They're not in the same franchise, Gosho (the author) said they're completely different universes. Though he made so many crossovers that they feel like one universe by now. Magic Kaito is a separate story that was Gosho's first manga, before he started on Detective Conan. But he ended up abandoning Magic Kaito.

⁠@@oanayu wait dude why are we all thinking of different things rn??? magic kaito is from the 80s, followed by detective conan in the 90s. they ARE in the same franchise, set in the same universe. it would make no sense for gosho to add so many interactions between conan and KID in detective conan if they werent set in the same timeline. it would be abrupt and unnecessary if kid just kept making cameos in detective conan, or even if he only showed up in episode 76 and never again. gosho knew that when he added KID in. (also btw, magic kaito isn’t discontinued, it’s on hiatus. magic kaito is actually one of gosho’s favorite series that he made, it’s just on hiatus because he doesn’t have as much free time to add to it so often.

@@thehottestmanonearth123 Gosho said himself that they're separate universes tho. And the problem isn't that Kid is in DC, it's that Gosho involved him in the main plot, which sets a precedent. Now it's expected for him to be involved in the final battle cause he already helped during the Bell Tree Express arc and his dad was Vermouth's teacher. Gosho claims they're separate universes and that they have separate enemies, but these things make it look like he's either lying to us or he's writing himself into a corner. I sure hope he's lying, cause the alternative would mean lots of plot holes and unanswered questions. Tho my info about the first manga and the hiatus apparently was wrong, that's my bad.
