Startup and first impression of my free Renegade intake manifold. Idles smoother, better throttle response, pulls like crazy midrange and top end! Thanks to Tom at XFireperformance for the manifold!
Good job...everything I had heard was that the Renegade worked well at the high end but that low rpm performance suffered...must be the way you have everything else tuned in based on your other videos...TBI balance, fuel pressure and timing set properly. As someone else commented "....keep them coming"...I always learn something from your posts.
Thanks, glad the videos help. I do have the timing set at 12 degrees base, and I’m at 14psi, which made a huge difference even with the stock base, and then the ported base.
That's great I wish there was someone around central iowa that knew these crossfires, I have an 82 TA like yours which runs ok but I had taken my emissions stuff off since the pump was seized. After my initial start up it runs smooth but really seems to have unburnt fuel out the exhaust with black smoke and crap on the ground from the exhaust as if the choke isn't off. After driving it that gas smell and smoking stops and is fine until it sits all night and starts again the next morning. I'd love to start it up like yours with no gas smell/smoke though it idles fine and all seals/vacuum hoses,IACS,TPS,maps sensor have been replaced. Do ya have any suggestions...you can get on FB we've chatted before thx JOE
Have you checked your fuel pressure? I would start with verifying proper fuel pressure, balance your TBs, and verify proper operation of your O2 sensor. They’re simple systems with not many parts, but it only takes one to throw the whole operation off. One thing I would recommend though; is to either replace your air pump, or replace the cat with an aftermarket one that doesn’t need A.I.R. injection. These CFI cars seem to run super fat during cold starts and open loop operation. It doesn’t take much at all to kill a cat, which in turn will cause a “rich” smelling exhaust.
I would love to build a 302. With a decent cam and bored TBs, it would probably run VERY well. I even thought of doing a 327 with some decent heads down the road. Nice short stroke, high winding, and the low end of the CFI.
I am surprised your thermostat sealed, seeing your other video the machined part for the stat was just as off as mine and it took two gaskets and a tube of silicone to stop weeping lol. If you do sell it I hope someone who really needs it gets it. Otherwise glad someone is finally posting a good one. Edit: are you near Tom? Or is it a coincidence he was telling me about a thridgen that got one running the other day?
The thermostat sealed perfectly. No issues whatsoever. I didn’t even use any RTV on it. But yeah, Tom lives near me. I was at his place a little over a month ago. Super nice guy and nice 82 he has 👍
@@Joesmusclecargarage Tom is a great guy. And yes, his 82 is bad ass. I've been egging him on about getting the project rolling again but I understand the logistics behind it being almost impossible right now. He has helped me out alot through this too and actually got me the set of bored TBs I have now. I do wish I could run my renegade but I just can't figure out how to correct the runners. And I don't want to just give it to someone if it won't work you know? Hoping eventually I'll get my ported one back from my welder though. But it's been a while lol. Keep up the great content. 👍
Are you in AZ? I’m selling my Renegade, if you’re interested. It’s still on the car as we speak, and I can send you a video of it running. Absolutely zero issues with it.
@@Joesmusclecargarage Nah. Like I said get it to someone who really needs it. I'm all the way out in jersey anyway and I know shipping would be a bitch on that. I had mine on a flow bench and we're working on the porting anyway. It's coming along really well.
I have a renegade on my 84 corvette and it gained an easy 40 hp. Revs past the 4500 rpm limit on the old intake to 5500 rpm. Installed correctly it works great.
Good to hear some positive experience from others with this manifold. This little 305 was going mid-14s with a mildly ported base. The Renegade definitely woke it up quite a bit. I can’t complain, especially since the manifold was free! 👍
