon. Can someone tell me the difference between original Aeon Vs the X/RT?
The differences will be in resolution between the Aeon and Aeon 2 series. The Aeon X and Aeon RT are for the most part the same, warmer versions of the original Aeon though one is from Drop (the X) and one you can buy from DCA directly (the RT) so different accessories, return policies and such between them. The Aeon 2 has a different, updated driver providing a bit more resolution/clarity. They have a slightly updated headband design as well making them compactable. The Aeon Noire, which I own, is an Aeon 2 Closed with different stock pads. The pads on the Noire are perforated on one side. I believe the Aeon 2 line can be categorized as bright/warm. You get tuning inserts that you can use to make them less bright and a little more warm. DCA stuff is not known for its dynamics so some people find them limp, or dead, or compressed sounding. I love my Noire but it took some time to land on the right inserts and I prefer them using them balanced. They sound warm, detailed, smooth, and effortless to me. DCA has some of the best ergonomic hands down, the pads are extremely comfortable as is the headband and they're ultra-light cans. However the pads do crease over time and they are glued on, so buyer beware, I'm not sure what's involved with replacing them or what impact the creasing has. Hope this helps! 😁
@@cumnmrmptaaa4234 Correct, the original Aeon has settled around 4-500. Drop just had the X on sale for 400 I think but they're not shipping till something like March I think. If you haven't heard the Aeon 2 or Noire then you're unlikely to miss any resolution you're not aware of lol. To me that makes the X or RT a solid buy if you want a comfortable and easy listening sonic experience. If you want engagement, punch, slam, snap, etc.. then they're not going to scratch that itch.
