I watched these guys all season. They are a force to be reckoned with!!!! The horn line is sheer perfection. From fmr trumpeter...missin' the good olé days!!!!
Only a few will get this reference. So is Harloff the Mike Portnoy of DCI where he wears a different jersey depending on what city he is at or he's just a Broncos' fan. BTW. Love what he is doing with Crown's hornline. Such a treat to see them live in person out here in the west coast.
I AM back EVERYDAY to watch this video...in fact, probably over a dozen times or more!! Every time I see and hear it, it literally brings chills down my spine. So beautiful and full of emotion. Those kids and staff are some of the luckiest people on the planet. I just hope they realize it....at least sometime in life...THANK YOU CROWN!!
Wouldn't it stand to reason that if corps were scored fairly and objectively, some corps could win certain subcaptions but not even be in the top 12 overall? Instead, we end up with caption rankings that are rarely ever more than 2 or 3 places removed from overall rankings. The competition aspect of the activity uses imprecise rubrics to compare apples with oranges. It's all subjective and bogus anyway. For those of us on the outside looking in, it's about new experiences and being entertained.
Definitely a tight, clean, mature sounding hornline....but it might be just me, but I don't really like all of them weird leg movements that are en vogue with drum corps these days.
Actually have had their percussion score above BD once and in one of the weeks in revue had the high percussion score for the week, along with the high brass score and guard score and overall score for the week. Thursday in MO should be a great show.
What are you reading? I would never say (and in fact never said) Crown has beaten everyone, because clearly, they have yet to all compete. Tonight has come and gone, and Crown emerged victorious. Cadets and BD are neck and neck with Crown in the drivers seat (for now). There is still a ton of season left, so lets not argue just to argue, yeah?
When you join corps like Crown, Cadets, and BD yes it's about winning and being the best. If people just wanted the "drum corps experience" they would march with their local corps instead of traveling to be in these top tier corps because after all it's about the experience and not winning right? Let's not be naive folks.
there is nothing more irritating than all of the silly looking leg movement. I know it's supposed to impress with the choreographed syncroniscity and I know it's been going on for years, but I feel that Crown is abusing the heck out of it the past few years. That hornline is chops though!
I don't believe dci adjudicators are going to let that happen. No matter how entertaining or difficult, Crown always has one or two categories where they are in fifth or sixth place. This ruins their overall score and BD win again.
@prairiesound2004 What do you mean about BD's bad show concept? Crown's show this year is very similar to BD the past 3-4 years. People are only hating on BD because they win. I'm not a fan of BD, but I respect their ability and prowess. You should too.
They have yet to compete against Crown or BD. How are you holding to your argument. They are undefeated, but not against the whole of their competition. Give it two days and we'll see who actually is on top.
Sorry if someone already answered your question, but Matt is just a Peyton Manning fan. When I marched in '09, he would wear Colts stuff since Manning was still playing for Indy.
Lol so much arguing. Why don't we just watch and listen to a group of people that have put so much work into their craft? We can let finals decide who the best 2013 corps is.
So then it's the judges fault for not rewarding creativity. Excellence is the the purpose of the competitive part. Otherwise it would just be exhibitions instead of scored competitions.
I think this is a winning hornline with winning music. If Carolina Crown keeps it up, they should be a in the driver's seat to take it. But they'll just have to keep Blue Devils and Cadets as a spec in their rear view mirror first.
my point wasn't to argue or predict - just to your point that Crown has beaten "everyone" (your word, not mine) this year in all the captions except percussion. Wanted to point out that they have yet to face Cadets (who I saw live Sun night) and the road might change a bit Thursday. Cadets have a great corps this year. Folks on here saying Cadets will be a "spec in their rear view mirror" (Crown's) is a bit much. Cadets are the only undefeated DCI corps this year - and have 10 vs. 0. Just a fyi.
As much as I enjoy Crown's hornline, for the most part, people need to realize that winning brass does not equate to winning. There needs to be a complete package, something that Crown has struggled with and I have to say this show is more of the same.
Doing push ups and curls are good but you mainly want to focus on building endurance not strength. Hold your baritone in front of you for as long as you can. Time it. See if you can hold it out longer and longer everyday. Make sure you are holding it in the correct position or else you will just build improper muscle memory.
First of all, grats to CC, well earned and about damn time. Now, my beef...trendy "moves": 6 of the top 18 corps used that some worn out leg maneuver where the legs go to parade rest, they turn one knee out, turn the other knee in, turn both knees outward. Annoyingly trendy and its been going on for a few seasons now. Surpassed only be the de rigeur snare move where they put one leg forward, hit the last 4 notes real hard, and drop their arms to their sides oh so dramatically.

Mostly percussion, but they also suffered in visual, possibly due to the several running sets messing with individual marching, and a little bit in color guard as well.
As much as I think the purple/red pants are a little much, does anyone else see the change to darker pants as the reason they've instantly became more competitive visually?
You just just have to get used to it and build the muscles used to hold the horn. You're always gonna get tired but as the season goes on you'll get less tired by the end of the show
No "probably" about it... I have been involved in the activity since the mid eighties and this is without a shadow of doubt, hands down the best hornline in the history of the activity. Carolina Crown 2013 is the Gold Standard.
As a Highschool Freshmen Baritone player any advice for me? We've learned about half of our show already and my arms are getting tired around the end of it.
